"Odd place for a run"
Looking to train his lungs, this snallygaster's decided to try out running underwater. With some goggles on, he took a deep breath and dove down, sinking to the bottom and... Trying to run. His first few attempts would just lift him off the bottom like normal swimming, but after some practice he managed to get it down. After getting another breath, he began properly running, and did quite well, managing to go over a mile in one breath! Only barely, though; by the end of it, his face was going purple and he couldn't keep his air secure any more... Soon after, he stopped and shivered, spurts of bubbles bursting from his trembling beak. That was enough, he'd drown if he stayed much longer. Jumping off the bottom, the snallygaster quickly swam for the surface, using his wings to speed himself up.
According to Cryptid Wiki: Originating in Maryland, the snallygaster is a hybrid of a bird and a reptile, with a metallic beak, and is sometimes described to have tentacles. It flies silently and carries away its victims. It's scared off by seven-pointed stars, which to this day can be seen on some barns in the area. It's possible it was made up to scare freed slaves, however. At one time, Theodore Roosevelt put off an African safari to try to hunt one (Perfectly in character for him, of course, that guy was rad). The last recorded sighting of one was in 1909.
