Chapter Eighteen

Dolly keeps to the little shadows that are available to her, it's now early in the day as she makes her way through the city, it has been hours since she and her companions had to leave the safety of the museum. She scouts the area while trying to stay out of the military presence that was more actively patrolling the city than ever before, something has triggered a rise in their activity.

She makes her way back to the others who are waiting in hiding, she shakes her head to Shiya unable to find them a clear pathway. “I can’t find a clear path, there are too many soldiers.”

Shiya looks over to her, he had run into the same problem when he had searched their surroundings. “Do you think the soldiers are so thick because of what happened at the museum?”

Dolly shakes her head no. “That would explain the Terrain military, but the Avian and Aquatic militaries have both grown in their activity as well. Something pretty big must have happened.”

Shiya looks from her and over to the rest of their group, Chase once again falls victim to the strange visions he was getting while Lumia lies unconscious. “Our numbers have significantly fallen… and half of the members we do have are in no condition to fight against that kind of force.”

“It’s just the two of us then.” She turns in the direction she knows the closest city wall to be. “We need to get out of the city and out of the range of the signal that's crippling Chas-” She stops herself, remembering that Eighteen has asked her to call him something else, this request was a strange one, of course there many things about Chase right now that are a little bit strange. “I mean Eighteen…”

A look of realization fills Shiya’s face, now remembers something important. “Kanti! That was the name of my wife!” Dolly lets out a sigh, though it is great that Shiya is getting his memories back now is not the time for this.

Shiya continues to mumble to himself. “How could I have forgotten something so important?” An upset look fills his face as other things related to her start to come back as well. “She died a long time ago…” He looks over towards Dolly. “You remind me of her you know, that’s one of the first things I thought when I saw you. Though… I’m not sure how… you don’t look like her at all, and you certainly don’t act like her.”

Dolly tries to get Shiya’s mind back on the situation at hand. “Shiya I need you to focus, I said it’s just the two of us didn’t I? I can’t have you spacing out on me.”

Shiya quickly nods his head. “Of course.” He places his hand on his chin as he thinks the situation over. “That man that didn’t die when I attacked him… he’s clearly been wounded, and even though it didn’t kill him it did slow him down. Though it’s very likely that he will come after us again, and very soon seeing as the True Bloods have much faster means of healing than either the Wilds or Domestics do.”

Dolly gives a frustrated growl at the reminder, the fact that they are being hunted down by another party aside from the three militaries that occupy the city making their chances for success practically non-existent . “There has to be a way through this, we just have to find it.”

Shiya looks around him once more. “Perhaps our path is not yet open.”

“You’re suggesting we wait for something to happen!? We’ve been waiting in hiding ever since reaching the museum, all that did was make our situation worse.”

Shiya looks back to Dolly, there is very little that they can do at the moment. “What other option do we have? Can you think of anything that will cause things to turn in our favour?”

Dolly tries to think of a response other than the obvious no, her thoughts are interrupted when she hears Lumia begin to mumble and stir, the young girl lets out a whimper as she tries to move her sore body. “Dad…”

Shiya looks to the ground searching it until he finds the small robot that Lumia always had with her, the white wolf picks it up and holds it out to her, they were  sure to remember it when taking their leave from the museum. “He isn’t moving nor speaking. He must have been broken when you were attacked.”

Lumia sits up weakly takes the small robot from Shiya’s hands, she vaguely recalls what had happened to her. “We managed to get away from that man that attacked me?”

Shiya shakes his head no. “Not all of us.”

Lumia lowers her head. “I see.”

Dolly gets right to the point ,their situation is not favourable. “Lumia we have nowhere to hide anymore, we need to figure out how to get out of the city and we need to do it now. You need to hack into the Domestic Military’s systems to see if you can find an opening in the security they’ve placed.”

Lumia looks towards the computer on her arm. “I can’t right now, my computer was damaged by the electric current from that attack.”

“What if we get you to another computer?”

Lumia nods her head as she begins looking over the small robot Shiya had handed her. “Depending on the computer’s capabilities I might be able to, Domestic technology is years behind the True Bloods, so I can’t make any promises-” She stops talking abruptly when she opens the panel on the robots back to find the slot that holds the card with her father’s data empty.

Dolly questions the young girl’s silence. “Lumia, what’s wrong.”

Lumia stares at the empty spot the data card should be in. Tears starting to well up in her eyes. “Dad… dad’s gone…” She begins to cry. “Dad.”

Shiya quickly tries to hush her. “Lumia we have to be quiet if we want to keep from being found!”

Lumia begins to sob louder. “I know… but…”

Eighteen lifts his hands to his ears, he does not needing this in addition to the visions. “Stop her before I permanently shut her up!”

Dolly places her hands on Lumia’s shoulders. “Please Lumia we need your help. I know you’re upset and scared, we all are, but we really need your help right now, and for you to be able to do that you to calm down and focus.”

Lumia looks up to her, slowly nodding her head as she tries to calm down. Dolly returns the conversation to before Lumia had gotten upset. “Now, what were you saying about computers?”

*******

“Hey, wake up.”

Kane lets out a groan as he opens his eyes, sitting up to face Maigan who had shaken him awake, the tiger is grumpy to have been woken so late during the night. “Why are you not letting me get my sleep?”

The wolf frowns while answering the question. “Alawa has wandered from home. My mother requested that I go look for her, so you are coming with.”

Kane lets out an annoyed grunt. “Your parents can’t look instead of you?”

“My father is already searching the village, my mother is staying here in case she returns home. They requested that I search the forests surrounding the village.”

Kane looks over to Kitchi. “And your brother?”

“Needs his rest, he spends many hours guarding the forests that surround this village, he is entitled to sleep when he is able to get it.”

Kane gets to his feet, if this is something that has to be done then it is better to do it as soon as possible. “Let’s get this over with.”

Maigan gets to his feet as well, he leads the way, the two of them meet Eleven once outside, she looks about as impressed as Kane does right now with having to wake up to do this, Maigan apologizes to her before the three of them head out to the forests that surround the village. “This should not take long I promise, after all how far could such a small child be able to wander?”

Kane laughs at the comment. “Farther than you would think.”

Maigan is annoyed by the comment. “And what would you know about it?”

Kane gives a low chuckle. “Nothing I’m sure.”

Eleven walks ahead of them as she lowly calls out to the area ahead of them. “Alawa, where are you?”

Maigan also begins calling out. “Alawa! Mom is worried about you!”

Kane crosses his arms as he watches them, he does not have to search and only has to stay by their sides so that they can look. He lets out a yawn as he gives his surroundings a quick glance, his attention is caught when he sees a deer standing near the village, he lets out an angered growl as he turns towards it. “That damn spirit!”

He takes off running after it, Maigan and Eleven stop their search as they look back to him, Maigan yells after him as the two quickly give chase. “Where do you think you’re going!?”

Eleven comes a stop as she looks around her, Kane’s form has vanished from her sight, Maigan stops next to her when he catches up. “Which way did he go?”

“He vanished.”

“Vanished!? No one vanishes, there must be a trail somewhere we just need to find it.”

Kane runs ahead as quickly as he can, following the deer that runs from him, her figure is hard for him to see in the darkness. “Don’t think you can outrun me!” The animal’s form disappears, Kane forces himself to a stop as he looks over his surroundings. “Where did it go?”

“Is fighting really what’s most important to you?”

Kane quickly turns in the direction the voice had come from not spotting anyone or anything there. He lets out a low growl as he turns around, heading back towards Eleven and Maigan before they get too angry over him taking off.

Maigan looks over to Eleven with a frown. “This is stupid! Why should we search for him when my little sister still hasn’t been found?”

Eleven begins to explain. “It’s our responsibility to keep an eye on him, what if he’s up to something? If we leave him it will endanger the tribe.”

Kane gives the two of them a mocking laugh as he approaches them. “I was gone for hardly a minute, you two always think the worst of me don’t you?”

“What if Alawa is hurt?”

“I’m sure if she were hurt she would be crying and much easier to find.”

Maigan still doesn’t look happy with having to search. “You can look for him if you want, I have more important things to do than look after a Soldier of the Domestic military.”

Eleven tries to convince him otherwise. “Do you have any idea of how dangerous he actually is!?”

Maigan nods his head. “He has the marking in his ear, that means he’s very strong just like you and Tahki I know that. I’ll search for him, but after I find Alawa.”

Kane frowns at the conversation. “Did you two not hear me? Or are you both completely ignoring me?”

Eleven turns away from Maigan. “I will search for him on my own then.”

Kane reaches out to grab onto Eleven’s shoulder to stop her. “Is it so dark that you can’t see me standing right next to you!” He lets out a gasp of shock as his hand goes through her shoulder as if he were a ghost.

Eleven stops for a moment, looking around her as she places her hand on her shoulder, having felt something strange, she ignoring it as she begins her search for the tiger that had gone missing.

Kane looks down to his hands. “They can’t see or hear me. Why?” He turns away from them once again spotting the deer, it is this time standing within the village. “It this your doing spirit?”

The deer turns away from him as it begins making its way into the village, Kane follows it. “I did not believe that you were a spirit when I first saw you, but at this point though it’s hard not to think that seeing as I’m what seems to be a ghost or something.”

Iuana’s speaks in a worried tone of voice. “Yula you should be sleeping at this hour, what if you get sick?”

Kane comes to a stop as he looks over towards the voice, Yula wanders through the sleeping village with a tired Iuana following him as she tries to get him to sleep during the night.

Yula looks over to Iuana, his mouth and hands are full of food. “I told you I’m not tried! I just woke up from a long vision not that long ago, why should I go back to sleep right after waking up?”

Iuana sighs, though that indeed does make sense she still cannot help but be worried about him. “I’m only concerned for you, that’s all.”

“I don’t see why everyone has to always worry about me. I’m not as experienced at as much things as everyone else but that doesn’t mean that I’m helpless.”

Iuana frowns at the comment as she begins mumbling to herself. “Even though you say that your everyday actions prove different…”

Yula overhears her mumbling and snaps back at her offended. “Hey I heard that!” He turns away from her with a stubborn look on his face. “I guess I shouldn’t tell you about Teddy then.”

Iuana of course is interested in this information. “Teddy? The vision you had was related to him!?” She stops Yula from walking any further and leans forward towards him. “You have to tell me!”

Yula shakes his head no. “Nope, because you’re being mean.”

“Yula!”

Yula laughs at the reaction he has gotten out of Iuana. “I’m just kidding of course.”

“Who’s picking on who here!?”

Yula smiles at her as he begins to explain. “Teddy’s situation is less than desirable of course, but regardless of that he’s doing great! He’s really come a long way in regards to being a Source.”

“Is he alright?”

“Oh course he is, I just said so didn’t I?”

Iuana lowers her head. “Yes… but that was in regards to him being a Source… Teddy is always so sensitive and unsure about everything, something like this cannot be easy for him.”

Yula smiles at Iuana. “He’s really determined to get back to you, it’s his drive, and that’s helping him get through this.”

Kane watches the two of them, his attention taken is from them when he hears another voice. “Do you even have a reason for wanting to fight so much?”

Kane’s ears turn back as he stops searching for the voice, realizing that he was not going to find the owner of it. “I understand what you’re trying to do. Teddy has a reason to fight right? You think I should be the same?” He gets no response from the voice, Kane lets out a sigh as he returns his attention to the conversation between the brother and sister.

Yula grins at Iuana. “So when Teddy comes back are you two going to have lots and lots of little kids?”

Iuana looks annoyed by the comment. “Of course that’s implied, but when we plan on having children is none of your business yet!”

“I guess I’ll just have to ask Teddy next time I see him.”

“You will not!! What if you scare him with the idea!? You know how Teddy is!”

“Am I ever going to have any brothers or sisters one day?”

Kane sighs as he turns away from the scene. “I don’t have time for this.”

“Why are you so quiet all the time? You hardly talk you know. You can at least talk to me can’t you?”

“Papa?”

A frown fills Kane’s face as he narrows his eyes, he knows exactly who this voice belongs to, and even the moments he had heard these words. “I told you not to call me that anymore.”

“Why?”

Kane turns around staring at a young girl that stood behind him, she is of tiger descent just as he is and even shares similar markings. “Why can’t I call you that anymore?”

Kane explains with a frown on his face. “Because it’s dangerous, what if my enemies were to find out about you? They would come after you, you could be captured or even killed.”

The little girl frowns at her father. “I’m not helpless! If anyone came for us I could fight with you. So we should stick together!” She glances away from him. “I know you’re sad about what happened to mom, but that doesn’t mean you have to go back to fighting and join the army. I’m sad about mom too you know.”

Kane ignores the young girl’s request. “I will bring money to this location once a month, if you happen to come at the same time I am here you will not approach me and you will wait for me to leave. If by chance I stop showing up then you must assume me dead. You’ll be on your own after that.”

The young girl looks toward the ground. “You’ll come back when you’re done fighting… right?”

“Will you stop trying to stop me from going if I say yes?”

“This isn’t a matter of you telling me what I want to hear! You’re giving me your word that when you’re done fighting you’ll come back, and we’ll be together again.”

“I will not be able to commit to that if I die.”

“You’re too strong to die, you’re not going to.”

“Kane?” Kane looks back towards the voice to find Iuana looking up at him. “You look troubled.”

Kane turns around to face both her and Yula. “You can see me?”

Yula lets out a laugh in-between eating. “Well yeah it’s not THAT dark out.”

Iuana looks around them. “Did you manage to get away from Eleven and Maigan again? If you keep doing that you’re only going to make them less trusting of you, especially if you keep showing up around me.”

Kane crosses his arms. “It wasn’t intentional.”

“So then, what’s on your mind?”

“What do you mean?”

Iuana points out what has been pretty obvious for her to see. “You looked as if you were deep in thought, and that what you were thinking about was upsetting you.”

Kane nods his head. “I suppose that may be true.” He turns away from Iuana. “I must speak to Achak.”

Iuana watches him leave a little bit puzzled, she slowly turns back to Yula as she questions him about it. “What do you think has him so bothered?” She pauses for a moment when she finds Yula turned away from her kneeling on the ground as Alawa reaches for the food he is holding, she has come out from her game of hiding from her brother and family in the dark by the sight of food. “What are you doing out here so late?” She walks over to Alawa picking her up and carrying her back to hut she should be sleeping in. “Is no one sleeping as they should be tonight?”

Zephyr stands at the elevator that leads to the cities underground power station, he is now dealing with the commotion that had happened here not that long ago, Teddy has been spotted but then vanished from sight quickly after. It corresponded with a stealth suit that had been taken from one of the members of the team he had sent to hunt down the missing Super Soldier.

He lets out a sigh it's clear what needs to be done at this point. “Alert all military personal to report in, and everyone who is not a member of the military to evacuate their homes and report in to the bomb shelters. The fortress is going to lockdown and the army will be entering battle phase, I want the footmen, the mec soldiers, the special forces, all from basic ranks to the elite ranks all ready and awaiting my orders.”

The soldiers don’t look sure about this idea. “These precautions are for if the city is under attack or for if we’re at war. It’s just two missing subjects.”

Zephyr does not change his mind. “One of the subjects is a living weapon designed to have the strength and skills of an army in one person, the other has the powers of a god. Just what do you think will happen once we find and confront them?”

The soldiers both look to one another, it's hard to argue with a scenario like that. “Of course sir…”

The soldiers both leave, Zephyr turns away as he makes his way from the facility, opening communications along the way as a holographic image of the lemur that leads the group currently chasing down Zack appears near him. “Your target has acquired the Lightning Source.”

July lets out a sigh. “I guess that gets rid of our options in concerns to waiting for his stealth suit to run dry on power. Alongside him he becomes more of a threat of course.”

Zephyr gets right to the point. “The fortress is going into lockdown and the army will be initiating battle phase. Once that happens it will no longer be a stealth mission, which means your entire group should be able to look for him without restraints.”

July nods her head at the order. “Understood sir.”

Bret lets out a startled gasp as Tahki slowly begins to push herself up from the ground, she has startled him with her movement.

Alistair looks over to Tahki. “Oh good you’re awake.” Tahki looks over Alistair with a cold glare, Alistair quickly speaks up before she is able to say anything. “I know, I know, I’m not a person you want to be around. I have to say I feel the same way, I would have much rather have had them catch one of the Super Soldiers on my side so I wouldn’t have to deal with trust issues, but here we are.”

He looks over toward Genesis who is currently deep in his work, he then looks back to Tahki and speaks in a low tone of voice. “I have a plan to get us out of here, but I need the help of another Super Soldier if I intend to pull it off. So, I am requesting a temporary truce with you… well… sort of a truce, it’s a little bit complicated.”

Tahki stares at him the idea of trusting him is not an easy one to fathom, Alistair continues to speak despite not getting a yes or no answer from her. “All you have to do is keep me from killing the kid. Alright?”

Bret is offended by the comment, the child raises his voice and yells at him. “Is that some kind of insult towards me!?”

Genesis looks back to the three of them when he hears Bret speak, his attention is on Tahki when he notices that she is awake. “You’re up, I was wondering when you would be joining us.”

Alistair looks over toward Tahki, stopping the mouse from springing forward to attack. “Don’t go through the trouble of attacking him. You’re back to wearing one of those electrical collars around your neck, you’ll only hurt yourself if you do.”

Tahki holds herself back from attacking, the mouse lifts her hand to her neck to see if what Alistair has said is the truth, her hand touches the electrical collar she now has around her neck. She looks back to professor to question him about this. “What do you want from me?”

Alistair grins as he leans back. “He’s got a bunch of intrusive questions to ask you, I hope you don’t mind publicly speaking about your most intimate secrets what with me and brat here.”

“I’m not a brat! And that’s not my name either and you know it!”

Genesis sighs as he looks over towards Alistair. “1286-02, there’s no reason for you to make things harder by telling her things like that, they are questions related to my search and research nothing more.”

Tahki responds in a cold tone. “I will answer your questions, you know that I have no choice but to do so.” She looks over to Alistair.  “But I would rather not answer these questions near him. We are not on the same side, and should we escape I do not want him to use such information against me and my companions.”

Professor folds his hands. “You will not be escaping, so there is nothing for you to worry about.”

“You do not know that.”

“Oh? Do you think that you can escape?”

Tahki places her hand upon her still healing arm. “I think the chances are slim, but I also know that I have gotten out of similar situations before. I do not have a habit of staying captured for long.”

“What is your plan of escape from here?”

“I do not make plans. I find my opening and act according to instinct moment by moment.”

The professor hums to himself. “That is reckless and dangerous, I’ll have to keep a close eye on you then.”

Alistair watches as the Professor questions Tahki, the True Blood’s eyes are fixed on her at the moment. He looks over to the boy that is now by his side as he speaks to him in a low whisper. “I need you to help me out with my escape plan.”

Bret looks up towards Alistair, the coyote explains as he motions over towards the beacon that produced the signal that hinders the Super Soldiers in the city. “You don’t have a collar around your neck, so you can get past Genesis and get near that thing. I want you to destroy it.”

The young wolverine doesn’t look too thrilled with the idea, though Genesis had not been the one that had taken him here he is still terrified of the both of them. “I can’t do that! He’ll see me!”

“Look kid, I need you to do this. That thing is crippling me and everyone like me, if you want me to help you get out of here I need that gone.”

Professor Genesis glances over towards Alistair and Bret when he hears them whispering, he is of course going to question them about this. “What are you two talking about?”

Alistair is about to answer him, but Bret speaks up and interrupts him before he is able to ruin any slight chance they may have of escape by revealing his plans. “He keeps talking to a voice in his head called Zero! What is wrong with him!? Can’t you make him stop!? He’s really starting to scare me!”

Genesis shakes his head as he turns away from the two of them and returns his attention to Tahki.

Bret looks back to Alistair for a moment, though it is clear by now that the coyote can not lie to Genesis he certainly is capable of it. He turns away from him preparing to do what Alistair has asked of him taking a deep breath before pushing himself to his feet, he slowly makes his way along the wall, his whole body shakes as he tries his best not to think about what might happen to him if he were caught. Despite his doubts he still wants to get out of this place and return back home.

Genesis begins with his questions for Tahki. “You’re associated with at least one of the Six Sources aren’t you?”

Tahki nods her head yes. “Shiya, the Ice Source.”

“What is your relationship with him?”

Tahki doesn’t look pleased to answer that question. “Formally he is my chieftain, and I am his first warrior. Personally, he is the man that took me in, took care of me, accepted me for both my strengths and my faults. He taught me that I am much more than a weapon, and introduced me to a life that I never considered I would be capable of calling my own. I respect and love him for everything he has done for me, I would do anything to protect him.”

“You’re in love with him?”

Tahki shakes her head no. “I am in love with my husband, my relationship with Shiya is not the same.”

Genesis seems interested in this. “You’re married? Any children?”

Tahki turns away from him, hesitating for a moment before answering. “Though me and my husband want children we have not been able to have any, the few that we are able to conceive have always died before ever coming close to being born.”

“Is your husband sick? Weak?”

Tahki looks back to him. “What do you mean?”

“Super Soldiers are made to breed Soldiers, especially in concerns to the females. If his genes are ones that will hinder your offspring instead of improve it then your body will reject them. From your explanation that seems to be what is happening, you should have chosen your mate more wisely.”

Bret comes to a stop, having moved along the wall as close to he can get to the device, he is now going to have to make his way away from the wall if he wants to get any closer to it.

He stares at the device for a moment, contemplating just how he is supposed to break it. It seems pretty frail and looks like it is easy enough to break, all he he has to do is walk over to it throw it over, maybe hit it with something hard. He tries to push himself away from the wall as to approach the device, but finds himself unable to do so, his whole body is shaking and practically freezing him in place.

Bret looks back to Alistair not sure if he can do this, yet knowing at the same time that he will have to if he wants to get out of here. He looks over to Tahki, as soon as Genesis runs out of questions to ask his attention would be off of her, and he would certainly spot him all the way over here and realize what is going on.

Bret takes another deep breath to try and calm his nerves as he slowly takes his hands off of the wall and starts to walk towards the device, he needs to do this now if he wants to get out of here.

Genesis continues with his questions for Tahki. “Now, if you could answer some questions about the Ice Source. Do you know his current location?”

Tahki shakes her head no. “Undoubtedly he has moved since being attacked, the Museum was our last refuge in the city. We had nowhere to go after that.”

Genesis nods his head as he takes a glance at his files. “The records the Domestic Military keep saying that he has two confirmed offspring, a boy and a girl. Do you know their status?”

“From what I understand they are both alive and well. Neither of them are in this city, they are both safe within Raven Wolf village.”

“And the location of that village?”

A crashing sound interrupts Tahki before she is able to answer, Genesis quickly turns around to see that Bret forcefully threw his equipment to the ground, breaking the beacon that is sending out the signals. His destruction does not end there as he continues the throw over and kick at the computer and electronics Genesis has there.

The professor turns towards him yelling out in a horrified tone of voice. “What are you doing!?”

Alistair grabs onto the collar around his neck as he quickly gets to his feet and leaps towards Genesis before he can lay a finger on the boy, the electric collar on his neck activates and sends painful waves of electricity through his body, Alistair screams out in both pain and anger as he pulls against the collar around his neck.

Genesis quickly turns back to Alistair, his actions are clearly harmful to himself and even capable of killing him. “What are you doing!? I explained what would happen to you if you tried to attack me or remove that collar! Are you trying to get yourself killed?”

Tahki watches Alistair, she then looks over towards Bret who is still destroying any electronic he can get his hands on. She grabs onto the collar around her own neck not sure of what Alistair is expecting her to do as long she has this on, she is not able to get far with it.

Alistair lets out one last scream of pain as he rips the collar free of his neck, the coyote lets out a low growl as he drops the collar on the ground.

Genesis takes a step back from him, something like that is impossible. “Your adrenaline must be through the roof for you to be able to remove that in such a way.”

Alistair leaps at him to attack biting onto his nearest limb and digging his teeth into the armour, Genesis takes a blade that he has attached to his suit and stabs it into Alistair's side, causing him to yelp as he lets go and takes several steps back, Genesis quickly activates the cloaking device on his suit and disappears from sight.

Alistair pulls the knife from his side throwing it away from him, he lets out another low growl as he stares in the spot the Professor had just been in, he is now slowly beginning to scan the room for anything that may be a threat.

Tahki stares at Alistair there is something strange about the way he is attacking, his actions are not thought out or following any basic codes of combat, Alistair acting more as if he were a wild animal.

Alistair’s eyes stop on Bret, he immediately leaps forward to attack him. Tahki reacts quickly as she rushes forward to stop him, leaping onto him and throwing him to the ground, Alistair throws her off of him as he now targets and attacks her.

Bret looks a little surprised by what has just happened. “What is he doing? Did he just try to attack me? And what will fighting her accomplish!?”

Tahki pushes herself up scanning the floor around her until she finds the knife that Alistair had pulled from his side, the mouse quickly dodges out of the way as Alistair leaps at her again, making her way to the weapon and picking it up to arm herself.

Alistair leaps at her once again, Tahki slices at him with the knife she holds and cutting into him, the coyote lets out an angered snarl as he backs away to keep from being sliced again, he though does not hesitate long before attacking once more.

Genesis watches the two Super Soldiers fight, he quickly tries to recall Alistair files as to try and makes sense of what is going on. “His defect… his batch was destroyed for being extremely violent to the point he was uncontrollable. I didn’t think that explanation meant something like this.”

Tahki continues to avoid Alistair’s attacks, there is no doubt about it he is no longer thinking and just reacting like a violent and wounded animal, if he stays here it is possible that he will try and attack that child again if he sees him. Alistair clearly knew about these concerns having given her instructions to keep him from hurting the boy. She needs to separate the two of them.

The first thing that would usually come to mind is to run and have him give chase as to lead him away from the child, but because of the collar Tahki has around her neck that is something that she can not not do, at the moment she is confined to this area, and somehow she needs to force Alistair out of it.

She looks over to a covered window in the room, that is her best option. Tahki stabs the knife she has been holding into the cast on her arm while looking over to Bret and yells to him. “Get out of here! I’ll meet you on the floor below this one!”

Bret looks confused by the order. “What?”

“Trust me and do as I say!”

The boy turns away from her runs towards the door of the room, this movement catches Alistair’s attention and causes him to direct his attention to the boy, he lets out a snarl as he prepares to attack him, his advance is interrupted by Tahki rushing towards him and slamming her body into him, forcing him across the room and into the window, the two smash through the glass as she throws the both of them out of it.

Tahki grabs onto the frame of the window, her hand being cut by the broken shards of glass as she tries to hold herself up, Alistair falls and hits the street bellow.

Tahki acts quickly needing to get herself to safety before the pain makes her let go, she kicks into the window of the apartment below the one she had just been in breaking it and making an opening for herself, the mouse lets go of the ledge she is hanging off of and pulls herself into it.

She brings her hand to her face to see the damage that has been done, pulls the broken glass from her hand with her teeth before grabbing onto the knife she had forced into her cast and pulls it free. She takes  in a deep breath before thrusting the knife into the lock of the collar around her neck to try and force it open, this of course activates it and causes it to send surges of electricity through her body.

Tahki forcefully manages to pry the collar open, her body falls weak as the surges of electricity finally stop allowing her to pull the collar off and throw it from her. She stays still on the ground for only a few moments before forcing herself up and looking out of the window down to the street below, Alistair is nowhere in sight.

Footsteps can be heard outside in the halls, Bret calls out as he runs through them. “Hey!! Lady!! Where are you!?”

Tahki forces herself to her feet, though the three of them have managed to get away from their captor her and the boy are still within the vicinity of the True Blood, she needs to get the two of them away from this place. She makes her way to the door of the apartment forcing it open and stepping out into the halls, it does not take long for her and the young boy to spot one another.

Tahki places her hand within Bret’s as she begins to lead him out of the building. It is clear that the True Blood that has stayed behind is lacking in combat experience, and is possibly both shocked and scared by what has just happened, or else the boy wouldn’t have been able to make it all the way out here. He would regain his composure eventually though, and once he does he still has a combat suit that has both strength enhancing and stealth capabilities, and there is no way that Tahki will be able to stand up against that in her weakened state.

Raven Wolf - 05 - The Abandoned - Chapter 17
Raven Wolf - 05 - The Abandoned - Chapter 19
Book 5 in the Raven Wolf series.

Due to human negligence the world as we know it has ended and been reborn. The animal spirits that guide man giving them the forms of animals so that they would be able to survive in this new wilderness. Though now carrying the form of beasts man has not forgotten the place they once had, as an existence greater then just what nature wanted of them, an existence above all.

Those that worked to gain their humanity are known as domestics, while those who wished to follow the rolls the spirits had given them were known as wilds. Both groups grew arrogant and hateful of one another, the wilds saw the domestics as selfish monsters, for they were returning to the ways that had once destroyed the world, while the domestics saw the wilds as primitive beings afraid of progress, they no better than wild animals.

The raven and the wolf spirits grew tired of the destruction and fighting, and sided with the wilds in their ideals, the domestics only capable of further destroying nature. In their anger they marked a tribe of wilds with a curse, they being removed from the sacred circle of life, unable to hunt or grow their own food, their souls never able to move on while their bodies are unable to return to the earth when they died. The curse upon them only broken once the domestics are gone once and for all. The cursed tribe now known to all by the name of the spirits whom cursed them. ‘Raven Wolf'
