Minutes upon minutes went by as the lizard explored the coral reef he'd found, taking in the sights and watching all the fish... But, he couldn't stay forever. An impressive 11 minutes had gone by since he'd gotten a breath, and he neared his limit as the burning in his mostly-empty lungs grew dire, but he didn't want to surface yet; there was still so much more to see, he didn't want to pause! ...Despite the lack of breathing gear or air sources though, he had a way. It was time for the second phase of his dive.

Without bothering to even swim up, the lizard tilted his head back and gasped. Seawater flooded his lungs... Easing their discomfort. It was an odd ability he'd discovered he had on a dive that wouldn't have ended well without it; his lungs could process water for a few minutes at a time, letting him breathe it like he would air and not even having any discomfort in doing so, though it took a little more effort. As he panted to catch his breath, the last bubbles in him floated out with his exhalations, and the extra weight made him sink to land firmly on the bottom. With his ability buying him another 6 minutes or so before he'd begin actually drowning, his swim turned to a stroll as he resumed exploring.

But of course, that time would eventually pass. As he hit 5 minutes, the lizard's breathing began getting heavier, more strained, as the water breathing ability of his lungs was being worn out. He knew not to push himself much farther, and kicked off the bottom to start swimming up, a bit slower than normal due to his flooded body. Another 30 seconds or so, and he neared the surface, but was beginning to cough more and more often, about to start drowning... But, he surfaced just fine, and spat up all the water in his lungs to switch back to breathing air. A couple minutes of recovery, and his lungs would be ready for another long dive!
