Nice try, but May is actually named after a Greek god, Maia. The year is arbitrary - you could choose a different one, but why? Just to make a point? Might as well go with what everyone else is using.

I'll explain it (and many people ask for this one XD). Arthur wanted to test Alex if he's a 'real' atheist or not, so he asked Alex what date it was. And Alex was using Anno Domini (literally "God's year") system. Arthur thought that if he still uses AD system, he isn't a 'real' atheist

I already know that Christ's birth-date was 4 years off, and that 12-25 is -or was- the Winter Solctise. It has drifted 4 days since that date was set up.
At least the year does NOT set a date for the creation of the world.

Maybe it's because Alex by using the traditional dating system unconsciously acknowledges the birth of Christ as 2013 years ago.(some scribe was a bit off, but ...)
When France went totally atheist and started destroying all religion back around 1793, it reset the date to 1 and renamed all the months and even set up a 10-day week. A 10-day week did NOT mesh with human bio-rhythms and this helped unravel the entire new system.
There was also the incredible brutality dealt to adherents of the old ways. By Napoleon's time, all this Thermidor etc., had gone to the ash-pile meant for the old religions.
