"Are your lights on?"
"Are they on? Uh, yeah.. they are the 'don't crash into me I am stuck' lights." I sighed. Second time this week that my truck has given me issues, maybe this time my boss will think in giving me a new one!
Chewing and mumbles could be heard on the other side of the phone, "Okay, I will send one of our drivers out there to give you a hand. The tow-truck will be used and when you get back.. we will need to have a chat." Great.
About an hour or so after the phone call with my boss, a tow truck did pull up. I jumped out of my truck, as it was not the greatest idea to stand out in the open.. in the dark, next to the truck. My ears perked when I heard the voice.
"So, I heard you were 'stuck'.. not dead in the middle of the road." the Doe just grinned at me.
"Dead and stuck can be the same thing." I replied.
She looked to me, almost annoyed.. I think. "Stuck, is more-so.. against a railing, this.." She points to my truck. "Is just a big hunk of metal dead, in the middle of the road. You are lucky tonight is slow, or else there would be a traffic jam in behind you."
I rolled my eyes, what does she know.
Just after her arrival, my phone rang again.. and sure enough, it was the boss asking if Kimi had gotten there yet. I told him yes. As we spoke, my ears were picking up random sounds. I moved to the front of my truck again and noticed her head, and half of her body inside of the hood. Does she think she can fix the thing or something? I shrugged it off and got back to my conversation with Zack.
"Yes, I need a new one. This one is old, like.. Charlie old." Charlie was one of our older trucks, lasted a good thirty years before finally breaking down, this one was getting close in age.. but still a good truck.
"Well, when Kimi gets you back here we can talk about it more. There are a few other rigs I need to replace as well, but the older ones have been working pretty well, so very few of them will be replaced before the new year." Zack gave some final good thoughts on the trucks before hanging up. Almost as soon as I hung up, my rig sang with the wonderful sound of being on again.
Kimi walked over, paws all dirty. "There you go, it should get you back to the garage before it dies out again. I will drive behind you in case you die again." She gave a wink before heading back to the tow. I just stood there.

The next morning when I drove into work, Zack and Kimi were standing just outside of the garage where we keep all the rigs. Now, Kimi caught my eye almost instantly, I had never seen a doe like her before. But it's not like I didn't pay attention to her last night, it was just harder to see her. She looked to be in her twenties, and she was still spotted.. unlike most of the deer I knew. Her eyes were this odd, blue and purple.. her ears being pierced like most doe, or in general.. girls, I knew. She was just.. wow.
Kimi waves a paw in front of my face. "Hellooo in there" She smiled wide. "We have a present for you. I told Zack all what was wrong with Big Red, and we agreed that you needed a new rig."
A new rig. Yes!
All three of us walked into the garage, I took a look around and noticed a black, white and purple truck. Inside there was a board, soon ot be a plate with 'Kimi' on it. Not too bad for her first truck, though it looked more like the trucks that European drivers would drive. Next to that, was a bright yellow truck, that one belonged to Zack, and next to his.. my brand new black one.
"It's not too bad really, I looked at it last night when it came in, everything seems top shape. I actually hope to replace my own with one.. maybe purple." Kimi was talking, and I now just noticed. Then, a question popped into my head..
"Why do you have a Euro style truck, uh.. Kimi?" I bit my lip.
She turned to me more. "My first job was over in Poland, where my father moved us just before I hit twenty. It was my frist job and I really liked it. I have been driving seven years, but never one of the big ones here in Canada, so.. I asked if I could bring Beaut over with me.. and my boss there and Zack here agreed. I know it looks off being here, but the steering is on the same side and everything. Maybe one day I will get a new truck like yours and fit in better?" She looked almost confused when she said that.. but in a cute 'I am lost' kind of way.
