"Held back from rescue"
Blubby had been heading by ship to visit Conduit on another continent, and the fish was excited for the big day! Except, the ship didn't arrive on time... Nor a few hours later... Until people arrived in lifeboats, as the ship had ended up sinking! Conduit quickly checked who was on each of the lifeboats... The blue dragon was nowhere to be found. One of the survivors told him roughly where the ship had gone down, and Conduit began swimming for it as fast as he could. It'd already been 4 hours... Blubby could last longer than that, but was there enough air for him to do so?
Meanwhile, Blubby tried his best not to panic, wandering the flooded halls of the wrecked ship while looking for air pockets, sucking up any he could find. Trying to walk to shore would be hopeless even if his lungs were full of fresh air, he had to hold out until help could arrive. As the hours passed though, the air that'd been trapped with him was starting to not be enough, and he'd eventually inhaled all of it... He found a hatch leading outside, and while its valve was broken on his side, that didn't matter. He stayed next to it, waiting and praying...
Conduit finally arrived after a grueling swim, finding the shipwreck without much trouble and swimming straight to it. "Blubby, are you there!? I'm gonna get you out!" He repeatedly called out, hoping for any sign of the dragon... One of his calls was finally answered by frantic scratches on the opposite side of a metal hatch! He went straight for its window - made of tempered glass that'd be hopeless to break - and gasped in shock and concern; Blubby was in there, visibly choking on the water while looking out at him with a terrified expression! Conduit got to work on trying to turn the hatch's valve to open it, but it seemed like it'd gotten stuck, and Blubby was certainly in no shape to help... He had to think of something, QUICK!
