- As I imagined, we are roughly from the same age...so you like me never saw the things that come in the winter...our grand priestess said the last time they appeared was around four decades ago...
- Alright, so what even are these things that come in the winter??
- Well, the books I read call them "Emberless Ones" or just "Cold Ones"...they are things that came when the Iron Wall fell, maleficent and wicked beings who yearn to kill us and snuff our fire...they only appear when the winter are particularly dark and cold...and this year seems to be the case.
- Things in the dark wanting to kill us are plenty on the forest...why those would be special?
- Our grand priestess say these things are intelligent and can use the raw power of magic...they are no mindless horde, they have a sadistic cunning in their actions...its said the flames, light and warmth of life attract them...but they are mortaly weak to consecrated flames and the touch of pure iron...this is why we light these shrines with our consecrated candles, with this shrine lit, they cannot cross this road anymore.
- This sounds great! because all we needed for this war torn land is more things wanting to kill us...what a winter wonderland we are living!
- Do not lose hope lady knight, those who lose the flame of hope get engulfed by the merciless winter.
- I mean no disrespect, but it's easier said than done...our Order just got shattered by betrayal and we are being forced to work with vampires...my flame of hope is less than a spark at this point priestess.
- I understand your frustration as a Solar Knight in this situation...but Lord Tryan and his sanguine court are not the worst allies imaginable, I've been living on their hold my whole life and I can say they are very kind overlords.
- Righteous people should not live under the boot of parasites!...and the fact they now have the Crimson Tyrant herself among then dont make things any better...I feel this whole war is just vampires using us mortals, to kill other vampires.
- Yes I admit, Lord Tryan being merciful towards the tyrant was not the best news we received...but I dont mind if they just gonna use her as weapon...besides, faithful people of all over the kingdom are flocking to our side out of their own volition, this has to be a sign of the goddess being on our side, there is reason for hope!
- Yes,there is the faithful and the righteous joining our cause...but at the same time filthy wildspeakers join our ranks...not to mention the necromancer Lord Tryan brought with him...this do not bode well to our cause...
- Dahlia herself had unsavory allies when she walked this world...the goddess believes anyone with a good soul can be a instrument of light...even if their methods are questionable.
- This is the reason most of us don't agree with Dahlians most of the time...we believe truly good souls never fall to darkness to begin with...
- But what is even the meaning of falling to darkness in the end of the day? are all vampires irredeemably evil because of their thirst? are all witches wicked for seeking the guidance of arcane spirits? arent us all fallen to darkness the moment we take a sword against another person??
- I have the feeling you trying to force me into philosophy,priestess, a battle I cannot win, therefore I will not argue this one.

- The higher ranks in the order, yes probably, but grunts like me have nothing fancy to debate...most of us don't even know how to read, me included! we know the enemy and we know ourselves, our faith dont require debates.

- Oh, it's simple, I made these candles with holy runes to draw flux...so they are technically burning on magic as much as they are on wick and wax...not just they will burn for a long time but they are almost impossible to extinguish.
