The Protector's Hidden Roots Part 9

Please read A New Power Arising and The Chosen Protector first before reading this or else you won't understand this.

Another three days passed as Flame woke up in his bed. The sunlight shined on his face on a cool summer morning with temperatures in the mid seventies. The sheets seemed newer to Flame than he had remembered as he slid his hand back and fourth on it. Flame sat up and turned his body off to the side to get his feet on the carpet. Flame had taken his first two steps out of bed in a long time. His balance was off and he was stumbling all over the place he even knocked an expensive vase off his nightstand and shattered it into pieces. Flame had to place his hand on a nearby wall to stop himself from falling over and knocking even more things down. Flame regained his composure after those clumsy moments. Flame was horrified after he noticed his robe was gone.

"Where is it?!" Flame panicked as he was moving his hands furiously around his body. Kage had opened Flame's bedroom door and asked "Is everything alright in here?"

"Where did my robe go?" Asked a frazzled Flame as he started to search under his bed and closet.

"Oh that? It was taken by the Elegon to get it cleaned up after what you did to it." Explained Kage.

"What did I do to it?" Flame asked as he stopped searching and payed attention to Kage.

"Well from what I was told. You had a dream that became a reality summing it up-" "My dream!" Flame interrupted. "Yes, now if you let me continue. I was assigned to stay in your home until you awoke to explain and answer anything you may have questions on." Kage finished as he bowed his head showing respect to Flame.

"Thank you very much." Flame said calmly as he started to settle down. "When is it coming back from Elegon?"

"Could be any day, I wouldn't worry about it though. Oh and before you freak out any more. Your necklace is gone as well, the Elders also took that." Kage said trying to be gentle with Flame so he doesn't panic.

"What?!" Flame looked down at himself but regained his composure and coughed lightly into his hand to hide any awkwardness. "So what am I supposed to do now?" Flame asked.

"Honestly, whatever you want really. Think of this like a vacation for now. But I am also here to assist you until you need me no more." Kage explained.

"Where is Serene?" Flame asked wanting to see her again. "It feels like ages since I have laid my eyes on her."

"She is also with the Elders and or around the town to help everyone else out. But before anything you should probably get ready for today. It's about noon now just so you know." Kage recommended Flame as he had kind of a grizzled look to him.

"I guess so, don't want to scare everyone off." Flame laughed at himself as he walked into the bathroom. Flame had taken off his pants and pushed them aside as he had turned on the shower to let it reach a temperature he found fitting. Flame washed his face with cold water to wake him up a little bit more, he stepped into the shower.

"What happened to me while I was out...?" Flame thought to himself. "All I can remember is that I was fighting Kakado for a long time and nearly was killed. Then I had light powers? What was that about?" Flame continued to try to recap everything he could remember. "Then, a spirit or something? But I remember I saw a Gardevoir in my hands as it was unconscious then I blanked out." Flame was done with his shower after twenty minutes of thinking and talking to himself. Flame stepped out and he had felt great to finally take another good shower. Thirty more minutes passed as he got a new pair of pants on after drying himself off and checking himself in the mirror to make sure everything was in order.

"I look great after a shower, except with all the scars around my stomach." Flame thought to himself. He stepped out of his room Kage turned around and bowed to Flame asking "Are you ready sir?"

"That I am. Did the Elders give you anything to do for today?" Asked Flame.

"Yes, I mentioned it earlier. I am supposed to escort you around to make sure your bearings are back on basically. So first thing is to take a trip around the town." Kage explained.

"Sounds fine to me." Flame agreed. The two Gallades left the Protector's home and began their trek. Everyone who had saw Flame smiled at him and nodded slightly at him, Flame had smiled back as he passed all the other evolutions of himself. "I almost vaguely remember that." Flame thought to himself. A very familiar Kirlia was walking around and saw Flame. She wanted to sneak up behind Flame which she was following him for a minute. Being stealthy as possible until she found her moment to strike. She leaped for Flame and got behind his head and covered his eyes. "Guess who!" Said the Kirlia. Kage quickly turned around releasing his mighty blades being caught off guard as well. "Get off the Protector!" Demanded Kage.

"Oh it's just a game." Replied the Kirlia.

"That voice...Is it you Lily?" Guessed Flame.

"Bingo!" Lily said as she gracefully floated to the ground. Flame turned around to look at her and she gave a curtsy to him.

"It's been forever!" Flame said with immense happiness as he knelt down to pick her up and gave her a hug.

"Too...Hard." Lily said trying to get any air she could while flailing her arms.

"Oh! Sorry!" Flame said as he quickly put her back. Kage had retracted his blades back into his arms.

"You shouldn't be so uptight Gallade." Lily said to Kage.

"I have to be ready to fight while I am with Flame." Kage replied sternly.

"Well if that's the case! You didn't do a good job against me." Lily laughed as she also taunted to Kage.

"Why you...!" Kage said as he held himself back.

"Now now, settle down you two." Flame said.

"Yes sir." Kage positioned himself straight and facing Flame.

"Hey Lily, where is your friend at?" Flame asked confused to see Lily by herself.

"He's at work right now actually. It's my day off and I'm just strolling on through town. I really didn't expect to see you though!" Lily explained.

"How about we go eat something?" Asked Flame. "I haven't had a decent meal in a long time." Flame's stomach began to growl loudly as everyone laughed. They all walked to the food district in the city. All kinds of food were made to suit the taste-buds of everyone in the city. New recipes were made every day and that food just became better and better everyday.

"So many choices." Flame said as he groaned. "Can someone else decide?" Lily and Kage continued to look around until they both said "There!" they pointed at a place called Variety Hour.

"What's that?" Flame asked blankly staring at the restaurant.

"It's a place where anything you can think of that is food is made there!" Lily said excitedly.

"Well let's go then!" Flame said as he Kage and Lily walked to the front door. Kage got to the door handle first and opened it, bowing his head to let Flame in first and Lily followed right after.

"Thank you Kage." Flame and Lily said in unison. The restaurant had a great vibe in the air. Everyone who ate in there always had their needs met with excellent service and a great staff to match the overall quality of food. Flame noticed they even had a live band playing music to suit the dining experience. The carpet they even walked on could be felt that it was used with the best fabric that could be made. All the chairs and tables were made out of mahogany   along with the booths' tables as well. The benches for the booths were made of out a top-class leather that Flame had never seen. The shine that the entire place was almost unreal.

"Why have I not heard of the place? I am definitely not used to this." Commented Flame. Flame had noticed a band playing a soft classical piece with the utmost precision using violins, flutes, and a piano. Not a wrong key could have been heard even with supersonic hearing. Flame had also noticed there was a female Gardevoir singing lightly with the music, her voice was soft and blissful it could even make its listeners be entranced by the whole set up. "That is such good music, I can't believe they even have that here as well!" Flame amazement could not be ceased thus far. They headed up to the front podium where a hostess was smiling waiting to serve Flame, Kage, and Lily. They had arrived and saw a beautiful Gardevoir as happy as can be, Kage had a quick thought flash through his mind about her and Lily had picked up on it, but Flame was oblivious to the psychic hint.

"Welcome to Variety Hour! My name is Julie, how may-" She had stopped the routine introduction when she noticed Flame quickly became flustered and changed her whole saying "Uh, ah, welcome Protector and friends!". "Where would you like to sit at?"

"A booth would suffice." Answered Kage. Flame and Lily nodded in agreement to Julie, she said nothing and put a smile on her face as she gestured them to follow her. She gracefully led them to a booth well away from anyone else who was dining in. Flame took his seat first as Lily and Kage sat on the opposite side of the table from Flame.

"What would you care for a drink?" Asked Julie as she blushed when she got to see the Protector up close and personal while laying down the menus in front of them.

"I would like some tea, any kind you have will do." Replied Flame. Lily and Kage also placed there order as they got Poke'Cola. Lily had nudged Kage before she asked "I know what you were thinking back there Kage!" Lily said fiendishly.

"What was that?" Asked a perplexed Flame. Kage had begun to blush a little and tilted his head down not answering any of the questions.

"He just has a little crush on Julie that's all." Lily answered.

"Nothing is wrong with that." Flame said to reassure Kage.

"Maybe so, but I don't know if I even stand a chance with her is all. She's just gorgeous and I like the vibe I get from her." Explained Kage.

"Now that's not the confident Kage I know. You have what it takes! I mean c'mon, you're a Gallade after all and they are sought higher especially because of the profession you have." Flame said laughing with a bright smile showing Kage his support.

"Yeah with those big arms and a personality like yours I would be surprised if she said no." Lily also adding her support.

Julie delivered the drinks carefully placing them on the table. "Are we ready to order?" asked Julie with a bright smile. Flame, Lily, and Kage all made their orders and continued to talk about various topics and soon after their food had arrived. They had one heck of a feast from what Flame felt along with Lily and Kage.

Meanwhile, Serene had been attending with Blizz and Aero as they were in the Palace Library looking up anything they can on any clues or history of the pendents and how they could even trap a live Gardevoir to begin with. The Library itself was massive, four floors with twenty five foot tall bookshelves filled to the brim with information on every floor, neatly arranged to find any book with ease. The design was an exquisite beauty of manufacturing, very high quality of wood for the shelves, custom carpet made by the carpenters of the city, even the books themselves seemed to be replaced by newer copies every so often.  Various walkways, tables, chairs, and step-ladders is what really divided the perfect pattern of everything, then the occasional Gardevoir or Kirlia walking through the aisles looking for more information to read.

"As far as I have read it doesn't seem possible to extract them without a side effect or it just not working at all." Said Serene as she broke the silence and had a stack of four books already read.

"All I have seen is just old rituals that used to be performed to revive the fallen, but that wasn't a perfect solution either." Blizz mentioned.

"I may have something here, but it is a long shot." Aero said as he showed the book to the two Gardevoirs. "Here is what I'm talking about" he had pointed to a passage that explained this process can only happen on a certain day of the year. "Like it said, we can only do this on that specific time which actually is only a couple of weeks away!" Aero said excitedly.

"I just have a question though." Asked Serene as she couldn't grasp something about the passage.

"What is it Serene?" Asked Blizz. "It's just I don't get how we can animate the souls out of the pendent without having a host, or a body of two Gardevoirs." Serene said with confusion.

"I do see your point." Aero said defeated as his hopes became smaller. "I know what I can do, for now Serene. I need you to go to Flame wherever he is and just relax and not to worry about this mystery for now. Blizz, Elegon, and I will investigate into this more with the help from some of our other friends outside the city. Heck, maybe even they have had a predicament like this!" Aero said laughing trying to cheer himself up.

"If that is what you wish. I haven't seen my love in a long time, at least conscience." Serene giggled as she walked out of the Library after she gave a curtsy to Aero and Blizz. Aero turned to her and said "We should probably get to contacting everyone we can." Blizz just nodded as they put all the books back with telekinesis.

Flame, Lily, and Kage walked out of the restaurant happy that Kage had convinced Julie to go on a date with him next week. Flame had told him that he would have no problem with women if he could get someone as nice as her to be interested in him with just a couple of questions. Kage just laughed as he only had Julie on his mind while they continued their travels around the town.

"I think it's about time for me to leave." Lily said.

"Why is that?" Asked Flame.

"Well Sebastian is getting off work in a few minutes so I'm going to go meet him and surprise him right as he walks out of the front door of his work." Lily said as she politely bowed to Flame and Kage as she took her leave to her love. Flame and Kage continued to walk on as something had kept bothering Flame as all the female Gardevoirs couldn't stop looking at Flame.

"Is something on my face Kage?" Flame asked worriedly.

"No," Kage laughed at Flame for being worried about that "it's just you are the Protector and it is during the time of mating season anyways. Just take it as a compliment really and don't get so worked up on it."

"Okay, just haven't really been back in a while, kinda forgot what really was going on." Flame laughed a little as he gained his confidence back.

Serene was walking through town and contacted Flame telepathically to meet him at their home, with that message Flame had sent Kage back to his post near the Palace as Flame teleported back home.

"Flame!" Serene shouted as she embraced Flame tightly, he returned the embrace as he kissed her long and passionately. They did this for a few minutes as they stopped kissing they just looked into each others eyes, both realizing how much they absolutely missed one another. They went straight to their room without a word and laid on the bed, embracing each other until they both fell asleep.

A few hours had passed from their nap as Flame woke up first from his slumber, Serene was still in his arms, he gave her a kiss on the forehead and gave her a gently shake to wake her up. She slowly opened her blue eyes to see her love gazing lightly admiring all of her astounding beauty.

"Good morning love." Flame said with a great smile.

"More like good night." Serene replied back as Flame had forgotten they had taken a nap during the mid-day. They both laughed at her joke and got out of bed. For the next hour they stepped outside under the star-lit sky and danced with each other smiling knowing they are holding one another again. Every so often they passionately kissed one another changing their dancing styles after too. No matter the dance: Salsa, Waltz, Ballroom, they could do it all with each other with no mistakes. The full moon only amplified their passion as they could dance even longer in the dark. After the hour had passed they walked through their house and went outside to being their walk around the town. Flame holding Serene with his right arm over her shoulders and Serene resting her head on Flame's chest, both of them wanting their moment to continue on.

"Flame!" A distant voice echoed throughout the night. Flame had turned around to see Kage, and two other Gallades running at him full speed. When they stopped in front of Flame and Serene they were breathing heavy, being slouched over and placing their hands on their knees.

"Catch your breath, take your time." Serene said with slight concern.

"Okay, okay." Kage said as he stood back up. "The Elders want you to the Palace right away, they've made an incredible discovery!"
