Bob played with the spoon.
His older brother sipped his coffee.
“The divorce is a big change, it’s expected for Junior to act weird.”
Bob agonized on the insides. He couldn’t tell Steve the specifics. There was simply no way to tell someone that he had sex with his son without looking like a pervert.
“He is acting extremely weird. I worry about what he has... what he might do...”
Steve smiled and placed a hand on Bob’s shoulder.
“It’s going to be ok. When Martha left me, the twins went bananas, but we pulled through, and now they are cheerful and happy, probably better than ever.”
Bob stirred his coffee more. He wondered if there was something wrong with the men in his family. Both Sylvia and Martha were very independent women that valued their work over their family, and now both had left. But Martha was different, she left with her skiing instructor; but Sylvia...
“You shouldn't think about her anymore, she decided to leave you and Junior on your own.”
Bob silently thanked Steve from breaking his line of thought. He was right, all there was left for him was Junior.
“Trust me on this Bob, Junior needs you, and you need him. You have to strengthen your bond with him, and let him know that you love him unconditionally. You are the only parent he has left now, so no matter how weird he acts, support him. You will see that he will come around once he realizes that you will always be there for him.”
Bob just looked down and stirred his cold coffee a little more.
