To end it all off, here are Tammy Palos, Billy Richards, and Russie the Bat holding the flag currently being used by the United States today, with fifty stars, representing each U.S. state, in the blue canton. As Independence Day is typcially the day when a U.S. flag becomes official, this flag has been in official use now for exactly sixty-six years since 1960, following Hawaii's admission to the union on August 21, 1959. This flag is also the longest-used. The flag to previously hold the record of longest use was the forty-eight star flag which was used from 1912 to 1959. The current fifty-star flag has had the crown now for longest use since 2007.

There have been ideas for flags with more stars going on for decades now from 51 stars arranged not just in rows but in a circle or even a ring (for Puerto Rico's admission to the Union) to the 2021 proposal by Macy Gray, all of which have some interesting and creative ideas for what the next U.S. flag could look like. Hopefully, these ideas can somehow be implemented down the road. The ring idea is nice because it pays tribute to the Betsy Ross flag while also sporting an "eye" looking forward to what the future could offer.

Despite everything that the United States has had to deal with over the last quarter millenium, especially with issues plaguing not just the nation but also the whole world in recent times, I'm still proud to be an American. Here's to another 250 years and many more to the United States of America!
