The Day it was Link's Turn to Cook.

One day, in the kingdom of Hyrule, King Harkinian (But you can simply call him the king) and his friends and family gathered around a large table at dinner time. Well, everyone but Link, who was in the kitchen at the time. Why was Link in the kitchen? Well, Listen up, and you will see.

About 3 days ago, while the royal chef was cooking, he accidentally slipped in wet spaghetti and broke his PINGAS. The pain was so mighty that he was unable to cook at all until his PINGAS healed in a few weeks. Until then, the king decided that, rather than going to McDonalds until chef's return, that they would take turns being the cook for a day. On the first day, the king went first. Then his daughter Zelda the next day. They were both fine cooks. But now, Link wanted a turn to be a cook. Since the king knew he would never shut up and never stop whining about it, they decided to let him try cooking. They really, REALLY didn't trust Link to cook them food. Especially after that incident at Morshu's place a month back, when he blew up Morshu's shop after carelessly playing with some bombs. If you can't trust Link to be careful with explosives, how can one trust him to cook?

As the king, his daughter Zelda, Morshu, Ganon, Gwonam, and some guy with a funny wig all sat at the table, they all felt little uneasy about what Link might be up to in the kitchen. "Hmmm, I wonder what Link is making for dinner?" thought the king out loud.

"I don't know. Whatever it is, I just hope it isn't something spicy." Zelda replied, a little worried about Link.

"Do not worry, Zelda," Gwonam said to Zelda, taking out a dusty old scroll, "as it is written, Link will make the greatest spaghetti in all of Koradai!"

"What makes you think he is making spaghetti?" asked Zelda.

"Hey, don't ask me. I only read scrolls, I don't make em." Gwonam responded before tossing the scroll over his shoulder and into a trash bin.

"MMMMMMM!" hummed Morshu randomly.

Meanwhile, in the kitchen, Link was in front of a hot stove boiling water for, you guessed it, spaghetti. Of course, being Link, he quickly got bored. "Gee, it sure is boring around here," said Link as he stretched, "I wonder how long it takes to simply boil water?" After waiting a very short time, he left the pot alone and started wandering around the kitchen. "Now that I think of it, plain spaghetti is boring. Maybe I could find something around here to make it more interesting." After a short while, he soon came across a pantry full of ingredients to cook food with, and a smile soon formed on his face. He took a quick look around and saw all kinds of stuff to cook with, but most of it didn't interest him. "Hmm, spice... Boring. Salt... Boring. Pepper... Really boring... Chocolate starfish? That sounds interesting!" Link said, swiping it out of the pantry and taking a good look at the can. But as soon as he took it out of the pantry, he heard a bubbling sound coming from where the oven was. "Uh-oh! I forgot about the water! I guess I better get going." and Link quickly returned to the oven to see the water boiling at last. Link then looked at the water, and then the can, and started to get curious. "I wonder what this will do?" he thought to himself, quickly grabbing a can opener and opening the can of chocolate starfish. Inside the can was full of yucky looking crap, but it smelled like chocolate. So he then dumped the weird glop into the pot and watched as the water began to turn brown and other weird stuff. "Hey, that looked cool! I guess I better toss in the spaghetti now and go make some sauce while it boils." he said to himself, dumping a large amount of uncooked spaghetti into the pot before heading off to mash some tomatoes.

Meanwhile, back in the dining room, Morshu was humming songs to keep everyone entertained while the king sat at the table bored out of his mind. He was hungry, and when the king is hungry, the king is grumpy. So to deal with his boredom, he called out his slave, who goes by the name Duke Onkled, to entertain him.

"Duke Onkled, I want you to wash all the floors in Hyrule for me today." commanded the king.

"But, your omnipotence! I did that yesterday! When will I have that mercy you promised me?" Groaned Duke Onkled as he fell to his knees and begged once again for mercy.

"Mercy? Ha! Go wash the floors, or else you will DIE." said the king in a very evil tone, which was common for him. Not wanting to die, the duke did as he was told, and began to wash the floors again.

Back in the kitchen, Link hardly began to make sauce, and already he was bored out of his little mind. "Gee, tomatoes are such a boring fruit. I want to try something different for my spaghetti." he said as he headed off to the same pantry as before, looking for something that would be more interesting to cook with than boring tomatoes. A quick glace was all it took this time, for he quickly found two things that interested him: pickles and ham. Since he couldn't decide on what to pick, he simply took both the jar and packet back to where he was going to mash tomatoes and started smashing them up with a rusty hammer instead, later putting the mushed meat and fruit into a bowl filled with lamp oil and mixed it up, making a very odd smelling glop when he was done stirring. "There, that's good enough. By now, that spaghetti should be ready for the final touches." Link said eagerly, taking a dirty strainer out from under the sink.

Back in the dining room a short while later, Link came out of the kitchen and headed to the table to let everyone know his meal was done, and then he went back to the kitchen to get it. Now everyone was nervous. Link smelled of something odd for some reason, and his hands were really dirty. When Link returned, he placed several plates of brown spaghetti with a rather chunky sauce in front of them. As link went to his spot at the table to eat, everyone stared at their plates in awe. Never before had they ever seen anything like it! After a few more seconds, everyone's eyes turned to Gwonam. Since he was the one who read that scroll about Link's food being yummy, they were hoping he would take the first bite. Even Link stared at him, but with a smile, eagerly awaiting his response to his so-called masterpiece. Gwonam made a quick glance at everyone at the table, then reached into his pocket and pulled out another scroll. "As it is written," he said in a somewhat grumpy tone, "I hate you guys a lot right now..." And so, after summoning enough courage (with a little help from the triforce of courage), he grabbed his fork and got himself a forkful of spaghetti, slowly raising it to his mouth and closing his eyes shut, hoping it won't taste as bad as it looks and smells. Closer and closer it got, and as it got closer, the eyes of everyone but Link (who was simply getting more excited about the whole thing) got wider and wider, until FINALLY, he put it in his mouth. Gwonam, at first, looked like he was going to hurl at first, but as he chewed, his frown soon turned into a smile.  He opened his eyes, and swallowed as a tear of joy rolled down his cheek. "This... This..." he said as he smiled a bright and joyful smile with a twinkle in his eye, "is the most BEAUTIFUL spaghetti in not just all of Koradai, but of all the world! Look! The birds are singing, and peace and love is spreading all over the land of Hyrule. Isn't it beautiful?"

His reaction to the food was most surprising, encouraging the others to try the food. Surprisingly enough, their reactions were very similar to Gwonam's:

The king and his daughter started to laugh happily together in joy after a bite of Link's spaghetti.

Morshu let out a very long, pleased humming sound after having his first taste, and then suddenly had an urge to give Link credit.

The man with the funny wig at first wanted to make it illegal to allow Link to cook, but after trying his food for the first time, he quickly changed his mind.

Even Ganon was crazy about the food Link made with his loving hands, and offered to make his face the greatest face in Koradai. Of course, Link refused, saying it would be too boring to him.

After everyone quickly gobbled up Link's spaghetti, the King couldn't help but exclaim "This is the best spaghetti of all time!" and everyone cheered. Then suddenly, everyone went quiet after hearing a window shatter, and were surprised to suddenly see Luigi in the dining room. "Did someone say spaghetti?" he asked.

After that, the king decided to have Link as his own personal chef for when the kingdom of Hyrule was not in danger, which Link was happy to do after finding out how much fun cooking is. Never again would Link ever be bored... Well, almost.

                                                                     THE END

Ah yes, how much I enjoyed writing this story so long ago...

This story was first posted on Deviant Art a long time ago. Can't really recall when, but it has been a long time. This was one of my better stories back in the day, when I improved in my writing skills after that one review that really changed the way I write stories today.

The idea for this story came to me one day while I was eating at Pizzaboy, I think. I swear, when I came up with it, I just HAD to write it ASAP. It was too good an idea (at least to me, anyways) to ignore. So, as soon as I had the time, I plopped down in front of my computer and began to write. This story was written in ONE NIGHT, the quickest story I ever wrote, if I am correct.

On DA, it got pretty good reviews, and a lot of people liked it, even my brother. Oh, how he laughed...

Amazing how a story inspired by youtube poops could be so popular. I only hope you enjoy it as much as I had enjoyed writing it so long ago.
