Nyota walks through the apple orchard of her adopted family's farm. She smiles hearing them laughing and having a great time, but she wanted to be alone this day. It had been 10 years since she lost her parents to the rouge dragon who wanted her father, the King of Dragons, dead. She remembers that day all too well.
Her mother, a rouge Alicorn, was with her int he garden when the horrid creature attacked. He aimed at her and her mother to draw her father out. Sadly it worked, in a bloody fight she lost her father. Her mother told her to run to the Ever-free forest and not to look back as she fought the monster, but in mere minutes before she reached the trees, she looked back to see her mother killed. The scared hybrid alicorn foal ran for her life. Her small body helping her escapes the jaws of death. She runs faster and farther out of her fathers kingdom. Her legs kept going, her tears blurred her vision as she cries out for help. Little did she know she was headed to a settlement of ponies. She runs out of the trees as the dragon chases her, she has now entered a apple orchard. The dragon hits her sending her flying and slamming into a tree.
She tried to get up, but she was too hurt the dragon moving closer and closer. He was about to kill her when a blur of red rushes past the dragons legs and then a powerful kick makes the monster scream/roar in pain. A HUGE earth pony had just broken the mighty beasts leg. He grabs the injured foal by the scruff of her neck and bolted to the red barn. The dragon chases then until it gets slammed into by another big dragon. This one was purple with green eyes and back scales. There were 6 ponies with him as the fought the dragon.
The foal was now in a cellar curled up against the chest of the big red stallion. he tenderly cleans her and then holds her close. He hummed softly calming the poor lil one down, soon it was quiet outside. The large stallion leads her out, she stayed hidden under him. there were 4 alicorns from what she could see. One was purple, one was pink, one was white, but the last one was a dark nightshade blue. She stared at that one for a while, her mane sparkled and looked like it had stares in it. then there came a gruff but kind voice "Big mac, is the lil foal ok?" the stallion she hid under spoke "Yeup, just a few cuts and a hurt wing".
She whimpered as the other ponies came closer. Big Mac moved and revealed what she really was. most of the citizens of the town back away quickly, pure fear and in some anger in their eyes. She whimpered feeling vulnerable. The purple alicorn walks close and examines her closely, she trusted the ones who looked like her mother. She was taken care of as she told the princesses what had happened to her family. the one called Luna looked sad as the lil one explained her situation, she told them her name was Nyota it meant Star in the dragons of Africa's language. She was allowed to stay with the large red stallion until her fate was decided.
Soon months pass and there was good news for the dragon/alicorn hybrid. She learned that she was being adopted by the ponies called "The Apple Family", and the large make dragon adopted her too, his name was Spike. She learned from school in the town called Ponyville, but she was picked on and one day was beaten badly by a group of foals lead by one called "Diamond Tiara". Her adopted sister AppleBloom came to her rescue with Big Mac in tow. She never went back to the school, when Luna heard of that she came and offered to be Nyota's mentor just as Celestia was to Twilight.
Luna taught Nyota everything she knew, the hybrid took to magic like a fish to water. She even learned to fly and she was SUPER fast thanks to her dragon wings. Rainbow Dash and Scootaloo taught her about flying and she has a blast with them. She learned from all of the mane six. She loved them all, but not as much as she loved Luna. Luna eventually adopted little Nyota as her own child. She was happy to visit her new lil one whenever she could. She loved her daughter very much. Even if the visit is short it is precious to them both.
One day she saw Diamond Tiara and her gang attacking the CMC. Anger filled her up and she charged the group. She fought against some strong male friends of DT but they couldn't stop her fiery spirit from protecting her family. Soon they were all on the ground in a lil pain. She pants and glares at DT, "I will fight for my family, even you cant stop the fire in my heart". Suddenly she felt a warmth spread through her, and there appearing in a ball of blue flame was her cutie mark. It was a heart made of blue fire. She was so happy. DT and her friends got in major trouble.
Now its been several years, every year she misses her parents more and more. This night of Herths Warming Eve she longed to see the stars, but the clouds hid them from her view. It was to snow soon, she saw 3 stars that she felt to be her parents. So she was sad she wouldn't get to see them this night.
Luna lands near her lil star and smiles "Happy Hearths Warming Eve Nyota". The Filly rushes over and hugs her mother of the night. "Oh Mama Luna, its so good to see you!" Luna smiles and then holds out a basket dinner "Lets go enjoy ourselves, we have all this night together my daughter". Nyota prances around happily, she never had a WHOLE night with Luna before. Soon the two settle on a red blanket and eat the yummy food Luna brought.
Nyota sighs softly and this made the Princess of the Night look at her little Star "What is troubling you my sweet one?" Nyota looks to her "I just..i.." She uses her magic to open her locket showing the picture of her parents "I miss them Mama Luna, I sometimes wish they were here to meet you." A tear drops down her cheek "I cant even see their stars tonight cause of the clouds". Luna gently touches her hoof to her lil ones cheek making the tear go away "You want to see the stars?"
Nyota nods then was gently tackled by Luna's wing. She giggles at her Mama, then she saw Luna's mane grow to immense size and chance color. She looked at is as it surrounded them and then she saw what the clouds and distance kept her form seeing. Her here now saw the hidden beauty of her adopted mother's night. the endless stars and planets and galaxies. She gazes in amazement laying on her back covered by Luna's wing. She was amazed "Mama, its so beautiful!" Luna smiles and kisses her daughters cheek "This is my gift to you my sweet Star. Happy Hearths Warming Eve". All night the two gaze at the events of the galaxies and universes through Luna's mane. this was the BEST Hearths Warming Eve in Nyota's, and even Luna's, life.
