This is an art project I've wanted to do for a long time, but put off for reasons I'm not really sure. I think it's easy to say that most of us grew up with a love for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and I was no exception. Even as an adult now, I still have a love for them, but the sad truth is time really hasn't always been kind to the turtles.
As I grow older and so do my interests I grow tired of the cheesy, squeaky clean antics of the 90's cartoon and long for a more in depth look at the series. Before anyone says anything about reading the comic, I have and I like it... but there is always something missing for me.
One issue that's always bothered me is the fact that the turtles do not wear clothes. This would be a fact that I wouldn't think twice on if this was true of all the animal characters in the series, but it's not! In bot cartoon and comic all the other mutants work clothes while the turtles didn't, and don't give me that "well they have shells bullshit" it feels awkward to be so I wanted to change it!
Another issue I have is that for creatures raised in an Asian culture, they're very... NOT Asian. So with that in mind I put them together and made my own style for the turtles.
First up is Donatello. If in Asian culture I see Don with the ideals and fighting style of a Shaolin Monk. Calm, religious and a pacifist who only fights if it is needed, and he can kick ass when that time comes. Unfortunately this picture I feel came off as rather dull, which is a shame as Donnie's one of my favorites... but he's kind of dull in all seriousness, so I guess it's okay. Just not much to work off of with my idea.
