It's the anniversary of John Lennon being shot and killed 34 years ago. My GOD, has it been that long?

Oh ok.

I was just making sure I was thinking of the right person. I never listen to them. Not my thing.

I was just about to ask what this all is about. I've listened to the music. Sigh.

I think it's better to focus on John's life and works, not his passing.

I especially like Elton John's tribute to John Lennon ("Empty Garden"). It sums it up pretty well.

I remember the event quite distinctly.

I lit a candle in the window as did many.

It had been cold, 24℉ high, 10℉ low.

It seemed like the world would freeze that night. . . .

Never forgot that feeling......

Oh *GOD* that is the absolute WORST response!
Don't end your live out of grief, that just dumps the grief on your friends and loved ones, with interest.
LIVE, and make your life worthy of the man we all respect, who was taken from us way too soon.

Yeah ... that day the world lost a great acivist for peace an egality ... what a lost and make me wonder what he would have done if this didn't happen

sillylilfoxcub

@ MichaelJBear

John Lennon, Lenny Bruce, Bill Hicks, George Carlin... all the good ones with the best ideas... gone. I guess that's not entirely true, we still have some left. New ones attempt to fill the void, but they're not exactly the same. Patton Oswalt and Tim Minchin are alright though. Louis C.K. is alright though.

There are people all over the world who are just as wonderful. I don't want to detract from what this day means, I just don't think it's fair to dismiss the others, and the living.

*Snug* I didn't mean it in such a way that you would have to come up with a long list of those that you enjoy so much. But thanks. You didn't waste your time, I'll check'em out. Atheist that I am, I can appreciate.

But...but....all the things John sings after "Imagine there's no..." are things he thinks the world would be better off without!

@ DirtyGoat

Ok, but in this case, is the opposite effect, something that you should not allow to happen.

I knew John when he was being a father to Sean, and Sean was in my school for a short while (a stupid ass prerequisite in the NYC School System). Of all the things he had said the one thing that is forever in my mind and I try to pass on to my students:

"	John Lennon wrote:
Everyone born in this world has the potential to be the next Jesus Christ or the next Adolph Hitler. Anyone can be the best or the worst human society has to offer!

@ ElfenSciuridae

I know the horrors of war, I know what is to be under a bombing, I know what is to run in the dark with bullets buzzing around you, I know what is to be starving, I know what is to live in poverty.
So, please excuse me if I always have the urge to laugh when somebody talk me about a "big problem" when their game consoles broke or their smartphones doesn't work.

ElfenSciuridae

And I'll laugh with you Krezz. I've been through another and yet similar road in hell too. And I'll drink to that laughter too. Scotch, Rum, Coca Cola? I'll take an RC (Royal Crown)! Can't drink alcohol while on the blood thinners... damn.
