Character Description

At ninety-three years old, Silk is considered a young adult among the Nocthiel, having undergone the Pruning Ritual only a few years earlier. Unlike many of her kin, whose centuries among the dead have worn away at their emotions, Silk has managed to preserve an infectious enthusiasm for the world around her. She greets each new day with genuine curiosity, often wandering wherever her feet take her simply to see something she has never seen before. Her cheerful attitude tends to catch outsiders off guard; few expect someone with the appearance of a corpse to laugh so freely or smile so often.

Background/History

Silk is endlessly fascinated by the living. She adores the warmth that radiates from their bodies, often commenting on how comforting it feels compared to the constant chill of her own skin. While others may find physical contact awkward, Silk has no reservations about offering hugs, leaning against friends, or absentmindedly holding someone's hand simply because she enjoys feeling the gentle pulse of life beneath their skin. Of all living creatures, rabbits hold a special place in her heart. Their soft fur, rapid heartbeats, and boundless energy never fail to make her smile, and she can easily lose an afternoon watching them hop through meadows or forests.

Her outlook on existence differs greatly from most races. Having accepted undeath as a natural continuation of life, Silk views existence as an endless journey rather than something with a fixed conclusion. Sickness, disease, and even the prospect of death rarely concern her. To Silk, every ending simply leads into another chapter, making panic over mortality seem unnecessary.

Although she embraces her people's belief that death is another stage of life, Silk rejects the cynicism that often accompanies such philosophy. She believes the fleeting nature of mortal lives makes them even more precious, encouraging her to cherish every friendship she forms. Rather than pitying the living for their short lifespans, she celebrates the passion with which they experience each day. She eagerly seeks out festivals, bustling markets, and lively gatherings simply because she enjoys being surrounded by people whose hearts beat with vibrant energy.

Like every Nocthiel, Silk harbors a deep hatred for necromancy. She sees an enormous difference between willingly embracing the Pruning Ritual and having one's corpse manipulated as a puppet. To her, necromancers violate the dignity of both life and death, and the very thought of someone confusing her with a mindless zombie is enough to wipe the smile from her face. Despite her lighthearted personality, insulting her people in such a way is one of the few things capable of provoking genuine anger.
