April O'Neil's put-upon cameraman Vernon from the original Ninja Turtles episode Were-Rats from Channel 6, wherein Vernon and April's assistant Irma get turned into anthro rat mutants by the villain called the Rat King. I made Rat!Vernon a little more feral here than he was in the episode, having lost his shoes and socks and torn his pant legs a bit. He also didn't have black lips in the episode, but spookaboo drew him in this form gave him some, and I liked the look.

I had some difficulties coloring this. Even with RGB Color selected, it would color in grays. I did everything I could to fix this but no dice. I had to select a mode I'd never used before called Indexed Color, which essentially forced color onto it, but immediately turned the file from a JPEG to a PSD, and in order to save it as a JPEG I had to reset its mode back to RGB Color.

Fortunately, the colors remained, but any touchups I needed to do I needed to (again!) revert it to Indexed Mode, then change it back to RGB to save. As it is now, the colored bits can be filled in without turning to gray, but the white parts, for example the whites of his eyes, will be filled in as gray no matter what color I choose.

Anyone who can shed some light on why the RGB Color mode of my Photoshop is broke as fuck would be appreciated. I really hope this complicated back-and-forth means of coloring my pics doesn't become the norm. It's very frustrating.
