~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
ACT ONE
FADE IN:
EXT. MEGAKAT SWAMP - NIGHT
Four escaped CONVICTS are splashing through the dismal swamp. DRAKE, the obvious leader of the tough-looking cons, is in front while his three companions bring up the rear.
DRAKE
No way those guards are gonna find us in here.
The water gets gradually thicker and slimier as the group heads deeper into the swamp. The further they proceed the less leaves there are on the trees, and the larger, more deformed, gnarled and twisted they become. The escaped prisoners have entered...
EXT. THE DEAD FOREST - NIGHT
The heart of the swamp, a polluted, sludgy, nearly lifeless area with huge trees rising up out of the fetid water like skyscrapers. From the largest, most twisted tree of all, the convicts see a light shining through what appears to be a window.
CONVICT #1
There's a light.
The convicts sneak towards the tree.
DRAKE
We'll steal a boat, some food and some money... assuming the weirdo who lives here has any.
As they pass by some of the smaller trees, each con breaks off a large, thick branch to use as a cudgel. A THREE-EYED SNAKE slithers down from an overhead branch and hisses at them. Convict #1 grabs the multi-eyed reptile by the neck and flings it away. It lands with a splash and swims off.
CONVICT #1
What the heck was that? This place gives me the creeps...
DRAKE
Shut up!
The foursome sneak closer to the big tree and enter by way of a ladder hanging down the side.
INT. SWAMP LAIR - LAB
The convicts enter a weird-looking lab in the center of the tree (see "The Giant Bacteria"). The light is coming from some bubbling chemical beakers on a worktable.
CONVICT #2
What is this place?
DRAKE
I don't know, but we'll steal what we can, then leave.
Exploring, Drake finds a locked door.
DRAKE
Must be something valuable in here.
He wrenches the rickety door open with a powerful tug.
INT. SWAMP LAIR - SIDE ROOM
A pale beam of light illuminates a darkened corner of the room. A figure lies on a cot, his head and arms hidden from view. Drake grins, hitting his branch in his palm. The other convicts enter behind him.
DRAKE
This guy won't be giving us any trouble.
Walking over, he reaches out and grabs the slumbering figure's shoulder, then reacts as he sees the kat's face is bandaged.
DRAKE
(gasps)
What the--?
Suddenly, the bandaged kat's hands reach up. They're not hands... they're insect claws! With one sharp swipe, he rips the bandages off, revealing the heavily scarred face of DR. HARLEY STREET! With a snap of his mandibles, he bites Drake's hand. He drops the tree branch and yelps in pain, falling to the floor. Convict #1 tries to whap Street with his branch, but the former MASA scientist grabs it and snaps it in half and then bites the con's shoulder. Convict #1 collapses as Convicts #2 and #3 turn and flee from the room.
INT. SWAMP LAIR - LAB
The convicts are rushing across the room when they encounter none other than DR. VIPER! Chuckling, Viper swings his tail and smashes Convict #2 into the wall. He is knocked out. Viper grabs the last remaining con in his tail as the captive kat watches with horror through the open door as his two bitten comrades rise from the floor with bug eyes! They've become Ci-Kat-A!
VIPER
I sssee you've gotten your appetite back, Dr. Ssstreet!
CONVICT #3
W-What's going on?
The screen WAVES as we ENTER FLASHBACK:
INT. MEGAKAT TOWER - PENTHOUSE
An unscarred Dr. Street is chasing after CALLIE BRIGGS in the egg-filled penthouse of the Megakat Tower, transformed into the new nest for the Ci-Kat-A queen.
STREET
(V.O.)
We Ci-Kat-A would've taken over the world if it wasn't for those meddling SWAT Kats!
The flashback Street pins Callie to the floor. She hits him with her briefcase, but he recovers and smacks it away, grabbing her neck with both hands, forcibly tilting her head up and back, exposing her tender throat.
FLASHBACK STREET
I want you on our side! One bit and you will be!
FLASHBACK RAZOR
(offscreen)
Bite THIS!
Pausing as he's about to bite Callie's throat, Street looks up to see the Turbokat hovering outside the window. Before he can react, an Octopus Missile smashes through the glass, the tip opening, the eight-armed metal claw grabbing the unprepared scientist's face tightly, cutting into his flesh. He grunts in pain as he's propelled backwards, off of Callie, and sails across the penthouse...
EXT. MEGAKAT TOWER - DAY
...to crash through the window on the opposite side of the room! He tumbles uncontrollably down and down towards the street far below. He hits the pavement hard and lies there unmoving. The broken apart Octopus Missile lies beside him. After a moment, he recovers and escapes unseen down a storm drain.
VIPER
(V.O.)
I found him in the ssswamp and nursssed him back to health.
EXT. MEGAKAT SWAMP - DAY
Flashback Viper aids the injured flashback Street through the muck of the swamp towards the Dead Forest in the distance.
The screen WAVES as we RETURN TO THE PRESENT:
Viper grins evilly at the two normal cons. The one he knocked into the wall has recovered and sat up.
VIPER
You sssee, the Ci-Kat-A and I have a lot in common. We both hate the SWAT Katsss... and we both want to dessstroy Megakat City. And you're going to help usss do both!
The terrified convicts react, panicked, as Street advances towards them, mandibles snapping.
EXT. DEAD FOREST - NIGHT
We hear the cons' screams echo through the swamp, startling a heron.
EXT. SALVAGE YARD - DAY
We pan down from the bright afternoon sky to a familiar shot of the salvage yard. Or so it seems at first. As we zoom in, we see that part of it has been converted into a sort of thrown together obstacle course. The normally rugged dirt ground has been smoothed into a path that snakes its way around the various junk piles. A various points on the makeshift track there are enormous age-pitted, weather-beaten concrete dividers and thin piles of dirt, some with ramps made from plywood boards, some without, and tunnels made using whatever happened to be hand.
Suddenly CHANCE FURLONG zooms into view on rollerblades, followed by JAKE CLAWSON, right on his heels. Both of them are stripped to the waist in the hot afternoon sun, and aside from sticker-covered rollerblading helmets, elbow pads and kneepads, the two are in naught but small shorts: Chance has on his workout shorts (from "The Ghost Pilot") while Jake is wearing his trunks (from "Volcanus Erupts!").
The duo come literally flying into view, sailing through the air, having ramped off one of the plywood boards. Chance, we see, is in the lead. Landing, he slaloms around some strategically-placed obstacles consisting of random junk, giving a big yell. Jake lands behind him and just as expertly navigates the obstacles.
CHANCE
(yelling)
Yaaaaahhh!
JAKE
Woo-hoooo!
Chance and Jake are pushing ahead, as usual forcing themselves to their personal limits in an attempt to outdo one another.
CHANCE
(panting, but still bristling with stamina)
These new Turbo Rollerblades are radical, buddy!
JAKE
(also panting, but showing no signs of tiring)
Yeah, they're gonna give me one more way to beat your tail!
Chance glances behind himself for a moment in disbelief. Did he hear correctly? He sees the shirtless Jake smirking as he gains on him, closing the distance. Unconcerned, he turns his head back around; gotta keep his eyes on where he's going. They're coming up on a concrete divider laying across the track. He hunkers down. Behind him, so does Jake.
CHANCE
Dream on, buddy!
Still hunkering down, he zooms around some empty, rusty oil drums, and, as he reaches the divider, his leg muscles strain and he launches himself through the air, sailing over the obstacle, graceful despite his bulk in comparison to his partner, who, after swinging 'round the metal drums, doesn't need to squat so low to gain the height necessary to clear the divider; his leg muscles tense and he shoots into the air like a coiled spring.
Still airborne, he flies towards Chance. It seems, for an instant, that Jake will hit Chance, but instead the smaller, thinner kat grabs Chance's shoulders and swings his legs up, effectively using his own momentum plus pushing down on Chance's shoulders to clear his opponent entirely, landing gracefully a few feet in front of him, now in the lead. He grins and gives a thumbs-up back to a surprised, seething Chance.
JAKE
I like this dream!
Chance and Jake come up to a tunnel made from a hollowed out 747 engine. Arms behind his back, graceful as a figure skater, Jake navigates the tunnel with his eyes closed, zooming around the cylinder, from the bottom, to the sides, over the ceiling, then down the other side without even trying. Seeing this makes Chance angry. He zooms through the engine without any fancy stunts, too mad to show off.
CHANCE
Crud! Let's see what these things can really do!
We see that each of them has a small remote control device in their hand, and he presses the button on his, causing miniature little rocket boosters to pop out of the sides. They ignite, and, with a burst of sudden speed, Chance rockets forwards. He'd lose his helmet if it weren't strapped firmly to his head, not that it doesn't made a valiant attempt to free itself at the sudden, shocking speed at which its wearer is now traveling, the chinstrap stretching cartoonishly, helmet being tugged along behind. He blasts past a startled Jake in a blur, trailing dust from his rollerblades... and smoke, Jake notices with some alarm.
The rollerblades' wheels are spinning rapidly. Too rapidly. They're overheating and the friction, even against the dirt, is chiseling them down to little nubs. Chance's triumph turns to sudden worry as he wobbles uncontrollably.
JAKE
(yelling after him)
Chance! Slow down!
CHANCE
(screaming)
I caaaaaaaaaaaaaan't!
He 'rounds the corner of an obstacle, having gone the entire circuit, and actually sails wildly out of control off of the track, trailing fire. He heads flailing towards an old station wagon. He leaps up, in an effort to clear the car, but doesn't quite make it; his butt bounces off the hood, jostling the cooler. Propelled up by the impact, he somersaults through the air, to land feet first on the rough dirt, smashing both the wheels of his rollerblades and the little rocket thrusters, skate-clad feet sinking into the earth. No longer propelled by anything except his own momentum, Chance leaves skid trenches before coming to something resembling a gentle stop banging against the closed passenger door of a dump truck.
CHANCE
(weakly)
Ow...
Jake skates up.
JAKE
Chance!
He skates over to his buddy as Chance extracts his feet from the long trenches he's left in the dirt. Upon extracting his feet, he realizes they're smoking because the rollerblade engines have overheated. The friction has completely annihilated the rollerblades - and his socks! - leaving him barefoot. And his soles are blazing red and smoking.
CHANCE
Yeeeooooooooowwwww!
Hopping up and down like a man walking hot coals, he struggles with the ruined remains of the rollerblades and finally gets them off, then runs over towards an Igloo-type barrel. It has a ladle and is used for drinking water. He dunks both feet into the water, his eyes rolled back into his head in pure ecstasy and relief as smoke and steam rises up from inside the cooler.
CHANCE
(relieved)
Aaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh....
Jake isn't amused.
JAKE
Hey, that's our drinking water, Chance!
Chance, relieved and soaking his feet, ignores this remark as steam rises from the cooler.
CHANCE
You gotta reinforce those wheels, buddy. I'm too fast for 'em.
He smirks and removes his bare feet.
EXT. MEGAKAT BIOCHEMICAL LABS - NIGHT
Establishing shot of the lab building.
INT. MEGAKAT BIOCHEMICAL LABS - LOBBY
Security guard EMIL sits at the front desk, reading a Kat Kommando comic book. The cover shows some bug-eyed insects. Suddenly, he hears a buzzing sound and looks up, puzzled... then reacts as a small fly goes by. He grins and relaxes, going back to his comic book, only to hear louder buzzing as several shadowy figures leap in from offscreen. Emil whirls to discover the bug-eyed cons, still wearing their prison uniforms and well along into their transformation as Ci-Kat-A.
He reaches for his holstered laser pistol. The cons spew webbing from their mouths, hitting the guard and propelling him backwards. He's glued to the wall and left squirming. Buzzing, the cons head to the elevator, followed by the newly arrived Dr. Street.
INT. MEGAKAT BIOCHEMICAL LABS - HALLWAY
Street and the cons approach a doorway marked "Top Secret Lab." Growling, the Ci-Kat-A quickly rip open the door, flinging it aside. Street enters the room beyond followed by his fellow converted kats as we pan up to a blinking red light above the doorway. A silent alarm. We cut to:
EXT. MEGAKAT CITY - NIGHT
An Enforcer chopper flies along. Inside is LIEUTENANT FELINA FERAL and her new partner, SERGEANT GRAY TAYLOR, a cocky hotshot just of the Enforcer Academy. Something on the console in front of them beeps.
FELINA
Silent alarm at Megakat Biochemical. Step on it, Taylor!
TAYLOR
(grinning)
That's what I do best!
The chopper whooshes around some buildings, almost smashing into the Kat's Eye News Chopper. Inside, ANN GORA, JONNY K. and AL the pilot react. So does Felina. As the two helicopters zoom past one another, Felina turns and looks at the overconfident Sergeant Taylor.
FELINA
Is that how they taught you to fly at the Academy, rookie?
Taylor grins again.
TAYLOR
Nah, my grandpa was a cropduster pilot.
FELINA
Yeah, well, you just set a fresh crop of reporters on our tails.
She points backwards. The news chopper is now following them.
TAYLOR
Don't sweat it. I'll ditch 'em.
He zooms between two buildings, seemingly losing the pursuing news team. Felina shakes her head, wondering how this hotdog graduated first in his class.
FELINA
Stop showing off and get us there, Taylor!
The chopper zooms onwards throgh the nighttime city towards Megakat Biochemical in the distance.
INT. MEGAKAT BIOCHEMICAL LABS - TOP SECRET LAB
Rows of bubbling Erlenmeyer flasks containing orange liquid (katalysts) line the shelves. A clawed hand moves over them. We pull back to see Dr. Street is the one searching. Two of the four converted convicts - Drake and Convict #1 - linger behind him, the smashed open lab door in the background. We don't know where the other two are. Street's finger lights on a flask labeled "Super-Katalyst 566" and he gives a mandible grin.
STREET
This is what Dr. Viper sent us for.
Suddenly:
FELINA
(offscreen)
Hold it right there!
Street whirls, as do his companions, to see Felina and Taylor in the doorway, weapons drawn. They react to Street and the others, as neither of them has ever encountered Ci-Kat-A before.
FELINA
What the...?
Grabbing the flask of Super-Katalyst 566, Street gives a commanding buzz. The remaining two cons (#2 and #3) have been clinging to the ceiling like roaches the entire time! They drop down onto Felina and Taylor. The Enforcers manage to flip the Ci-Kat-A off of themselves, though Taylor's flight suit is torn by the mandibles of Convict #2. It isn't immediately clear that it broke the skin, though. Nor do he or Felina know of the significance of a Ci-Kat-A bite. The two get up.
FELINA
(concerned)
You okay?
TAYLOR
Just a scratch.
He raises his laser pistol.
TAYLOR
I'm gonna zap these bugs!
FELINA
Hold your fire! You could blow up the whole lab!
She indicates all the flasks, beakers, drums and other containers filled with no doubt volatile and highly flammable chemicals. Taylor hesitates. Felina swings into a karate move to smack Convict #2 into the glass window of the lab. His bug-eyed face presses hideously against it as we cut outside to see:
EXT. MEGAKAT BIOCHEMICAL LABS - NIGHT
The Kat's Eye News chopper is hovering just outside the window. Al managed to catch up to the Enforcers after all. He keeps the aircraft steady as Jonny films out the open side door as the bug-eyed convict slowly slides down the glass inside the lab and Ann talks into her microphone.
ANN
This is Ann Gora, Kat's Eye News, live at Megakat Biochemical where the Enforcers are engaged in a fight with...
As she speaks, we cut to:
INT. GARAGE - LIVING ROOM
A welding mask covering his face, Jake is soldering new rollerblades onto Chance's skates. Flipping the mask up, he and Chance, who is standing nearby, then react to the images on TV. They see the unmistakable compound eyes of the converted convict as he slides down the glass.
ANN
(on TV, continued)
...what appear to be giant Ci-Kat-A!
Chance shudders.
CHANCE
Crud! I thought we'd eliminated that bug problem!
Jake drops what he's doing, turning the soldering tool off and setting both it and the metal mask aside, looking grim and determined.
JAKE
Looks like the bug infestation ain't over, buddy!
The duo jump up and run offscreen.
INT. HANGAR - MAIN AREA
Quick suiting up shots. Gloves on. Zipping up suits. Helmets on. They're T-Bone and Razor now!
EXT. SALVAGE YARD - NIGHT
The Turbokat roars out of the secret hangar.
INT. MEGAKAT BICHEMICAL LABS - TOP SECRET LAB
The villains have the upper hand. A disarmed Felina is in the grip of the converted Drake. His mandibles come close as she grabs a nearby microscope and clobbers the Ci-Kat-A with it. The creature staggers away, smashing Felina with his flailing clawed hand. She crashes into one of the shelves of volatile chemicals before falling to the floor alongside an equally prone and unarmed Sergeant Taylor. Several of the containers topple and crash. There's lots of smoke and fumes. Still holding the flask of Katalyst 566, Street walks over and pulls the heavy shelf down on top of the two Enforcers, pinning them.
Street looks down at them as the recovered cons come up behind him. Drake and Convict #2 - who got smacked into the window - are rubbing their heads in irritation. Behind them, we can see the huge windows of the room, the news chopper hovering a safe distance outside. Though it's easy to miss, we see a dark form rocket above the hovering chopper and over the top of the building with a muffled sonic boom.
Felina and Taylor struggle, but they're trapped under the shelf.
STREET
(menacing)
You'll be joining us, Enforcers.
Behind the group, two silhouetted forms wearing backpacks suddenly swing down in front of the news chopper on what appear to be bungee cords outside the window. It's the SWAT Kats! The packs on their backs are their Delta Bak-Paks. Pointing their Glovatrixes, they shoot Mini-Turbo Blades.
RAZOR
Launching Mini-Turbo Blades!
The four blades crash an opening through the armored glass as they swing into the lab. The rotor wash of the Kat's Eye News chopper whips shards of glass around them dramatically as the startled Ci-Kat-A spin, buzzing in surprise and anger.
STREET
SWAT Kats!
The vigilantes stand erect. Behind them, Al banks the news chopper away, intent on flying away to a safer distance. Assuming an action stance, T-Bone aims his Glovatrix at the villains.
T-BONE
Surprised to see us, bug-eyes?
STREET
(grinning)
We have unfinished business to settle!
He opens his mouth. A deluge of sticky cocoon gunk comes spewing out. T-Bone yelps as the stuff covers him, pinning him to the floor. Still holding the crucial flask, he advances on the trapped SWAT Kat, mandibles snapping. Razor leaps over.
RAZOR
Hyaaah!
He kicks Street away. The former MASA scientist yells and thuds to the floor, managing to keep hold of the flask. Razor, kneeling, uses his claws to rip through the cocoon, freeing T-Bone, who is thoroughly displeased.
T-BONE
I hate this crud!
Suddenly his eyes widen at something offscreen. Razor turns to see Drake and Convict #3 are bending over the captive Enforcers and about to bite them. Getting up, the SWAT Kats race over and tackle the unprepared Ci-Kat-A away from their intended victims, then pull the shelf off of the Enforcers, who are grateful.
Grabbing the shelf, T-Bone and Razor swing it around at Convict #1 and Convict #2. However, they grab it in their clawed hands and bite through it with their powerful mandibles as if it were tinfoil. The snapping mandibles just barely miss the SWAT Kats' fingers! Releasing the chewed up shelf, the SWAT Kats back up and aim their Glovatrixes. They fire some miniature "basic" explosive missiles at the two as they fling the dented and chewed up shelf away. Those explode on and around the cons, who screech and leap out the smashed window to escape, wings erupting from the backs of their prison-issue shirts.
Flanked by the other two Ci-Kat-A, who have recovered, Dr. Street grabs a beaker labeled "High Explosive" with his free hand and flings it at the SWAT Kats. It explodes near the duo. They go flying backwards, smacking into Felina and Taylor, who have just recovered their dropped guns. All four crash to the ground.
Satisfied, Street goes to the window and unfurls his wings, flying out. The SWAT Kats and the Enforcers get up. Activating their Delta Bak-Paks, the SWAT Kats whoosh out the window after the Ci-Kat-A. Felina and Taylor shoot at the remaining Ci-Kat-A (Drake and Convict #3), who scramble away, running out the door. Felina runs to the window.
FELINA
(yelling after the SWAT Kats)
Don't let him get away!
EXT. MEGAKAT BIOCHEMICAL LABS - MORNING
The sky is a little lighter now. Morning has come and the sun is rising. The SWAT Kats race after the escaping Street and the other two Ci-Kat-A (#1 and #2).
T-BONE
(yelling back)
Don't worry, Lieutenant! We'll hold him for you!
As they fly off after the escaping Ci-Kat-A, the Kat's Eye News chopper follows at a safe distance.
EXT. MEGAKAT CITY - MORNING
Several Enforcer choppers arriving as backup appear, swooping down in an effort to block Street's path. Undaunted, he spews thick gunk, gumming up their rotors. They veer off, engines whining in protest. Satisfied, Street continues on with his two companions.
EXT. WAREHOUSE - MORNING
A deserted warehouse that's seen better days. Dr. Viper waits on the roof as the three Ci-Kat-A swoop down towards him. They land and Street hands Viper the flask of Katalyst 566, which he accepts, eyes aglow. Arriving on the scene, the Kat's Eye News chopper visible in the distance behind them, the SWAT Kats react to seeing their old enemy on the roof with the bug-eyed villains.
RAZOR
Dr. Viper! So that's why the Ci-Kat-A were stealing katalysts!
T-Bone nods.
T-BONE
Well, whaddaya know. Bug-Eyes and Snake-Eyes are a slimeball team!
RAZOR
Let's capture these doctors of doom!
As they fly towards the warehouse, the SWAT Kats take aim with their Glovatrixes.
RAZOR
Launching Mini-Spider Missiles!
Miniature versions of the Spider Missiles ("The Pastmaster Always Rings Twice") shoot out and unfurl into their netted webbing, as though to ensnare the four villains on the rooftop. Dr. Viper looks unimpressed, smirking and raising his right arm.
VIPER
I don't think ssso, SWAT Katsss!
He launches from acid glop from underneath his fingernails, a trait he has retained from his giant monster form ("Mutation City"). It sails through the air and melts the incoming missiles. T-Bone and Razor have to dodge the deadly stuff to avoid being melted themselves. While they're distracted dodging the acid, a determined Dr. Street leaps off the roof and flies towards them. Viper and the other two Ci-Kat-A remain on the roof.
STREET
I've waited a long time for this, SWAT Kats!
He flies up behind the two and vomits his cocoon slime at their backs. Their Delta Bak-Pak intakes are covered with the glop and the engines sputter. Crying out, the SWAT Kats drop like stones and begin falling to their doom! They glance down, watching the street rushing up to meet them...
FADE OUT
ACT TWO
FADE IN:
EXT. WAREHOUSE - MORNING
T-Bone and Razor are falling to their deaths on the streets of Megakat City far below, observed by a cackling Dr. Street. The Ci-Kat-A leader hovers in midair, wings buzzing, fists clenched excitedly. On the rooftop of the warehouse behind him, Dr. Viper and Convicts #1 and #2 are also watching, the sun rising behind them. Nearby, the Kat's Eye News team also observes helplessly from their hovering chopper.
On the roof, Viper laughs and slithers towards the stairwall door. The two converted convicts neither notice nor care, so fixated are they on watching the SWAT Kats plummet. At a signal from their leader, they take to the air and join him in flying away into the darkness.
The SWAT Kats continue falling. Suddenly, they react to the sound of approaching helicopter rotors and an Enforcer chopper swoops in from overheard, followed by the Kat's Eye News one. T-Bone and Razor point their Glovatrixes upwards and launch grappling cables. They clang onto the chopper's undercarriage. The two begin climbing upwards.
Inside, Felina is at the open side door watching the two climbing up towards her. Gray Taylor is flying. The craft pitches and yaws a bit.
FELINA
Keep the controls steady!
There's no response. She turns and looks up front. Taylor's back is to her, shoulders shivering, his trembling hands gripping the controls. She notices where his flight suit was torn by the Ci-Kat-A's mandibles earlier and her eyes narrow. Suddenly, Taylor turns in his seat and we see he has the green compound eyes of a kat in the first changes of his transformation into an alien bug! He growls, baring his teeth.
Felina edges away as Taylor rises from his seat, leaving nobody flying the chopper. As he grabs at her, she turns and half jumps, half falls out the side door. As she plummets, she's grabbed out of the air by T-Bone, who slips an arm around her waist. Now the trio are hanging by the cables as the pilotless helicopter zooms over the rooftops, making a beeline for the city limits. A grinning Taylor leans out, laughing down at his helpless former friends.
The chopper continues zooming ahead. Drawing his gun, Taylor shoots at the cables, severing them. He cackles as the SWAT Kats and Felina drop!
RAZOR
Max Bak-Pak thrusters, T-Bone! Maybe we can blow that glop out of our intakes!
The duo hit their controls in freefall. With a whoosh, the Bak-Paks re-ignite, blowing Street's vomitous gunk free from the intakes, allowing the trio to avoid hitting the ground. Observing this, the converted Taylor is enraged. He clambers back behind the controls, regaining control of the chopper.
EXT. MEGAKAT SWAMP - MORNING
As the SWAT Kats, T-Bone carrying Felina, continue flying towards the edge of town, passing over more rustic and residential-looking areas, the edge of Megakat Swamp looming, Taylor's chopper zooms towards them, the side-mounted laser guns blasting. Turning, the SWAT Kats take aim with their Glovatrixes.
RAZOR
Launch Mini-Buzzsaw Blades!
The spinning serrated blades come flying out of their Glovatrixes and fly up towards Taylor's craft. They saw through the chopper rotor section, severing it off the top of the aircraft. Taylor reacts, surprised, his chopper swooping over the treetops to crash in the far side of the swamp with a mushy splash.
By now, the SWAT Kats are running out of fuel for their Delta Bak-Paks. Noticing the Kat's Eye News chopper, which has been following the chase since Megakat Biochemical Labs, they fly over towards it, getting in through the open side door to be in back with Jonny. Ann and Al (who is flying) are up front. Jonny films the three new arrivals.
T-BONE
Mind if we hitch a ride?
ANN
In exchange for an exclusive? You've got it! What happened at Megakat Biochemical Labs? What did the Ci-Kat-A want?
RAZOR
They're working with Dr. Viper... and that only mean trouble.
EXT. THE DEAD FOREST - NIGHT
Establishing shot of Dr. Viper's tree lair looming against the night sky.
INT. SWAMP LAIR - LAB
Closeup on a bubbling beaker. We pull back to reveal that Dr. Viper is mixing up a nasty-looking formula using the stolen Super-Katalyst 566 (the empty flask sits nearby). Behind him stand Dr. Harley Street and his Ci-Kat-A "crew." There's now six of them. Gray Taylor, still in his torn Enforcer uniform, is with them, though he isn't as far along in his transformation into a fully-fledged Ci-Kat-A as the others yet.
VIPER
My formula isss complete. Sssoon Megakat City will be dessstroyed... and reborn as Viper City!
Dr. Street shakes his head, getting angry.
STREET
I've repaid my debt, Viper, by bringing you that katalyst. Now you're supposed to help me and my fellow Ci-Kat-A to rule the world.
Viper's eyes glow with fury.
VIPER
Let'sss get one thing clear, Dr. Ssstreet... you bugsss are working for me!
Before Street or the others can react, Viper grabs a beaker of something from the table and throws it into their midst. It smashes and explodes with billowing green gas. The startled Ci-Kat-A begin to feel woozy. One by one, Taylor and the convicts begin collapsing, coughing. Street staggers but remains standing, fighting off unconsciousness.
VIPER
Pleasant dreamsss! When you awaken, you will have metamorphosssized into a whole new being!
From Street's blurry P.O.V., we Dr. Viper slinking towards him, holding an eyedropper of the formula he just got done mixing up using the stolen katalyst. The screen goes black to indicate that Street has finally lost consciousness.
EXT. SALVAGE YARD - DAY
Closeup on the spinning wheels of Chance's repaired rollerblades. Pull back to show him stripped to the waist zooming along down the homemade obstacle course from before. Jake, leaning against the old station wagon, is also shirtless and pointing a radar gun at him. It beeps and he looks down at the digital readout.
JAKE
(excited)
120 miles per hour, buddy!
Chance completes the circuit of the course.
CHANCE
Yeah, and these blades ain't burnin' up! You did it, pal!
He tries to stop, but as before he's going too fast and rockets past where Jake stands with the radar gun. Uncontrollably, he slams into the garage wall, bouncing backwards and landing in the dirt. He lies there, groaning as Jake, tossing the radar gun aside, comes up, looking concerned.
CHANCE
(weakly)
Ow...
(pants a bit)
Now you just have to work on the brakes.
Noticing some red ants crawling around and on him, he suffers a mild freakout and sits bolt upright, but, composing himself, calms down with a sigh and brushes the irritating insects off of himself.
CHANCE
Darn bugs.
Kneeling beside him, Jake frowns.
JAKE
Speaking of bugs. I'm getting a little worried. There's been no sign of Dr. Street since he and Viper disappeared weeks ago.
He helps Chance stand. Chance leans against the wall, frowning at him.
JAKE
Those two slimeballs have gotta be hatching something nasty.
FADE TO:
INT. SWAMP LAIR - LAB
A gleeful-looking Dr. Viper rubs his hands together as he looks at six enormous cocoons hanging from the walls and ceiling, dribbling slime onto the floor and pulsating slowly. Five of them are whitish, while the sixth is far darker, almost black. They start to slowly crack open. Viper watches happily as the "new" insects hatch themselves from the cocoons, spewing slime and other gunk. Street, who emerges from the dark one, has been turned into a black, armored beetle similar in appearance to a scarab. Taylor and the other four had become ten-foot, armored white wormlike grubs. The six monsters crawl over to their creator who regards them with barely-contained joy.
VIPER
Excellent. I have mutated you into perfect bugs for digging, Dr. Ssstreet. You and the armored larvae will now execute my plan... to totally contaminate Megakat City, turning it into a nuclear wasssteland!
He grins, pointing at them, the scarab in particular.
VIPER
(smug)
You have no choice. I have genetically altered you insssects so you obey no one but me! Now go!
He turns his pointing finger towards a drainage tunnel. The six insects heave themselves into it, Viper following on foot.
INT. SUBWAY - TUNNEL
A subway train shoots through the tunnel (see "The Giant Bacteria"). It's fast approaching the camera, its single front light glowing brighter and brighter. Through the front viewport, we can see the MOTORMAN in the driver's cabin. Along the left-hand wall (screen right) of the train as it gets closer, we see huges cracks forming; chunks of concrete and earth begin falling inwards, spilling over the tracks.
INT. SUBYWAY TRAIN - FIRST CAR
The motorman reacts with a gasp. From his P.O.V., we see the wall caving inwards. His hand grabs and pulls on the brake switch. In the car behind him, various PASSENGERS scream as they're thrown forwards by the sudden jolt.
INT. SUBWAY - TUNNEL
The train screeches to a halt a few feet from the crumbling rubble as it continues falling inwards, as though threatening to fill the tunnel. After a moment, the kats in the train gasp and scream as the giant scrarab, the one doing the digging, emerges into view. Dr. Viper emerges after him. The scarab gives the train a cursory glance, then plows into the opposite wall and begins digging, ignoring the train.
Viper stands on the tracks as the grub worms slither out of the hole the scarab dug and crawl past him, following the huge beetle as it digs further into the opposite wall. The evil scientist turns his glowing eyes towards the train, considers it a moment, then gives a dismissive gesture before walking alongside the next to last grub and heading towards the new hole dug by the scarab. The final grub in the line stops and turns, and promptly pukes acidic glop at the stopped train.
INT. SUBWAY TRAIN - FIRST CAR
The somewhat see-through gunk hits the windshield. The motorman recoils in horror and disgust. Then the glass cracks! The window frame warps. Glass, plastic and metal begin melting rapidly as the grub's acid spit eats through it. Screaming, the motorman flings open the door of the driver's cabin as it, and the entire front end of the train, sags and melts around him. He barely makes it. He and his passengers back away as a group, pressing themselves against the rear wall of the train car (we can see OTHER PASSENGERS in the second car looking through the door window behind the group, wondering what's going on).
Fortunately for those aboard the train, the acid's potency is limited and it only melts the front of the train. The only one in any real danger was the motorman, and he managed to scramble to safety. He and the others watch in stunned silence as the grub now ignores them completely, turns and crawls through the newly dug hole on the opposite side of the tunnel. The startled motorman and passengers watch the thing depart, scared but okay and gasping in relief.
EXT. MEGAKAT CITY - DAY
Shot of the city, looking perfectly ordinary and peaceful.
EXT. CITY STREET - DAY
Various CITIZENS go about their daily routines. People walk along the sidewalk, cars drive along the street, etc. There's something of a minor traffic jam in one lane; an angry luxury car DRIVER is arguing with the LITTLE OLD LADY Chance and Jake often tow about who had the right of way when the two cars collided, denting both bumpers.
A tired-looking ENFORCER SERGEANT is scribbling in his little notebook while a TOW TRUCK DRIVER backs up (with a "Beep beep beep!") but stops irresolutely in front of the luxury car, unsure if either vehicle needs towing and visibly waiting for the sergeant's instructions. The sergeant's Enforcer cruiser is parked nearby.
Nearby, some other people are buying food from a HOT DOG VENDOR's cart, eating their hot dogs and watching the argument.
ANGRY DRIVER
(shouting)
Admit, you old bag! I had the right of way!
LITTLE OLD LADY
(also shouting)
No, way, sonny! I did!
The sergeant throws up his hands in exasperation.
ENFORCER SERGEANT
All right, that's it! Both of you knock it off before I take in for disorderly conduct and disturbing the peace.
They look at him like he's nuts. Pocketing his notebook, he takes out his ticket book and prepares to write both drivers up. The tow truck driver starts getting out of his vehicle.
ENFORCER SERGEANT
You're both gettin' tickets, because--
He's cut off as the ground begins shaking. Windows shatter. Car alarms go off. Everyone stops what they're doing and turns to watch as, incredibly, the skyscrapers further down the street begin to sway, shudder and creak... and then collapse inwards, falling into the ground, leaving massive sinkholes.
Dropping his ticket book, the Enforcer sergeant runs to his cruiser, reaching in through the open side door. He grabs a radio.
ENFORCER SERGEANT
(into the radio)
Attention, dispatch! This is Unit 45! I've got a big problem!
ENFORCER DISPATCHER
(through the radio)
Go ahead, Unit 45.
ENFORCER SERGEANT
(into the radio)
The--The buildings! They're... sinking!
More buildings collapse and sink into the earth. There's an awkward pause as the dispatcher processes this information. Suddenly, the street begins to collapse into the ground, greating a huge crack in the ground, into which several of the jammed up cars fall, alarms still blaring. The tow truck driver finishes getting out of his truck and runs off as the sergeant and the two angry drivers involved in the accident watch, wide-eyed, the radio still in the sergeant's hand.
ENFORCER DISPATCHER
(through the radio)
Say again, 45, they're what...?!
ENFORCER SERGEANT
(into the radio)
They're--
(gasps)
Aaaagghhh!!!
He sees the crack racing towards where he and the others are. He drops the radio and bolts. The luxury car owner grabs the old lady's arm and pulls her along with him as he runs after the fleeing Enforcer. The three hurry off in the direction the tow truck driver went as all four of their vehicles - the tow truck, the Enforcer cruiser, the luxury car and the oldy lady's car - fall into the depths of the newly created abyss, from which the giant scarab and the grum worms emerge, roaring menacingly. Other people begin screaming and running away.
The giant bugs are all now fully on the surface. Dr. Viper emerges into view last of all, smirking as he admires his monsters' handiwork, and immensely enjoying their ensuing rampage as they head towards the nuclear power plant in the distance.
VIPER
To the nuclear power plant! Dessstroy anything that getsss in your way, my creationsss!
INT. ENFORCER HEADQUARTERS - FERAL'S OFFICE
COMMANDER FERAL is sitting at his desk, coat off, doing some paperwork when he feels the entire building shudder as it from an earthquake. He frowns, pen in hand, and is reaching for the phone when it rings. He answers it.
FERAL
(into the phone)
Feral here.
(surprised)
What?!
Slamming the receiver down, he grabs his greatcoat and runs from the room as alarms begin blaring.
EXT. ENFORCER HEADQUARTERS - RUNWAY
Jets and choppers sit lined up in rows along the elevated runway. A squadron of the latter are sitting with their engines running, rotor blades turning. A determined-looking Felina is sitting in the lead one with an ENFORCER PILOT in the gunner's seat beside her. Her chopper lifts off the runway and is followed by the others (there are at least ten in all).
EXT. ENFORCER HEADQUARTERS - DAY
The front entrance. Commander Feral, wearing his greatcoat, comes running out the front down and hurries down the steps to his waiting cruiser. He jumps in and speeds off, siren wailing. More cruisers swing into view from the back parking lot behind the building and follow the Commander's car.
EXT. CITY STREET - DAY
The huge insects amble down the street, leaving destruction in their wake. Looking fiendishly delighted, Dr. Viper follows along, occasionally directing their actions. Frightened citizens flee before the monsters' onslaught.
Overhead flies the Kat's Eye News chopper. Riding in back with Jonny, who is filming out the open door, Ann Gora talks into her microphone as she surveys the chaos below.
ANN
This is Ann Gora, Kat's Eye News, coming to you live from a new story developing in downtown Megakat City! Gigantic insect monsters have tunneled up from beneath the earth and are currently on a direct collision course with the Megakat Nuclear Plant!
She glances to her right as she sees something.
ANN
The Enforcers are arriving on the scene now!
Jonny turns his camera that way as Enforcer cruisers, led by Feral's, come speeding up the street and screech to a halt. Trundling Peacekeeper tanks arrive a little slower and stop behind them. The Enforcers in the cruisers exit their vehicles.
INT. GARAGE - LIVING ROOM
Chance and Jake are taking a break from working on the turbo rollerblades and watching TV. Onscreen, they can see the destruction being wrought by the attacking bugs. They react, looking surprised, then worried, then angry.
CHANCE
What the--?!
(realizing)
Oh, eeew! Not more giant bugs!
He palms his face.
JAKE
Yeah, and look who's runnin' the show down there.
He points. Though the view is wobbly, he and Chance can clearly make out Dr. Viper standing in the street, directing the monsters' actions.
CHANCE
Dr. Viper again!
As though noticing the news chopper for the first time, he turns, looks up, and gives a smug smirk as he waves up at the cameraman.
JAKE
Cocky, isn't he?
CHANCE
Well, let's go wipe that smug smirk off his face and squash those bugs!
The two jump up and run offscreen.
EXT. CITY STREET - DAY
Back to the street leading towards the nuclear power plant in the distance. Several ENFORCER COMMANDOS, under Feral's direction, get the terrified citizens to safety.
FERAL
Get these people out of here now!
(into a walkie-talki)
Let 'em have it, Lieutenant!
FELINA
(through the radio)
Roger!
Glancing up, Feral watches as the chopper squadron swoops in towards the approaching bugs. They begin firing their side-mounted laser chain guns and launching missiles, all to no effect; the lasers do nothing and the missiles explode harmlessly against the creatures' armored backs, much to the watching Commander Feral's intense frustration and anger.
FERAL
Keep firing! We have to stop them from reaching the nuclear plant!
The Enforcers obey. The choppers continue their aerial assault from above, and the tanks blast away, huge laser beams flying over the heads of Feral and the assembled commandos, although it's all for nothing. They can't make even a dent in the bugs.
ENFORCER COMMANDO #1
It's no good, sir! Nothing we're throwing at those bugs is doing the least bit of damage.
FERAL
(growling)
Tell me something I don't know!
ENFORCER COMMANDO #2
Should we try bug spray...?
FERAL
That didn't work last time... but what choice do we have?
(into his walkie-talkie)
Feral to dispatch! Get someone out to the chemical factory right away! I need tanks of industrial-strength bug spray!
ENFORCER DISPATCHER
(through the radio)
Roger, Commander!
ENFORCER COMMANDO #1
(skeptical)
Why not just--
Feral glares at him.
FERAL
If you say "Leave it to the SWAT Kats," I'll--
Whoosh! There's a roar of jet engines as the Turbokat zooms past overhead. A few of the Enforcers reflexively duck.
FERAL
Speak of the devil...
Dr. Viper doesn't look worried by the SWAT Kats' arrival. Quite the opposite. He grins widely.
VIPER
Onward, my friendsss! Onward to the nuclear power plant! Nothing can ssstop me now! Not the Enforcersss... and certainly not the SWAT Katsss! Hahahaha!
In the Turbokat, T-Bone and Razor look grim and determined. Razor dons the targeting eyepiece for the cement machine gun as it descends from the jet's undercarriage. He zeroes in on Viper.
RAZOR
I've got Dr. Snake-Eyes right in my sights, T-Bone!
T-BONE
Viper? What about the--
RAZOR
Withour the Doc tellin' 'em what to do, those bugs'll just keep heading for the nuclear plant.
T-BONE
Isn't that a bad thing...?
RAZOR
At least we'll know where they are.
T-Bone sighs and shrugs. Razor takes aim at Viper. The scientist scowls at the approaching jet. Seeing the cement machine gun, he points up at the Turbokat.
VIPER
Attack! Dessstroy the SWAT Kats and their ssstupid jet!
With a roar, a grub worm rears up and spits acid at the jet right as the cement machine gun opens fire. The acid and wet globs of cement collide in mid-air. The wet cement is splattered every which way and lands on some buildings and cars. Some even hits Commander Feral. He looks annoyed, then panicky as he sees the stuff is tinged with the grub's acid. He goes to wipe it off, thinks better of it, and takes his coat off, tossing it aside just as the acid-laced cement eats through it.
The cement globs similarly melt through everything else they land on. Another volley of corrosive vomit from the monster melts the weapon itself into useless slag.
Razor growls and takes his goggles off. The now broken beyond repair cement machine gun retracts into the bomb bay.
RAZOR
Acid again! The cement machine gun's toast!
T-BONE
Great! And I suppose regular missiles ain't gonna cut it?
RAZOR
Nope. You saw how the Enforcers did with that approach.
(ponders)
Let's try something else... and this time I'm gonna target the big bugs themselves. Then we'll worry about the crazy Doc.
He lines up a barrage of different missiles (referred to as "The Works" on his control console) and launches them. A barrage consisting of Octopus Missiles, Piranha Missiles, Slicer Missiles and Shredder Missiles fly forth. Suddenly looking nervous and panicky, Dr. Viper ducks and rushes across the street as the missiles hit their targets... but do nothing but explode harmlessly against them, mainly the scarab, who roars in pained annoyance.
T-BONE
Jeez, that thing's a real-life Hard Shell!
RAZOR
They all are! All that firepower and it did nothin'!
He makes a fist and pounds it against the plexiglass of the canopy.
Below, Viper watches as the Turbokat roars by. He turns and addresses the insects.
VIPER
Back underground! We can tunnel to our dessstination! Go, go!
With its huge front legs, the scarab claws at, and into, the asphalt, sending chunks flying. It burrows into the earth beneath the street. Viper watches the five grubs follow, then rushes over and hops down in after them. The Enforcers - Feral without his greatcoat but still holding his walkie-talkie and several commandos - rush over. They fire down into the hole.
FERAL
Stop! Stop, I said!
They cease fire.
FERAL
(sighs)
They got away... and they're probably still on their original path to the Megakat Nuclear Plant!
He glares at Commando #1.
FERAL
I suppose we really shouldn't count the SWAT Kats out just yet.
(grimly determined)
But we're not out of the game yet! And I'm not letting them just handle everything while we stand around doing nothing!
Commando #1 frowns.
FERAL
(into his walkie-talkie)
Feral to all units! Fall back to the perimeter of the Megakat Nuclear Plant! Defend it at all costs, do you hear me? At all costs!
(still into the walkie-talkie)
Did you hear that, Lieutenant?
FELINA
(through the radio)
Yes, Uncle. Heading to the nuclear plant now!
The chopper squadron overhead turns and flies off towards the power plant. The assembled cruisers and tanks begin backing up and turning around, also heading in that direction. Ahead of them, more buildings shudder ominously and begin collapsing inwards, giving everyone, including the SWAT Kats watching from the circling Turbokat, a good way of tracking the monsters' movement underground from topside.
T-BONE
They went back underground!
RAZOR
Land and we'll use the Turbomole!
T-BONE
Roger!
He swoops around and then uses the wreckage-littered street as a runway, landing. The jet's nose cone stops a few inches from the hole the scarab dug. The jet's undercarriage then folds down into a ramp, and the Turbomole (from "Caverns of Horror") drives down. The drill mounted on the front end isn't activated.
T-Bone, who is driving, pauses briefly at the brink of the abyss, then drives forwards. The wall of the pit turns out to be a bit steeper than he'd anticipated and the vehicle pitches forwards violently and begins descending much more rapidly than he'd like. He and Razor, both buckled into their seats, hold on for dear life.
T-BONE
Here we go again...!
RAZOR
At least I adjusted the shock absorbers this time!
FADE OUT
ACT THREE
FADE IN:
INT. HOLE - DAY
The Turbomole careens wildly down the steep incline, the spiked treads churning up tons of rock, dirt and other debris. The SWAT Kats yell all the way down. We linger on the hole (seen from below, looking up and out of it). The Kat's Eye News chopper zooms by overhead.
INT. UNDERGROUND - TUNNEL
A huge tunnel dug by the mutated bugs. There's an enormous hole in the ceiling. The Turbomole comes half falling, half flying out of it and lands nose-first, the drill puncturing the ground. Rocks, pebbles, chunks of concrete and dirt clods rain down, pelting the vehicle exterior noisily as T-Bone and Razor sit unmoving with gritted teeth. The Turbomole sits there tilting awkwardly for a moment before the heavy back end slams down into the ground.
RAZOR
(yelping)
Oof!
T-BONE
(crying out)
Agh!
(sighs)
Well, we're okay.
(snorts)
And you gotta adjust the shock absorbers some more, buddy. That was a softer landing than last time, but not by much.
RAZOR
Quit complaing and drive! We've got a mad scientist and some giant bugs to catch!
Grumbling, T-Bone presses some buttons. The headlights come on, illuminating the dark tunnel stretching off into the distance.
T-BONE
Guess we won't be needing the drill. Heck, we coulda used the dang Cyclotron instead, since these bugs went and dug the tunnel for us already.
He looks at a glowering Razor.
T-BONE
Right, right, shut up and drive. Bad guys to bring to justice and whatnot.
He pushes the throttle forwards and the Turbomole drives along the tunnel.
EXT. CITY STREET - DAY
The news chopper continues circling the area, but everyone has left. Sighing, Ann Gora turns to Al as Jonny lowers his video camera.
ANN
The SWAT Kats followed Dr. Viper and his monsters underground, but we know where they're going.
AL
Right. The Megakat Nuclear Plant. On it, Annie.
The chopper turns and zooms off in that direction.
INT. UNDERGROUND - TUNNEL
The Turbomole drives along. Illuminated in the headlights is the slime trail left by the grubs, already soaking into the dirt, turning it into sludgy mud. T-Bone shudders.
T-BONE
Between the fact this tunnel goes in a straight line and the fact those ugly suckers left us an easy trail to follow, we should catch up to 'em in no time.
(getting an idea)
Say, did we remember the bring the Turbo-Rollerblades...?
He smirks. Razor raises an eyebrow.
EXT. COUNTRY ROAD - DAY
The winding road leading out of Megakat City towards the nuclear power plant across the bridge. Track along the road and over the bridge to:
EXT. MEGAKAT NUCLEAR PLANT - DAY
A considerable defensive force has been set up. The Enforcers stand, with Feral at the front, laser rifles ready. The Commander himself holds a rocket launcher. He's still missing his greatcoat, tie blowing in the wind. Behind him and his men sit rows o of Peacekeeper tanks and halftracks. The Enforcers, we see, are being assisted by the plant blue-uniformed SECURITY GUARDS in their jeeps with the radiation symbol on the doors. Choppers circle overhead. One of the guards, the CAPTAIN, addresses Feral.
GUARD CAPTAIN
I sure hope this is enough to deter an attack. I've had the building evacuated just in case they get past us.
FERAL
They won't get past us. This is a force not even Dr. Viper's toughest monsters can hope to prevail against.
He doesn't sound too confident. More hopeful. The captain frowns.
FERAL
What about the reactor? In the...
(winces)
...unlikely event they get past us--
GUARD CAPTAIN
Don't worry, Commander. I've got a man inside preparing an emergency shutdown of the reactor.
Feral nods. The ground rumbles. Suddenly, the giant scarab erupts from beneath the concrete of the power plant parking lot... behind the Enforcers and guards. Feral and the captain whirl around, wide-eyed with surprise, as the scarab crawls free, followed by the grub worms. At that, Feral gets so angry he almost throws his rocket launcher down in disgust, then thinks better of it, whipping it around and aiming at the monsters.
GUARD CAPTAIN
They came up behind us!
FERAL
I really wish people would stop pointing out what I already know!
(when no one does anything)
Fire! Fire, fire, fire!!!!
GUARD CAPTAIN
But the reactor--
FERAL
--is being shut down! We'll have to risk it! We have to!
He launches a rocket. It explodes harmlessly against one of the grubs. The assembled commandos and guards fire with their laser rifles, and the tanks turn around slowly, while Felina and her chopper squadron swoop down and bombard the bugs with missiles and lasers. Nothing seems to be working and the monsters advance towards the front entrance of the building. Feral lowers his rocket launcher and holds up a hand.
FERAL
Cease fire! They're too close to the building!
Looking angry and frustrated, the Enforcers and guards stop firing.
FERAL
We have to wait for word that the reactor has been deactivated!
Meanwhile, Dr. Viper walks along behind the grotesque little troupe of monsters, rubbing his hands together in fiendish delight.
At the front entrance, a SKINNY GUARD and a BURLY GUARD (from "The Wrath of Dark Kat" and "The Ci-Kat-A") stand with holstered laser pistols. Their hands go for their weapons as the bugs approach, the scarab foremost among them. They hesitate, look at one another... and then turn and bolt in opposite directions. Walking over, Dr. Viper completely ignores them and watches with the grubs as the scarab smashes through the front door, taking the doorframe and a good chunk of the surrounding front wall with it.
The Kat's Eye News chopper arrives overhead in time for Ann, Jonny and Al to witness this. At Ann's direction, Al flies in a holding pattern above the plant, Jonny filming down with his camera.
INT. MEGAKAT NUCLEAR PLANT - LOBBY
The door and misc. debris falls inwards as the scarab plows through, followed by Dr. Viper and the grubs. Alarms begin blaring.
VIPER
Quickly! To the main reactor!
INT. UNDERGROUND - TUNNEL
The Turbomole drives along. Ahead is a shaft of sunlight streaming down from the hole in the ceiling, ahead of which the tunnel ends (since the bugs dug no further).
T-BONE
Dead end. But at least we know where they went.
He starts to drive up the incline but Razor stops him with a hand on his shoulder.
RAZOR
No, T-Bone! Wait! I think I know where we are! And I think I've got an idea to take Viper by surprise!
T-Bone glances at him with one raised eyebrow. He shrugs. A moment later, the Turbomole's drill fires to life, and the vehicle surges forwards to begin digging a new tunnel beyond where the bugs' one stops.
INT. NUCLEAR PLANT - REACTOR CONTROL ROOM
A radiation-suited ATOMIC ENGINEER works frantically at the controls. The voice of the guard Feral was talking to issues forth from a speaker inside the guy's hood. The alarms indicating the break-in continue blaring.
GUARD CAPTAIN
(over the radio)
Hurry up!
ATOMIC ENGINEER
I am, I am!
He turns dials and flips switches.
ATOMIC ENGINEER
Initiating shutdown procedure!
Suddenly the control room door - and most of the wall - is smashed inwards. Startled, the engineer turns and holds up a hand. You know the drill.
ATOMIC ENGINEER
(determined)
Stop! This is a--
He stops short, eyes widening behind the visor of the hood as the giant scarab shoulders its way through the hole it's made, followed by the squirming grubs. The engineer gulps and all his courage leaves him.
ATOMIC ENGINEER
(afraid)
Holy kats!
Turning, he runs out the side door as fast as his bulky lead-lined suit will allow.
ATOMIC ENGINEER
Forget this!
The monsters crowd into the control room. Dr. Viper enters last of all, grinning triumphantly. He giggles evilly as he goes to the control console, looking at what he engineer was doing.
VIPER
The foolsss! Trying to shut down the reactor! But it'sss too late!
Laughing, he himself turns some dials and knobs before smashing the controls to pieces with a powerful swing of his tail. He looks at the reactor with its glowing fuel roads through the control room's viewing window. Turning, he swings his tail again. Crack! The thick, armored glass cracks but doesn't break. Annoyed, he turns and addresses the monsters.
VIPER
Knock that door off its hingesss!
The grubs puke their acidic glop on the reinforced armored door leading into the main reactor area. The acid eats through the metal, but not quickly enough for Viper's liking, so the scarab finishes the job, slamming itself against he door and crumpling it inwards.
INT. MEGAKAT NUCLEAR PLANT - REACTOR ROOM
The door flies in and sails across the room, smacking into and cracking the glass of the cylinder containing the fuel roads, the last thing separating Viper from his goal of a radioactive swamp city. He doesn't even need to order the bugs to rush in and finish the job. Their eyes glowing with an evil hunger, the former kats turned Ci-Kat-A turned mutated bug monsters swarm in, crawling over one another to get to the cylinder. The scarab gets to it first.
Smash! The glass shatters completely, spilling the heavy water everywhere. The bugs begin greedily wrenching the fuel roads free and devouring them, the yellow glow coming off of them illuminating the creatures as more alarms blare and red lights flash urgently on the walls. A pre-recorded computerized voice issues forth warnings over the P.A., which of course a proudly watching Viper completely ignores. He seems unaffected by the radiation pouring off of the breached reactor.
COMPUTER VOICE
(over P.A.)
Warning! Warning! Main reactor breach! Security and disaster containment teams to main control room! Warning! Warning!
INT. MEGAKAT NUCLEAR PLANT - REACTOR CONTROL ROOM
Dr. Viper watches through the cracked glass of the viewing window.
COMPUTER VOICE
(over P.A.)
Main reactor breach! Security and disaster containment teams to main control room!
It goes on like that until finally, annoyed, Viper smashes the control room's loudspeaker.
VIPER
Sssilence!
He turns and watches the bugs gorge themselves.
VIPER
(chuckles)
It ssseems there's ssstill enough Ci-Kat-A left in you all that those nuclear fuel rods are nothing but a tasssty treat to you! Jussst as I planned!
EXT. MEGAKAT NUCLEAR PLANT - DAY
The alarms indicating the reactor breach can be heard out here. As can the voice on the P.A. Commander Feral, his men and the others all look extremely worried. Feral glowers.
GUARD CAPTAIN
Dr. Viper got through to the reactor...!
The atomic engineer comes running up, looking ashamed. He pulls his hood off, panting and sweating.
ATOMIC ENGINEER
(addressing the captain)
I'm sorry, sir! I was... unable to finish shutting down the reactor!
GUARD CAPTAIN
(angry)
Now what?
FERAL
(begrudgingly)
It's up to the SWAT Kats now!
(turning to his men and the guards)
Retreat! Get to minimum safe distance!
The Enforcers and the guards begin running away. Feral gets on his walkie-talkie.
FERAL
(into the radio)
This is Commander Feral! All units, initiate a city-wide evacuation order, on the double! I want as many people gotten to safety as quickly as possible!
ENFORCER DISPATCHER
(over the radio)
Affirmative, Commander!
INT. MEGAKAT NUCLEAR PLANT - REACTOR CONTROL ROOM
Dr. Viper continues pleasantly watching his creations gorge themselves.
VIPER
Sssoon, the core will melt down, and my radioactive Viper City will be a reality at lassst! Nothing can ssstop me now!
The building rumbles and quakes. Viper blinks. He turns as the whirling nose drill of the Turbomole jams up through the floor. Gasping and looking uncharacteristically afraid, he backs away, towards the hole in the wall where the control room's main door used to be, gulping nervously.
VIPER
What the--?!
(realizing)
No, no, noooo! Not them! Not now!
The Turbomole erupts through the floor fully and for a moment stands on its back end, then falls forwards, towards Viper. He screams and runs out of the way as the tank-like vehicle lands upright with its front facing the hole in the wall, away from the viewing window and destroyed reactor room door. The SWAT Kats emphatically don't get out. Viper's fear and surprise is slowly replaced by anger.
VIPER
Not the SWAT Katsss!
(screams in rage and frustration)
Aaaghhh!
(yells over)
Hey, you brainless bugsss! Get in here and deal with them! Now!
(nervously)
Protect me!
In the Turbomole, T-Bone goes to open the top but is stopped first by Razor's hand on his shoulder and then by some little blaring alarms and warning lights on the vehicle's console.
RAZOR
No, T-Bone! Look!
He points back over his shoulder. T-Bone looks over, then consults his instruments.
T-BONE
Agh! We're too late! Oh, wow, man! Look at all the radioactivity pouring off of that thing!
RAZOR
Good thing the Turbomole is shielded from that kinda crud.
T-BONE
Thank you, lead lining...
Hearing a growl, he gasps, and he and Razor watch as the mutated grub worms squirm and ooze over towards them. The scarab, ignoring Viper's orders, can be seen continuing to visibly munch away at the fuel rods. It begins undergoing a further mutation, growing bigger, with huge spikes and barbs erupting along its shelled back.
T-BONE
Looks like the big bug brigade wants to play.
He turns the Turbomole around so the still spinning drill can do its work, but the grubs overturn the vehicle. The SWAT Kats yelp as they're knocked around inside, the Turbomole ending up teetering precariously on its side, threatening to tilt over entirely and fall back down into the hole it just emerged from. The drill whines and grinds to a sudden, jarring halt.
T-BONE
Yaaaagghhh! They're tougher than I thought!
RAZOR
Let's get our protective suits on and get outta this thing, pronto!
The SWAT Kats hurriedly don lead-lined radiation suits (in red and blue "SWAT Kats colors," of course), wearing their Glovatrixes worn on the outside. We also see the Glovatrixes have dosimeters as one of their many features. They're also wearing the Turbo Rollerblades, although the wheels are retracted so it looks like they're just wearing boots.
After a moment, the canopy of the Turbomole slides open, and T-Bone and Razor clamber out, and not a moment too soon! The Turbomole tilts further (with some "help" from the attacking grubs) and falls down into the big hole. There's a distant crash at it hits the bottom.
T-Bone winces.
T-BONE
(filtered through his suit radio)
And the Turbomole eats it again...
RAZOR
(likewise)
Forget about the Turbomole for right now, buddy, we've got bigger problems.
Turning towards the villains, the pair assuming fighting stances, ready to throw down. Recovering his courage, Dr. Viper hisses angrily and approaches the duo, tail lashing angrily.
T-BONE
(grunts)
Yeah, like figuring out how to move around in these things. Gah! These suits weigh a ton!
VIPER
(to the grubs)
Nevermind the SWAT Katsss! I'll handle them! You finish helping Ssstreet with the reactor!
(smirks)
They're nothing without their vehiclesss and gadgetsss!
RAZOR
(horrified)
Street? That thing in there used to be Street...?
T-BONE
Then that must mean... those other bugs are that guy Taylor and those escaped prisoners!
(getting angry)
Oh, man, Viper, you evil sicko! As if those poor guys didn't have it bad enough being mind-controlled alien bugs! I'm gonna enjoy taking care of you!
VIPER
The come and fight me, SSSSWAT Kat!
As the grubs squirm back into the adjacent room, Viper swings his tail and smacks T-Bone into Razor as the big vigilante runs at him, swinging a fist clumsily, sending both SWAT Kats flying into the wall.
RAZOR
Oof!
(grunts)
Get off me, T-Bone! And forget Viper for right now!
T-BONE
Roger! But first, let's make sure he can't cause us any problems!
(turns)
Deploying Stapler Missiles!
VIPER
Deploying what--?
The SWAT Kats fire big staple-like projectiles at the mad scientist. One encircles his waist, another his throat, and he is pinned against the smashed control console and held fast, struggling uselessly.
T-BONE
There, that'll hold him for a while.
(looking into the reactor room)
T-BONE
Well, smart guy, they've breached the reactor and they're havin' their snack...
(glances at all the gauges)
...and I'm guessin' those measurements ain't good. So what's your plan?
RAZOR
I kinda don't have one, exactly. But what we can do is prevent this place from totally melting down and destroying Megakat City, and maybe take care of Dr. Bug-Eyes and his mutated buddies once and for all at the same time.
T-BONE
(doubtful)
And how can we do that? I'm no nuclear physicist, but without the water keeping those fuel rods cooled off, they'll just overheat and blow up, right?
RAZOR
Not exactly, but--
T-BONE
So we gotta get 'em cooled down, right?
Razor holds up a finger.
RAZOR
Now you're with me! Come on!
He turns and hurries from the room as fast as his heavy suit will allow. T-Bone lingers, looking back and forth between Razor and the pinned Viper.
RAZOR
(from outside)
Come on! We're gonna bring the water to the reactor!
T-Bone hurries out - again, as quickly as the radiation suit he's wearing will let him.
T-BONE
We're gonna what...?
COMPUTER VOICE
(over PA)
Warning! Warning!
EXT. MEGAKAT NUCLEAR PLANT - DAY
Everyone's mostly evacuated, including the choppers. One lingers, however. Naturally, it's Felina's. And it's flying towards the nuclear plant, not away from it. An annoyed Commander Feral gets on the radio.
FERAL
(into the radio)
This is Commander Feral! Lieutenant, what are you doing?
FELINA
(responding over the radio)
What else? Helping the SWAT Kats avert meltdown!
FERAL
Felina--
In her chopper, Felina looks grim and determined, glancing at her co-pilot. He seems uncertain.
FELINA
We have to go help the SWAT Kats!
(smirks)
And maybe you can get a little revenge for Sergeant Taylor.
After a moment, the other Enforcer nods.
ENFORCER PILOT
Roger!
FELINA
(softly)
Sorry, Uncle.
FERAL
(angry and yelling into the radio)
Felina, come back here!
(getting no response, he tries a different tactic)
Hey, you! Pilot! This is Commander Feral! I order you to fly back here at once!
Still no answer. Feral growls.
FERAL
Oooh, that niece of mine is teaching my men some very bad habits.
(turns to the guard captain)
Let's get out of here.
GUARD CAPTAIN
Commander, you sound somewhat confident the SWAT Kats might just pull this off...
Feral turns and watches his niece's chopper flying towards the power plant.
FERAL
I am. I have to be. Because the alternative is just giving up. Because if Lieutenant Feral and the SWAT Kats can't stop that monster bug... then no one can. Now come on, let's go!
They get into Feral's cruiser and speed off.
INT. MEGAKAT NUCLEAR PLANT - REACTOR CONTROL ROOM
Viper manages to wrench free of the Stapler Missiles, eyes glowing in rage. He now calls the monsters away from their feeding frenzy again. Particularly the scarab.
VIPER
The SWAT Kats are up to sssomething! Hurry! We mussst stop them!
INT. MEGAKAT NUCLEAR PLANT - HALLWAY
Slightly encumbered by the heavy radiation-proof suits, the SWAT Kats run through the deserted plant, pursued relentlessly by the blaring alarms and flashing red lights. T-Bone is in the lead. Even though it was Razor's idea, he, being bigger and stronger, moves faster in the weighted lead-lined suit. But his slimmer partner is no slouch; hours of training in the salvage yard's obstacle course helped keep the deceptively skinny-looking SWAT Kat toned enough that he is able to keep up with T-Bone, even if he does fall slightly behind. Every so often, panting audibly, their breath fogging the faceplates of the hoods, the two SWAT Kats will pause to look at the signs that the power plant staff had put up everywhere.
RAZOR
We need to get to one of the plant's cooling towers!
Finally spotting the relevant sign ("COOLING TOWER 'A'") accompanied by a helpful arrow pointing down the hall.
RAZOR
Bingo!
Hearing snarling and roaring, they turn and see the giant bugs rushing towards them. They gasp.
RAZOR
Activate Turbo Rollerblades!
The wheels on the rollerblades descend into place along with the rocket heels, and the SWAT Kats shoot off down the hall, their enemies in hot pursuit, an enraged Dr. Viper shouting orders.
VIPER
Get them!
INT. MEGAKAT NUCLEAR PLANT - SECURITY CHECKPOINT
The SWAT Kats reach a security checkpoint - unmanned, of course - that reads "COOLING TOWER 'A' - NO ADMITTANCE." They slow down and skid to a hell with their rollerblades. There are a set of double doors behind a glass panel opposite the guard station.
RAZOR
Here we go!
He grabs the chair behind the desk at the guard station and, skating over, flings it. Crash! It shatters the glass partition and a new jangle of alarms, which he and T-Bone ignore, joins the cacophony.
RAZOR
In here!
Zooming forward, Razor jiggles the pushbar and shoves. It doesn't budge.
RAZOR
Locked!
There's a keycard reader. Razor smirks a bit. He's done this dance before. He tries to lift a leg to kick the doors open, but finds the suit won't let him. He frowns, flinging himself shoulder-first into the doors and nearly slipping and falling thanks to the rollerblades. Pain shoots through his shoulder and the doors stubbornly remain shut and locked. A hand clamps on his shoulder and turns. It's T-Bone.
T-BONE
(confidently)
Allow me.
T-Bone fling himself forward with all of his might like a football player. The doors burst open, swinging inward.
T-BONE
(triumphant)
Unlocked!
(gestures inside)
Brains before beauty, buddy! This is your plan, after all!
Razor goes in.
NT. MEGAKAT NUCLEAR PLANT - COOLING TOWER INTERIOR
The cooling tower interior is vast, with slightly inclined walls sloping up towards the open top. Hearing whirring rotor blades, the SWAT Kats watch an Enforcer chopper fly overhead, before Razor's attention turns to a large outlet pipe on the far side of the room. He runs over as quickly as his radiation suit will allow. The pipe is enormous, sealed with a hinged, riveted door with a valve handle. A sign beside it informs the reader of the pipe's purpose and some small print legalese signed by plant management stipulates severe consequences for employees who opened the pipe in any event except for an emergency. Razor grinned.
This was what he wants.
RAZOR
This is Megakat City's salvation.
(beat)
I hope.
He turns to T-Bone, who stands waiting with his hands on his hips in the middle of the room.
RAZOR
This pipe leads directly to Megakat Bay! It's where the plant gets its water from!
T-Bone frowns, but quickly understands his friends plan a little better now.
T-BONE
Lemme guess. Open the pipe, flood the plant. Drown the nuclear fire before it gets too hot and melts the whole place down.
(he gives Razor a thumbs up, grinning)
Good thinkin'!
He skates over and, together, he and Razor begin attempting to turn the massive valve.
RAZOR
(straining, grunting and sweating)
Remember!
Lefty loosey, righty tighty!
T-BONE
(also grunting, gasping)
I know, I know! We're both mechanics!
Try as they might, though, the valve stubbornly refuses to budge more than a few inches.
T-BONE
(panting)
Guess the staff haven't had to open it in a while...
Above, the Enforcer chopper reappears. Inside, Felina Feral and the other Enforcer watch the SWAT Kats wrestle with the valve.
ENFORCER PILOT
(puzzled)
What are they doing?
FELINA
(realizing)
I think I know!
She gets on the loudspeaker.
FELINA
(through the P.A.)
SWAT Kats!
Her voice echoes down through the cooling tower interior. The The two radiation-suited vigilantes flinch as the tower's acoustics amplify her voice. Felina winces but keeps talking.
FELINA
(through the P.A.)
This is Lieutenant Feral! I know what you're trying to do! Stand back! Get clear of the pipe and we'll blast it open!
Razor gives a little salute to signal that they understand. T-Bone shakes his fist up at the hovering helicopter to show his displeasure at nearly having his eardrums blown out. The two run from the tower, back through the double doors they'd entered through. Once they're safely out of the way, Felina flicks a switch.
A targeting scope swivels into place over her eye and she sights the pipe cover through it, focusing her crosshairs on the valve handle. Beside her, the other Enforcer keeps the aircraft steady.
Whoosh! Felina fires. A missile flies down and busts the valve handle and the cover - and much of the pipe and surrounding wall -into nonexistence, and Megakat Bay begins rushing in. Felina's pilot gives a cry of excitement.
FELINA
(more reserved)
That water will hopefully flood the power plant and cool down the breached reactor!
ENFORCER PILOT
But what about the SWAT Kats? We can't just leave them to drown.
FELINA
And we're not gonna!
Unbuckling her seatbelt, pushing the targeting scope back up into place, Felina rises and moves into the rear of the chopper. She slides open the side door and kneels down, preparing the rescue ladder for lowering.
FELINA
Lower us down inside the cooling tower as far as you can!
INT. MEGAKAT NUCLEAR PLANT - HALLWAY AND SECURITY CHECKPOINT
Dr. Viper and his mutated minions hurry through the rising water.
VIPER
Ssssaltwater! The ocean! Megakat Bay!
Rage fills him as he realizes what's happened. A fury like nothing he's ever experienced. Already, as the water level rises up over the base of the reactor pedestal, the glow of the fuel rods is beginning to fade.
COMPUTER VOICE
(over the PA)
Attention! Attention! Critical radiation leakage levels lowering!
VIPER
Curssse you, SWAT Katsss!
He rushes from the room.
He consults the dosimeter mounted on the wrist of his radiation suit and is relieved to see the color is still blue. Just to be safe, he turns and consults a radiation detector mounted on the wall underneath a sign that reads "SAFETY IS OUR #1 PRIORITY!" The radiation levels inside the plant are indeed returning to normal. Razor sighs in relief. On the downside, water rushing in from Megakat Bay via the broken pipe is threatening to flood the entire building. Already, the SWAT Kats are ankle-deep in it in their heavy lead-lined suits. The alarms continue blaring.
Razor gives the radiation detector another glance just to be sure.
RAZOR
I think it's safe to take these things off.
He pulls off his visored hood.
RAZOR
And we better get 'em off quick. This place is filling up with water fast and these suits weigh a ton!
T-BONE
Fine by me!
T-Bone pulls his suit's hood off, too. He begins struggling out of the heavy suit.
T-BONE
As for the water, maybe we oughta fix what we - or rather Lieutenant Feral - broke
So saying, he works one arm free from the suit and holds up his Glovatrix for emphasis.
T-BONE
I figure a few cement slugs'll plug that leak long enough for the repair crews to do a proper fix-up.
A roar shakes the entire structure. Halfway out of their radiation suits, the SWAT Kats turn. The glistening black form of the mutated Harley Street is visible through the doors leading back into the plant proper, barrelling down the flooded hallway, murder in his glowing compound eyes. He's far too big for the doorframe, but it doesn't matter; he destroys it and a good portion of the surrounding wall by shouldering through. The cooling tower provides him with the headroom he requires to rise to full, monstrous height, arms spread, clawed fingers splayed, ready to slash at his enemies.
Dr. Viper enters after him. The grub worms are behind him. He points.
VIPER
SWAT Katsss! You'll die for thisss!
RAZOR
I think plugging the leak might have to be someone else's problem!
As the duo struggle to finish removing their suits, the giant bugs stomp towards them, wading through the water, which is now waist-deep for the vigilantes and knee-deep for the enormous mutated bugs. Viper, we see, is having some difficulty figting the current, but manages to struggle past the scarab and grabs at T-Bone's shoulder. T-Bone elbows him in the face, and with a yell, the snake-like scientist is knocked aside... and swept right out of the cooling tower and back into the security checkpoint area and hallway beyond, yelling.
INT. MEGAKAT NUCLEAR PLANT - HALLWAY
Screaming, Dr. Viper is swept wildly down the flooded hallway.
INT. MEGAKAT NUCLEAR PLANT - LOBBY
Viper gets washed out the hole where the front door used to be.
INT. MEGAKAT NUCLEAR PLANT - COOLING TOWER
Above the SWAT Kats, in the Enforcer chopper, while the pilot keeps the aircraft steady, Felina unfurls the rescue ladder. It dangles down.
FELINA
(yelling down)
SWAT Kats!
She can't be heard over the combined noise of the rushing water and the whupping helicopter rotors.
FELINA
(yelling up to the pilot)
Get on the loudspeaker!
ENFORCER PILOT
Roger!
Flicking a switch, Felina's pilot yells into his helmet mic.
ENFORCER PILOT
(over the P.A.)
SWAT Kats! Grab the ladder!
The SWAT Kats look up and see the ladder.
T-BONE
(grumbling)
Rescued by the Enforcers! I'm never gonna live this down!
One of the grubs spits acid which dissolves the bottom few rungs of the ladder before the SWAT Kats can grab it. Panicking, the pilot lifts the chopper up.
T-BONE
Darn it! Razor! The Turbo Rollerblades!
RAZOR
Affirmative!
They activate the jet-powered skates again as a growl, the giant mutated Dr. Street slashes at him. Even with the lead suit, Razor is able to dodge. The scarab's claws do the rest of the work in removing the suit for Razor, slashing it, as well as a goodly portion of his G-suit underneath, to ribbons, exposing the thin SWAT Kat's midriff, leaving deep scratches.
RAZOR
(in pain)
Aaaghhh!
T-Bone looks back.
T-BONE
Buddy!
The water continues to rise. The two vigilantes are up to their armpits in it. The black scarab is waist-deep. He's moving sluggishly. He weighs a ton in this form. The grubs flounder and go under and don't come back up. They sink and drown.
As Razor staggers towards T-Bone, T-Bone grabs his wrist.
T-BONE
Come on!
RAZOR
I am, I am!
With his free hand, Razor aims at Street's face and fires Mini-Cement Slugs.
RAZOR
Eat cement, bugface!
The cement slugs splat against the scarab's hideous mug.
SCARAB
Blaaaghhhhh!
The two SWAT Kats use the Turbo Rollerblades to skate up the steep incline of the cooling tower interior. But the scarab isn't finished. Managing to scrape most of the dried cement off of his face, enough to allow him to see, he notices the escaping vigilantes and howls with rage. Sloshing through the water, he reaches the slightly inclined wall of the cooling tower and begins to climb up it, scuttling madly up after the retreating chopper and his prey.
The chopper continues rising, winching the ladder in at the same time, as the scarab crawls up the interior of the tower after the rapidly ascending SWAT Kats ahead of the rising water, struggling to haul himself up, his weight bearing him down somewhat, taloned hands and feet digging into the cement. With a growl, he swipes at the SWAT Kats' dangling feet, but they manage to keep just ahead of him in time.
He snaps at them with his drooling mandibles. All the while the water continues gushing in behind him, filling the bottom of the tower up.
EXT. MEGAKAT NUCLEAR PLANT - EVENING
The chopper flies up out of the top of the tower, and a moment later T-Bone and Razor come shooting out, flying through the air. T-Bone grabs what's left of the dangling rescue ladder. Razor almost doesn't make but T-Bone reaches down and grabs his hand just as the scarab emerges, hauling himself halfway up, reaching for his escaping prey unsuccessfully.
Even as the ladder continues winching the vigilantes in, Felina jumps into the seat beside the other Enforcer. She flips her helmet's visor down, grabbing hold of the yoke for the aircraft's firing controls. She taks aim, but not at Street himself. Instead, she aims for the rim of the cooling tower on which he is perched. She grits her teeth, pulling the trigger. Two missiles shoot out.
From their position being winched up on the ladder, the SWAT Kats watch as the missiles fly forward and strike the top of the structure. There is a fiery explosion as the topmost portion of the cooling tower explodes in a rain of concrete debris. With a startled bellow, the giant scarab pitches backward, arms flailing. He attempts to spread his wings and fly, but his momentum prevents him. Besides, he was falling backwards, and even though his wings unfurled, they simply flew up and around his plummeting body as it tumbled down the center of the cooling tower's interior.
FELINA
(coldly)
That's for Taylor.
INT. MEGAKAT NUCLEAR PLANT - COOLING TOWER INTERIOR
The black horror falls and falls, until at last he splashes into the churning, foaming seawater filling up the bottom of the shaft, and his great weight ensures he sinks like a stone. He flails uselessly, struggling to reach the surface, only for the chunks of concrete which followed him down to strike the surface and slam into him, bearing him down to the floor several feet below. Bubbles rise to the surface, and then gradually stopped. Dr. Harley Street is gone.
EXT. MEGAKAT BAY - DAY
Dr. Viper surfaces in the water and splashes around, having been washed right out of the parking lot and off the plant property, down the shoreline and into the sea. He coughs and splutters. He glances disdainfully at the nuclear power plant.
VIPER
Good thing I can ssswim, unlike those ssstupid bugsss!
(sighs)
But it'sss a long way back to my beloved Dead Foressst.
He swims off.
EXT. MEGAKAT NUCLEAR PLANT - DAY
Felina's chopper sets the duo down on the ground in the power plant parking lot, then the pilot flies around and lands nearby. As the rotor blades whip the air up around them, T-Bone immediately bends to examine Razor's body through the slashed G-suit where the scarascratched him. The wounds aren't that serious. Razor smacks his friend's probing fingers away.
RAZOR
Easy, buddy, I'll be okay. Street didn't get me too bad. Just a flesh wound.
(sighs)
Lucky the Ci-Kat-A only convert people with their bite, not scratches!
T-Bone nods.
T-BONE
I kinda feel bad for poor Dr. Street...
He turns and looks at the smouldering cooling tower.
RAZOR
Yeah, it wasn't his fault. But at least it's over now.
As the Enforcer chopper's rotor blades die down, Felina gets out and walks over.
FELINA
A shame about Street. And Taylor. And the others.
(sighs heavily)
But I'm just glad you two are all right.
Nearby, the Kat's Eye News chopper lands, and Ann gets out with Jonny. They run over.
T-BONE
Looks like Ann wants her exclusive.
(smirks)
I get to tell her about how I won the race up the side of the stack!
RAZOR
(surprised)
Race? What race? T-Bone, we were running for our lives!
T-BONE
(confident)
But I still reached the top first!
RAZOR
(sighs)
You did not. I really hope you're kidding, buddy.
T-BONE
We'll see.
(turns to Jonny)
Hey, you, uh... camera guy! You got the whole thing on video while you guys were flying around up there, right?
JONNY
Uh, yeah...
EXT. MEGAKAT NUCLEAR PLANT - DAY
It's a little later. The SWAT Kats, Felina, Ann Gora and Jonny are watching the playback of the previous action sequence using a viewing device in the news chopper. T-Bone points at the small screen and gloats.
T-BONE
See? You were behind, buddy! Otherwise that big bug would've chowed down on your skates!
RAZOR
(seething)
Oh yeah? Looks he was gnarling on yours, too, pal!
He points at some nicks on the heels of the bigger SWAT Kat's rollerblades. Shaking her head, Ann has Jonny turn off the viewing device and resume filming as she reports on what just happened.
ANN
(into her mic)
This is Ann Gora reporting live from the Megakat Nuclear Plant! Once again, the heroic SWAT Kats have saved Megakat City from total destruction!
Felina playfully interjects.
FELINA
With some help from the Enforcers!
ANN
Of course! Felina Feral of the Enforcers and a comrade of hers were able to provide invaluable insistence against the monsters, with Lieutenant Feral herself taking out the final remaining creature!
FELINA
(under her breath)
That should make Uncle Ulysses happy.
Meanwhile, the SWAT Kats walk off, arguing.
T-BONE
I demand a rematch!
RAZOR
Here? Now?
T-BONE
Sure! The parking lot's pretty big.
They hear approaching sirens.
RAZOR
Uh-oh, here comes Feral. We better scoot. Or skate, rather.
T-BONE
(mischievous)
Race ya back to where we left the Turbokat!
RAZOR
You're on!
They zoom off.
THE END.
The Doctors of Doom are present only exists as a plot outline by series writer Glenn Leopold. Although excited for another Dr. Viper, I ended up being kinda disappointed with it and did my own fan rewrite. However, as happy as I am with that, I wanted to write a script for the episode that was as close to Leopold's outline as I could get it without embellishing it too much (like adding too many additional characters and such). I also finally was able to use the escaped convict leader's real name, Drake, which was revealed in concept art of him.
T-Bone, Razor, Commander Feral, Felina Feral, Ann Gora, Jonny K., Al, Dr. Viper, Dr. Harley Street, Sergeant Gray Taylor, Drake, Emil, Convicts, Little Old Lady, Enforcer Sergeant, Enforcer Commandos, Enforcer Pilot, Atomic Engineer, Skinny Guard and Burly Guard - SWAT Kats: Radical Squadron
