Been a while since I uploaded anything, huh? Anyway, it was my friend Relee Squirrel's birthday recently and I wanted to do something special. Fascinatingly enough, as I was trying to figure out what to transform her into, I had a dream that night about someone agreeing to be turned into a candy robot. I thought that'd fit perfectly for Relee's love of cute colorful things.

Since I still have no scanner I had to do this the hard way: taking photos of the lineart and tracing over them in GIMP. Sometimes I'm glad I have an older computer without a lot of bells and whistles, sometimes I'm not. :/

Well, since I can't tell that this was done from a photo of lineart, I'd say you did an excellent job on this. It's adorable, and delightfully silly. Just what I'd expect from you. :)

Thanks very much! I've done the same technique before when scanning an old sketch and the penicl lines don't stand out enough from the background. It's intensive but I like the end results.

I may have to do that since I have no scanner, and I'm still not used to using a tablet yet. What's the best way to go about it?

Unfortunately there's not really any shortcuts. Just pick a color that'll contrast against the sketch and trace each line with your mouse.

i have little to no patience w/ the GIMP. SAI puts out smoother lines. It's very VERY cheap.

Also, Cute squirrel bot.... I'll take a dozen. For science-y reasons.... >///>

Think of it as a really cheap Photoshop that's only for drawing and painting. It has really smooth lines (about as smooth as your own are). I believe it's free to download (if it's not, it's about 60 bucks). And as for Mac... Sorry to say it's a windows only program... :(
