In the book he looks mostly like a regular horse but it seemed fit to take a bit (a massive) amount of creative freedom to make him a dragon horse, he also has a humanoid form but I haven’t drawn it des he hasn’t used it either since his appearance.
The saddle was making a lot of patters up, I searched for references and with the description of the colors, flowers and tassels as well as the gold and the dancing beast it was what It ended up with.
Until now I loved Ao Lie so much even when I’m not so far into the book, but he seems to escape trouble his brother’s cause simply by pretending he’s a regular horse, while everyone else gets tied up and is about to be punished, he’s left in a garden to peacefully eat hay. I’m sure he knows what’s going on but prefers to not get involved in further issues, after all if everyone sees you as a horse why take on more responsibilities?
He knows how to do the bare minimum in the mission hahah
