This is Alfonso. To be precise, this is the design of Alfonso I ultimately decided upon before making him a flagship character. The picture in the upper-left was my first drawing of him, which you can see is pretty much just the original design I had but with a dog head plopped on top of it. I made him a dog because I didn't like how he was this nondescript creature without any defined species, and I thought making him an animal would ground him more in reality.
The puppy next to him was one of his many, many subjects, all of which were identical and would cause trouble for other artists' OCs on his behalf. Much like how I based original Alfonso on Megaman Juno, I based the puppies on Tron Bonne's Servbots.
I eventually got a little tired of the idea of Alfonso being this fourth-wall-breaking trickster and decided to build his own world around him, and that's when the story of him being a priest spun.
The pictures in the upper right and on the bottom are the finalized version of Alfonso, where I finally swapped the purple robe for a black one. Of course, I originally made the robe purple because purple is the color of all my main characters and personas. But purple didn't really look right on him, so I switched to black. The puppies that were his subjects I decided to bring down to one, and make him his son, which I named Miguel (a name I'm sure rings a couple bells).
The cat next to him in the upper-right picture was my first attempt at making priests that represented eyes of different colors. It only made sense for the rival of the dog that represents of the Red Eye to be a cat that represents the Blue Eye, and she was originally going to be a superhero of sorts and Alfonso's primary adversary.
All the characters that possessed a Colored Eye were originally going to be people from different professions, but I found it more cohesive to make them all priests.
I was also dabbling with the idea of making the Colored Eyes physical objects that contained great power, to hearken back to the earliest idea of Alfonso being a mad scientist with a magic red amulet (which is why the cat's Blue Eye is a jewel affixed to her chest). But, again, it was more cohesive to make them all have their powers be parts of their bodies and the eyes just be decorations on their clothes.
Alfonso overall is one of the few designs I made that I find to be perfect. If I were to "redesign" him now, I honestly wouldn't change much, he's just that good. I ultimately moved on from him, though, as I eventually gravitated away from darker subject matter (though I've still got a fascination for it). But I've wanted to talk a bit about him for a very long time, and I'm glad it's at last out of my system.
