Skullkid Custom
Custom pony figurine of the character Skullkid as seen in the Nintendo 64 video game The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask.
This is a Christmas gift.
Pony base is a generation 3 baby pony. Full body repaint job in layered brown acrylics, with several base layers of beige with various brown pigments textured over top. Face paint layered in various textures to resemble Skullkid’s face and add depth.
Tail is dollyhair’s nylon mlp hair in the color garnet jewel.
Outfit: started off with the boots. They are red leather with orange hemp detail.
Tunic is a pale coral red material with a strip of red leather eyelets hemmed with red maxi piping, with metal silver hoops strung on orange hemp cording.
Under the tunic, on the front legs and around the neck is dyed yellow feathers.
Hat is red leather detailed with red feathers. A string of silver metal hoops on orange hemp cording strung around, Skullkid’s fairies adorn his outfit.
Fairies are cotton balls painted with acrylic paint, wings are clear plastic from pony toy packaging painted in acrylic paints.
Mask is removal, and crafted from leather. Entirely hand-painted in acrylic paints, the eyes are painted metal rhinestones, entire thing sealed with mod podge.
The “thorns” of the mask are metal cones painted with acrylic paints, pinned into the leather with straight pins, a thick layer of tacky glue applied to the back of the mask to keep the pins permanently in place.
The moon is crafted from an art sponge. I soaked the sponge fully submerged in a container of watered-down mod podge for several hours. I then let the soaked moon sponge dry out completely for a few days, until the sponge was nice and hardened yet still workable.
I then painted the entire hardened sponge with various pigments of gray, black and brown acrylic paints, carved holes in the sponge for the mouth and eyes.
Mouth was constructed first, the gum lines are pink bias tape with white pearl rhinestones glued to them for the teeth. Mouth lined with black hemp cording.
Eyes are glass stone orbs that are often used to decorate the bottoms of fish aquariums. I painted the flat backs of the stones with thickly layered neon yellow acrylic paint. Did a thin layer of red acrylic paint along the edges, then layered grays and black for the pupil centers.
Nose is constructed from leather, shaped it accordingly and hand-sewed the points to shape it. It is glued to the face via Tacky glue and painted in gray and metallic acrylic paints.
There is a metal hoop fastened to the top of the moon for the magnet in the bottom of Skullkid pony’s front hoof to connect to and keep Skullkid pony in place on top of the moon.
Stand is styrafoam with a layer of faux brown leather material glued over top, a thin wooden dowel Gorilla-glued through the middle for propping the moon into place.
