Eve met another boy, a slave like herself, but they both served, by both of their accounts, nice masters. His name Cedric, her's Eve, they occasionally talked, but it was always during errands, not giving them enough to time to truely get to know each other.
Eve took a liking to him; Cedric was very nice to her, not treating her poorly like most boys did. He was about 15 years old, almost considered an adult in their world. Her liking turned into love, or at least she felt that way, the more they met.
One evening, Eve's Master was drunk and asleep. Eve had been reading a book of Master's, a basic book of magic on fire magics. She was adept enough to light cooking fires without needing a match, but the book didn't go much beyond the basics. Eve wanted to throw fireballs and become a battle-mage one day! Or at least she dreamed of it...
That evening Cedric passed by her house and just peeked in a bit, and met Eve's eyes as she prepared to close the curtains. She came outside and talked for a bit, keeping their voices down just in case it might wake her Master. Her demonstration of her fire magic inspired Cedric! He asked where she learned of such things, and she noted the book.
He asked if he might borrow the book, but Eve suddenly felt as if eyes of her Master were upon her... she clutched the book and stepped back towards the door. Cedric saw her frightened, and wished her a good night and went along his way, not meaning to scare her.

Circumstances aligned, and Eve once again met with Cedric. Master was away, so Eve invited him inside and presented the book. His eyes lit up! He eagerly took the book and felt powerful just holding it. His master had plently of lessons for him to learn the phyiscal forms of fighting, but the mind of magic had been lost to him...
