I spent all day trying various ways of getting a particle hair simulation to work well AND render in a reasonable amount of time. After two or three (or four) false starts, I finally landed on something that seems pretty OK. It is still a tremendous annoyance to manage, but it looks pretty good for now. It's a bit shorter, but also feels a little more modern.
Anyway, I did some quick flirty animation stuff to make her hair move (and to give me an excuse to have her blink all seductive-like), and here it is. We're back to the white cube room for render-time speed since this is just a test, and I rendered much smaller than the fancy turnaround animation. Render time was around an hour and a half.
I also slowed playback speed to 24fps from NTSC when I encoded from the raw frames to make it last a little longer, since it's only a 2s animation @ NTSC.
Included are some larger-res versions of some of the more compelling frames. I'm quite pleased with them, really.
Uncertain if this hair will stay, but it seems fairly stable for now. We'll see.
