No Cartoon Network, just.... no....

Parents, I would NEVER let my children watch Cartoon Network, EVER! The shows on Cartoon Network have no moral value, are brain-numbingly stupid and are turning kids into retards. If you don't believe me? Then sit down and watch it for yourself. All the shows are full of sexual references, up to and including characters drawn to look phallic (Prince.... something... the wizard... in Adventure Time).

Discovery Family = Good. Cartoon Network = Bad.

It depends on the shows, and on the person's opinion. Good, family-friendly shows have been replaced by shitty shows, in my opinion.

Tell me, what were some of the shows you watched when they were still on?
princessfirefly

Adventure Time, which is one of the lesser evils with only occasional offenses.
Clarence
Uncle Grandpa
Regular Show
Teen Titans Go! (actually was pretty good. like the more serious series better)

Some of this stuff is actually watchable, what isn't hopelessly retarded, but even then would be better targeted for adults rather than children. Most of it though is just sickeningly and hopelessly stupid on top of being horrible morals.

It's a miracle someone with so few braincells can come up with a retort that is both eloquent and really gets to the heart of the matter. Seriously, do you happen to write books? I would love to get a couple off of the discard pile to use for toiletpaper or kindling.

It was not on CN, but the show I watched most as a child that helped prepare me for adulthood was Rockos modern life. A show that is by all accounts random grossout humor and raw chaos made by people who didn't know the 'rules of making a cartoon on a network that was getting its start by pushing the envelope.

By all accounts the show was not substantive, yet to watch it as an adult you find that it was acutally a very stark and humorous take on how life really does work for 20 somethings of almost any age. It arguably lacks morals, and yet the lessons you get from the show served far more than the fluff that I got from carebears or what little science was in Beekmans world.

You want your kids to be smart and well adjusted? Show them that, Ponies, Good eats, Mythbusters, and frankly any other cartoons or shows you would enjoy.

Hell my mom practically raised me on sitcoms she and I would watch together, and I would argue that breaking down the basic character traits and tropes within those helped make me better at character creation and writing, almost as much as my rabid tabletop gaming.

My point, in the end, is that you can't know when, where, and how something will be a positive influence on your children. All you can do is use your best judgement, understand your kid is different from every other kid, and try to personally be the best influence you can.

You make a great point! Most parents DON'T monitor what their kids watch. just sit them in front of a TV and shut them up. Most important thing is to WATCH what your children watch! KNOW what crap is being fed into their heads!

Actually my mom was acutely aware of what I watched, and often watched it with me. To this day she can quote half the cartoons I used to watch and buys dvds or saves old vhs tapes for my little brothers. If there was a show she really did not like, she wouldn't put it on, but by that same point she watched almost every show I did and those she did not share with me frequently she at least got an idea of.

She got me "wholesome" things too. Things like mcgee and me tapes that I was allowed to watch on sabbath (no tv on saturday otherwise) but she also trusted me for the most part to pick what I did as I got older even if she did not agree with it because she knew I had to make some of these decisions and she was keenly aware of my maturity level even at a young age

My mother was an excellent mom. She worked hard to provide for us, drove hours every week to make sure I could spend time with my dad and his side of the family. She raised me tp be pilite, considerate, and respectful of others, and she let me figure out my own interests and skills... And I was honesrly the most well behaved kid around.

Fact is, you can be aware of what your kids watch, but you never know what will have value in their lives or what will have a positive impact. If you are too strict or focused on what is traditionally "good for kids its no better than ignoring it$ parenting is about balance and knowing when to trust your kids or let them pick a path is just as important as applying restrictions.

As for rocko, how many other shows teach kids that life can indeed be hard, scary and confusing in a way that not only prepares them but softens the blow. Personally I hate adventure time. It seems like a bad dnd game played by stoners, but you never know when your specific child could glean something valuable from a show like that, an ah hah moment unavalible elsewhere

I am, but I just lost one of the closest people I have ever had and honestly I think/seriously hope when mom goes that is what does me in. Odd hope I know, but that's all wrapped up in my own psychological issues. For now I just do what I can

Jepp, might come as a surprise to you but I have no problem with showing children sexual content. Cause sex is nothing to be ashamed of or something that they need to be shielded from. Sex is a wonderful thing and the sooner we teach and educate or children that sex and sexual expression is nothing evil or sinful or horrible but something perfectly normal, good and healthy, the better we will be off as a society and maybe we even might not have so many people growing up to become sexual neurotics. They way we handle sex nowadays is rather psychopathic... and as for your original point. Cartoons have always had sexual humor. Does Bugs Bunny in drag or the famous "finger Prince" joke from Animaniacs ring a bell? That was a looongt time ago before CN even existed.

I have to agree with Firefly. You walked right into that one! From your post any sane, rational person would assume that you are a total moron and quickly dismiss anything you had to say as the sick opinion of damn child molester.
Furthermore Fire simply stated her opinion of what she saw after giving the shows a fair chance and followed up with a warning to parents to be aware of what their children are watching, which is sound, rational advice. If a parent takes the time to check out the shows and has no objections to their content then by all means their children's should be allowed to watch it. Anybody who has a problem with the idea of parents actually taking the time to be parents are themselves morons!
I honestly have to laugh when I read down through here and see how childish some if these posts are just because someone, a pink pony of all things dared to speak ill of their cartoons! Have a little common sense here, people! We all have our thing and favorite cartoons. It's one if the defining traits of being a furry, but just because we watch kid cartoons doesn't mean that we have to act like children when someone has a difference of opinion about them!g
I can see where most of this originates from anyway. We as a fandom have been beat down by "traditional values" and "regular society" for so long that anytime someone shows a hint of morality we roll our eyes and say, "oh gawd, not one of THOSE" and get defensive, or maybe counter-offensive. Rest assured that I'm as big a perv, if not bigger than any if you, but even then I have sense enough to know that porn is not for children!
One of the most laughable responses to this post was, "you posted a pony. You automatically fail!" Wow, really? The most inclusive fandom in the world can't accept talking ponies? Every other trend, like Pokemon is perfectly fine, but not ponies? That's lame! Worse yet it looks like after being beat-down by the rest of the world and looked down upon as the furry community is it looks like we'd be more tolerant of a newly emerging fandom that share many of our same interests! What's the problem with Bronies? Is it that the majority of them aren't into porn? If we can't yiff it then we don't want it?
Firefly, kudos to you for sticking to your guns! Your conviction and determination help keep me strong in my darkest hours, and I love and appreciate you for it! You go, girl!

you sound like a mixture of Lydia Karaoke and Ned Flanders.

I like the list of shows you put in an earlier post:  Adventure Time, Clarence, Uncle Grandpa, Teen Titans Go, Regular Show.  let's be honest, all of the shows you mentioned suck.  let's be honest, cartoons have stopped being cartoons since the 1990's.  cartoons were supposed to be funny and done simply to keep from burning out on the trials of real life.  sadly, real life is PG rated, like most of these shows are,   but come on, is Steven Universe that bad?, what about Gumball?, the Lego cartoons can't be that bad, what's so bad about Pokémon? does Tenkai Knights suck, too?  Sonic Boom is funny to me (though the Rise of Lyric game is garbage).

keep in mind one thing when you rant about this sort of thing, almost everything has some kind of innuendo in it, including DisneyXD, it's almost everywhere.  another thing that should be noted is not every cartoon should have a moral value to it.  sure cartoons are fully of idiots, but if it's funny, that's the reason why it gets watched.  cartoons were originally made to make you laugh, or present you with a light amount of content you'll probably face in reality as you grow up.  if you were born anywhere between the early 80s and mid 90s, you really got the good amount of cartoons.  the last bit I'll mention are the three things that have changed cartoons forever:

Censors: certain things that the 90s toons had are not acceptable with the censors today, but in a horrible attempt to balance this, they give you innuendo-ridden content, or it's censored to where it makes no sense at all.  I miss seeing gunpoint segments that aren't censored to be pointing fingers and hostages held at knife point where the knife blade isn't invisible.
Gen: cartoons have gens that are "sub-ratings". violence isn't a rating, fighting isn't a rating, dialogue isn't a rating  this goes back to Censors being pussies now.  because of this gen thing, what we had in the Super Mario Bros cartoons, or Animated Series Batman makes the censors lose it now
Bad Writing: the previous two can contribute to this last one, and even when they don't, 90% of cartoons just have bad writers.  Breadwinners on Nicktoons is horribly written and Twerking should never be influenced upon kids, and I think Clarence is a retarded kid, but trust me, bad writing shows in a cartoon.

I suggest (if you aren't watching it already) the Qubo channel, you would like their lineup.

Everyone is missing the point of this picture. It's suppose to be cute and absurd that a pink pony calls a ban on a Cartoon Network. If anyone eke wants to be offended by this then I must refer you to my next post, comic - CN ban response
