The first time lightning strikes you, you get patched up at the hospital and go about your day. The second time, you curse your bad luck. The third time, you start generating a magnetic field, and from there, you're carrying a lightning rod out into rain storms on the regular. Iggy's magnetic field doesn't extend very far, so unfortunately no magnetic god stuff for him, but with a collection of trusty power tools and some custom-built magnetic gadgets, anything is possible!
Regarding why he wants to be a hero, he'd say that anyone with his powers and skills would do the same. It's only natural to help when others are in a rough position. Taking a peek into his past reveals that his mother died in childbirth and his father from cancer, leaving Iggy, the oldest of 5, to take over the responsibility of caring for his kid siblings. Sure, things get a little tight between working on his gadgets, doing hero work when he has time, and transporting people to their various soccer games, school events, and friend hang outs, but he's got more than enough love to share. Plus, some of his younger siblings are taking to engineering with a fervor that rivals his own! And kids have the coolest superhero ideas.
Unfortunately, while he's more than happy to make all this time for everyone, he's not a machine. Any engineer will tell you that if you don't schedule maintenance, your machine will do with for you, and when you burn the candle at every end possible, you end up collapsing into the couch after 38 hours of working and interacting. He wants to give everything of himself for those he loves, but hasn't yet learned that asking his community for help doesn't mean he's dodging responsibility. Ironic, since Oscillatrix is a huge hit amongst his siblings, and she'd be happy to babysit, if only he asked... -------- Happy dad!
