Silver the hedgehog sat in a quiet living room, reading a novel. The room was hot, but he hadn't noticed, still reading a little halfhearted, his eyes taking in every word on every page. He half-read, half-mumbled a paragraph or two, chuckling to himself or grunting in disapproval at some random choice a character made. He yawned softly, lolling his head back a bit as he did so. He looked back down at the book, noticing he was halfway through chapter 23. He dogeared the page he had stopped on, setting the book down on the coffee table and going to the window. He kneeled on the couch like a child as if he were waiting for something. After a few minutes of looking outside, he sank back down in his seat and sighed softly, staring up at the ceiling. It seemed whoever he was waiting for was suffering in the heat more than himself.
Scourge the hedgehog was racing through light traffic, riding a jet-black motorcycle, leather jacket flowing behind him. He leaned a little forward, going faster as he sharply turned a corner, determined to get wherever he was going. He mumbled to himself over the roar of the engine, most likely about the heat. He sped through a small intersection, not caring whoever he'd cut off. He zoomed into what could only be a glimpse of a driveway at the speed he was going. He parked and hopped off the bike, storming inside the small house the driveway belonged to. Slamming the door behind him, he spied an albino hedgie on the couch.
"Uuuuugh, it's so fucking HOT out there, Silv..." he groaned, plopping down on the couch next to him.
"I guess so," was the small reply Silver returned.
"How the fuck are you not sweating!? It's like an oven in here, too," the green hedgehog spat, lazily fanning himself. He received a playful roll of amber eyes as a response.
"I've told you before, I was born in much hotter temperatures than this simple heat wave. I'd rather be caught in weather like this than a snowstorm..." He spoke his last words slowly, trailing off a little at the end. He perked up a little when he heard an irritated sigh come from his counterpart. Looking over, he saw the "retired king"--as he jokingly called him--slowly get up and stalk over to the thermostat, twisting the knob down to what seemed to be at least 50 degrees. He heard a more content sigh as the cold air kicked in, instantly filling the room with a breeze. Silver shivered as the air hit him, curling up into himself. He looked up at his counterpart, who smiled at him and sat next to him again, smoothing down his jacket. He looked over at the freezing snow white hedgehog, scooting a bit closer to him and nuzzling him like a kitten.
"Cold?" Scourge asked, smiling widely at his fluffy partner. He received a smile and a ginger rub of his leather-clad arm.
"Not anymore..." Silver smiled back sweetly, closing his eyes and nuzzling back.
After a few moments of peaceful silence, Silver looked over at his green counterpart. He cozied up to him a little more, breaking the ice-thin quiet in the wintery air.
"Hey, Scourge?" he started, receiving a soft "what" in reply.
"Do you wanna go take a nap?" The albino hedgehog heard a small scoff as his partner looked up at him.
"What are you, nine? No one naps anymore," Scourge grumbled, rolling his eyes as he sat up. He crossed his arms before hearing a slightly mumbled "it was just an idea," followed by the snowy being rising from his seat to walk away. The retired king sighed in guilt, getting up after him and hugging him from behind.
"I'm sorry Silv, I didn't mean it..." Scourge pouted to attempt to get a smile out of his lover and succeeded. Silver giggled and turned around to hug his emerald treasure. Scourge piped up after a minute of nuzzling, speaking in a low, soft voice.
"Y'know what? How about we go take that nap you were talking about?" Silver smiled as he heard this, taking Scourge's hand and walking upstairs with him.
