Had this idea for a lil while and finally got the pic finished. Basically human civilization has crumbled with our extinction and in our wake one of mice and rats grows thanks to just a bit of genetic mucking about by humans.
Allan sighed as he flew through the old city. The Dead City they called it. The mouse never liked it much but being a scout for the Iron Bark village it was his job to patrol it now and then. He never felt right as he and his Crow steed Jet flew it's skies. Hulking towers of steel and glass, well broken glass in the case of a lot of it, rose all around and it was hard to tell what time of day it was by the sun. And then there were the hazards of cats and hawks. Cats always prowled the dead cities of the gods. Perhaps placed there to dissuade any curious mouse or rat. Of course Allan didn't believe that. Let the old shamen tell their foolish tales. Whatever the gods were they obviously weren't perfect. After all their bones littered their cities. Allan shivered at the thought and gripped his bow tighter. Those skeletons always un-nerved him. Empty sockets staring out at you. The worst it'd ever been was one time when he had to hide in one's skull for a night to escape a cat. Allan shoot his head and banished the thought. No he had work to do. He maneuvered Jet down a street and spotted a spot on a building where the glass had recently come loose. The steel around it was bright compared to the rest. Allan shrugged and Jet banked towards it. They flew into what was a wide room with smaller rooms in the middle. Little cubes without tops. Screens in each one on the desk. Jet landed on one and Allan hopped off. He took a few steps and motioned for Jet to remain where he was. Allan looked around the desk stepping up onto what looked to be an old book of some sort. The cover was faded and cracked. Green mold was here and there on it. But it seemed to be growing here and there everywhere. Papers littered the floor. Allan spotted a knocked over chair on the floor that obviously had sat like that for well over a lifetime. The seat had grown mold covered but the plastic of the rest was in good shape if faded. Allan looked at the giant screen on the table and over to the cup nearly as big as he was. This place might be good for recourses. They'd need to get the bigger Ravens out here though and a team of cutters. Plenty of small stuff that could be salvaged. Allan needed to check the rest though. Make sure it was safe. Or safe for now. He couldn't very well barracade one of those giant doors on his own. Still it was worth it. The village was worth it. Allan always reminded himself of this as he got back on Jet and the two were once again in the air. After doing a circle or two around the room Allan confirmed that the doors leading into it were closed. With a smile on his face for that he banked Jet left and once more they were out in open sky. At least as open as the sky got in the Dead City.
Well hope you guys liked the pic and the lil story. ^^
