Sometimes it's difficult to reconcile the disparate pieces of America. It feels like, in spite of all our progress, we haven't actually changed at all.
But America is a perpetual work in progress. Imperfect, but always striving to be more perfect.
For a long while now, it feels like the only way we've changed is for the worse.
I don't believe in hope because I know how I feel doesn't impact the things that bring about change in the world. But I'm already doing all of those things I can, small as they are, and I have relatives who depend on me and who physically can't flee with me if I chose to leave. So hoping it gets better is all I can do.
