Well, meet the most important NPC in the Claremont Academy setting, Headmaster Duncan Summers, who, in his prime, operated as the masked crime fighter Blackwing, the second character to weird the title. He inherited the mantle from his mentor the first Blackwing, George Timmons, having worked under him for years as the sidekick Dawnwing.
Years later, after a long, hard career of superheroics where he took his own sidekick, George's adopted son Alexander Timmons (born James Moriarty IV, son of his arch-enemy) and married Jasmine Sin, the daughter of one his own arch-enemies, the Sinister Dr Sin. With Jasmine, he had a daughter, Callie. Now with much more to lose, he passed on his Cowl to Alexander and retired to raise his daughter in peace.
Sadly, this peace would be short-lived, as on her 16th birthday, Callie was kidnapped by Dr Sin, who intended to brainwash her into a "true daughter of Sin" to replace her mother. Duncan put his cowl for the first time in over a decade, and with Jasmine, Alexander and Alex' new sidekick Dawnwing II, they tracked down Sin's location. They succeeded in saving Callie, but Jasmine tragically died saving Duncan from one of Sin's Death-rays. Refusing to acknowledge his part in the deed, Sin escaped, vowing revenge for the death of his only child.
A heart-broken Duncan returned with Callie to Freedom City, where he became a very protective father, despite her wishes to take up a heroic mantle of her own. Training in secret with the help of Alexander Timmons, Callie eventually became a superheroine in her own right as Lady Blackwing. While Duncan was initially livid, he could not deny her wishes any longer, and became her mentor, training her even more intensively then she did under Alexander.
Afterwards, Duncan decided to pass on his legacy in another way, by taking the old Claremont Academy and re-opening it, turning it into a school for young supers, to teach to use their powers responsibly.
Now in his late 50s, he remains strong and handsome, though his feathers are greying and his legs are slightly weakened. But one should not assume he is any less capable, as he can swing a mean cane, and his glare can intimidate even Aka.
