Long ago, before the Skaven became the terror of the world, there stood a magnificent ancient city known as Kavzar

Humans and dwarfs lived there together, building great halls, monuments and towers of stone. Their greatest ambition was an enormous tower that would rise above the entire city and reach toward the heavens.

But the tower proved too great even for its builders.

Then a mysterious stranger came to Kavzar.

He promised that he could finish what humans and dwarfs could not. In return, he asked for only one thing: the right to place a great bell at the very top of the completed tower.

The people accepted.

The tower was finished.

Then one night, the bell began to ring.

One... two... three...

Its sound echoed across the streets and through the mountains surrounding Kavzar.

It continued.

Until the bell had sounded thirteen times.

After the thirteenth toll, darkness descended upon the city.

The sky became unnatural. Terrible rains came and would not cease. Crops failed, supplies disappeared, disease spread and hunger consumed the population.

And beneath the streets, something was multiplying.

Rats.

They appeared in houses, cellars, temples and tunnels. Hundreds became thousands. Thousands became countless swarms.

The great city slowly collapsed into fear, death and ruin.

Humans and dwarfs who had once built Kavzar together disappeared, and the magnificent city they had created was swallowed by destruction.

But Kavzar was not truly empty.

Something new had risen beneath its broken streets.

The Skaven.

Ages passed.

The proud buildings of Kavzar crumbled. Its monuments shattered. Its streets disappeared beneath rubble, and the enormous tower that once reached toward the heavens became little more than a broken skeleton against the sky.

Yet the legacy of the thirteen tolls remained.

Now, beneath the sickly green light of Morrslieb, Grey Seer Thanquol stands upon the shattered remains of the ancient city.

Before him stretch the ruins of a civilization that believed it could build its way to the heavens.

Behind the broken towers, the green moon watches silently.

Kavzar is gone.

Its people are gone.

But from its ruins came something far worse.

And somewhere, deep beneath the ancient stones of the ruined city, one can almost imagine hearing the echo of an old bell...

Thirteen times.
