The meerkats that lived in this house are the meerkats in my story "Circumcision Attempt".

In pic #1 a burnt spot can be seen on the dirt floor just to the left of the table. Occasionally, temperatures could get down during the night as low as into the 40s Fahrenheit (between 5 and 10 C) during the winter months. Rarely the overnight temperatures in the winter ever get colder.
When a night does get that cold, the bureau and table is moved into the kitchen, and the sofa moved toward the bedroom doorway.
A small fire is then made on the living room floor with the window curtains pulled aside to let the smoke out of the house.
The family then brings their blankets from the bedroom into the living room to sleep around the fire to keep warm.
There is no danger of smoke inhalation. The smoke rises up as it leaves the house while everyone is sleeping on the floor, below the level of the smoke.
Members of the family take their turn tending the fire so it is maintained throughout the night.
That is the heating system to heat the house on a cold night

This was all done in HO scale...very tiny.

Love the details and creativity, especially in a world where everyone usually does that with CG.
