Lovely picture. The look on their faces is geat. Ahh...but I have to ask (sorry, this is nagging me), is there a reason that the color transition between the red and brown fur is all blurry? It sticks out quite a lot and makes me wonder if those parts are in motion or not.

Softness..hmm..I think you could achieve a soft look a lil better by using more tones and light and dark colors in the fur. Usually a hard outline is used to show a boundry where something ends and something else begins. Since you're using outlines all around the image, and only blur it where the fur changes color, it sort of looks inconsistant ^^; For example, the fur around their eyes is not blurred, nor the fur in their ears. The muzzle is also left alone. You could paint over the outlines and create a more realistic and less distracting sort of softness.

Once you put some more colors in there, helping to indicate not just shadow but light too, then you can easily get a nice soft feel to the surface of what you're painting ^^
