I played Advanced Second for a while. I played a wizard from Amedio (Aztec Jungle Land), a Bard worshiper of Murlynd (Cowboy Wizard/Paladin God), and a dwarf worshiper of Kord (got a lot of crap from dwarves for worshiping a human god, but kicked their asses anyway) Then my DM got a flood in his basement and I ran a 3.5 Eberron game and I realized what a shit DM he was.

I don't know about that. I find that the more streamlined and exact rules made the game better. THAC0 is an absolute mess, the "Saving Throw" system makes for way too many rolls too often and too arbitrary. (save vs magic for a fireball and save vs. Rod/Staff/Wand vs a fireball from a wand of fire? If you fail a save you have to make more rolls to save for all your items.) Having to roll initiative at the start of every round then add the speed of your action is too much rolling and too much math too often to get a streamlined game going. In 3rd edition, having the monsters follow the same "rules" as players do makes for a more fair experience and makes it so much easier to write spells. The way that spells are structured are better so you don't have to bother printing the same spell twice, and it's easier to find the spell you want to cast. Not having to consult an experience table dependent on your class.
It had some stuff going for it, though. Bards kick so much ass. Wizard Spellcasting, Warrior Proficiencies, Rogue skills and experience table. Anyone who says multi-classing is better is a god-damned liar.
But that's, just like, my opinion, man.

This is exactly what @GinSanada and I do every two weeks. Like, QUITE LITERALLY. AD&D in our friend's "man-cave" of a basement. Also we do have a D20 that blinks on crits, and while it's expensive, it's totally worth it.
Its like we're each other's dopplegangers. Also, our man-cave is full of Thor paraphernalia thanks to our friends father.
