markings like those are a great way to make a char unique and recognizable.
One of the reasons i'm still working on the ideas for my char is excact these problem ^^
(i was thinking about a golden Tiger too ;) Now i've an example how they could look like)

Ah yea I guess that's true, making a character is hard for me since I'm not good at unique ideas, I like the plain stuff maybe. Except for the chimera thing but it was pretty inspired by something else. XD

The golden tigers have a very pretty colour palette and interesting stripes. I didn't know about them before this commission, hehe.~
