First off, watch this, and look at what a good job Nori did!!! Looks just like one of the countdown markers! Fffff- perfect, I love it so much~
But yeah, I think its about time this got attention again. So I wanted to upload it to my gallery.
It's just such a great piece of fan art, and really one of my favorites. While I wasn't born in the drive-in era, I sure get a kick out of seeing this stuff in movies. It such an interesting community and vibe! And the vintage ads themselves have a surreal quality that appeals to me for reasons I don't fully understand myself. Maybe it's the drive-in itself. I'm fascinated with the idea group hangout places like that. Diners, malls, arcades, water parks, hell, even a big ass grocery store if that's where you and your friends hang out after school. A home away from home. It's a theme I want to utilize and explore more as I create more in depth universes for my characters. And this picture is exemplary of an element within that concept.
I've always kind of wanted to have a miniature drive in theater of my own. I eventually hope to have a good sized garage, which will have plenty of room to attach a screen, and those radio speaker things aren't hard to come by to broadcast sound.
Big group hangout places like that have always been interesting, what little of them I've seen. Too much of a loner by nature to really just "hang out" anywhere, but I've always had a fondness for diners, arcades, and waterparks.

That sounds pretty awesome. I googled it to see such a garage myself. Only found a few. And...a lot of super rich people's poolside theaters. o_O
But yeah! Something about it is very positive and compelling. I guess that's why there are so many coming of age movies about saving that kind of place.

Yeah, despite the relative affordability of decent projectors and stuff, it seems like only really rich people think to do fun stuff like that. I plan to have a large garage with an attached house, and just kind of build a bunch of folding rooms into the garage as a multipurpose room, rather than having bazillion dollar private theaters with fancy sound systems and whatnot like fancy people do.
