Episode 38: Sylvex's finding Hershell
Back to the forest.
With the sun setting, casting long shadows over the forest floor, Maxtone took Sylvex to the exact spot where they had found Hershell's pup-tag.
The scent of burnt metal still lingered in the air, a sad reminder of what had transpired.
"Okay Maxtone... Leave me here, you back to the house... Let me do my job," Sylvex said, her eyes scanning the forest intently.
Maxtone nodded solemnly, climbed up his fighter jet and took off into the sky, leaving Sylvex alone with her thoughts.
The ninja puppy took a deep breath, her nose to the ground. Her instincts kicked in, and she began to sniff the area carefully, her sharp eyes noticing every little detail.
The scent of Hershell was faint.
Sylvex then pulled out a sword she placed on her back and then stuck it on the ground.
It was the Diamond Dragon sword, a long diamond blue sword with gold details, a gift from Queen Ayra Lunamoon. It had the power to enhance her senses and speed.
"Hopefully this will help me find him," she murmured to herself.
Sylvex then sat cross-legged and then sighed again as she started reading the spell.
"For all the light that shines brightly in the dark universe... The sun and the moon, also the stars... All that light shines brightly like a sparkling diamond... There's only one being who has that light... The most majestic creature in the whole world and universe... She is the great Diamond Dragon... Queen of the dragons of the whole universe... With this, I ask for help... Through your intermediaries, lent the vision of the dragon's eyes to me," Sylvex chanted in an ancient language, her eyes closed tightly as she focused her energy.
The sword started to glow, emitting a soft light that grew brighter with every word she uttered.
The forest around her grew quieter, almost as if it was holding its breath in anticipation. A gentle breeze picked up, carrying whispers that seemed to be from an ancient time.
When Sylvex opened her eyes, her vision to the world had changed.
She could see the greens of the forest were now tinged with shimmering hues, and she could see the tracks of every creature that had passed by, as if they were painted in neon colors.
With the vision of the dragon's eyes, Sylvex's senses were heightened. She could see the faintest tracks, hear the whispers of the wind, and even sense the fear that had lingered from the day of the crash.
She picked the Diamond Dragon sword and placed it back on her back. The light from the sword had faded, but the magic remained.
With newfound energy, she followed the neon trail that was Hershell's scent, her nose to the ground. The scent grew stronger, and she could feel his fear.
It led her deeper into the forest, through thick underbrush and over small streams, her heart racing with every step.
"Hang on, little cousin... I'll find you," Sylvex murmured under her breath, her paws moving swiftly over the forest floor.
The trail grew fresher, and Sylvex could feel her heart racing faster. Her paws trembled with excitement and fear.
The fresh urine scent of fear was thick in the air, and she knew she was getting closer.
"I know that you always peed yourself when you're scared, Hershell," Sylvex thought with a hint of a smile "that's your signature move."
The trail grew fresher, leading her to a cave entrance hidden behind a waterfall. The water's gentle roar masked any sounds from within, but the scent was unmistakable.
With a silent nod to herself, Sylvex slipped into the darkness, her diamond-enhanced eyes piercing the gloom.
The cave was cold and damp, the scent of moss and earth strong in her nose. She could hear the faint echo of dripping water and the occasional scurry of small animals.
Her paws made no noise on the damp stone floor as she moved forward.
"Ruff... Turn on the pup-tag flashlights," Sylvex barked to her pup-tag, and immediately a soft light illuminated the cave walls.
The beam danced over the jagged rocks and the darkness retreated before her.
As she ventured deeper into the cave, the scent of Hershell grew stronger.
"I'm coming, little one," she whispered, her eyes searching every corner.
Then she saw it.
A tiny, trembling golden retriever puppy lying on the cold, damp floor, his fur matted and dirty. The puppy's eyes were closed, and his little body was eerily still.
"Hershell!" Sylvex exclaimed, rushing to the unconscious pup's side.
She nudged him gently, her eyes widening when she felt his scorching fur.
"Oh no... You're feverish," Sylvex whined as she placed a gentle paw on Hershell's forehead "you dehydrated."
His fur was so hot it was almost burning to the touch, and she could see the dryness around his muzzle.
"Sylvex to The Pups Gang... Sylvex to The Pups Gang... I've found Hershell," Sylvex's voice was shaky as she whispered into her pup-tag.
"Stay at your place, Sylvex and wait for us... Where's your location?" Anna's voice crackled through the pup-tag, urgent and full of concern.
"Tracked my pup-tag... I'll turn on the signal," Sylvex said, her voice tight with concern as she tapped her pup-tag to transmit her location.
Sylvex then licked Hershell's dry lips gently, trying to soothe him. His whimper was weak but it was enough to tell that he was alive.
"Don't worry, little cousin," Sylvex whispered, her own voice a soothing balm to Hershell's frail form "we're going to get you out of here."
The cave was a prison of shadows and echoes, but Sylvex's eyes, now gleaming with the light of the Diamond Dragon, pierced through the gloom.
She knew she had to act fast. Hershell's life was hanging by a thread, and she was his only hope.
With gentle nudges and soothing whines, she tried to rouse him, but his body remained lifeless.
"You have to stay alive, Hershell... Your cousin is here," Sylvex whispered, her voice a mix of fear and determination.
She knew she had to act fast. The cave's damp air clung to her fur, but it was nothing compared to the burning heat emanating from the golden retriever pup beside her. His breaths were shallow, and his body quivered with fever.
"Maxtone... Where are you... Why you are so long," Sylvex whispered into the quiet of the cave, her eyes flicking to the entrance where the waterfall's soothing sounds echoed.
Her thoughts were interrupted by a faint buzz from her pup-tag.
"Sylvex, we're on our way," Anna's voice was a beacon of hope in the dark cave "I'm on Maxtone's jet... Hold on, we'll be there soon."
"Good," Sylvex said to herself, her paws gently caressing Hershell's fur, trying to soothe him.
She took another deep breath and focused her thoughts, "with the power of the Diamond Dragon, I shall not fail you, little one."
With the urgency of the situation pressing down on her, Sylvex used her ninja training to gather some leaves and twigs from around the cave.
She knew that the leaves would be wet from the spray of the waterfall and could help to cool Hershell down. Carefully, she placed the leaves on his fur, creating a makeshift blanket to combat the fever that had taken hold of him.
The coolness of the leaves brought a slight tremble to Hershell's body, but he remained unconscious.
As the minutes ticked by, Sylvex could hear the distant sound of the jet approaching. Her heart raced faster than the water droplets racing down the cave walls.
She knew they had to hurry; time was not on their side. The fever could cause irreparable damage to Hershell's fragile body.
Maxtone's jet suddenly appeared through the veil of waterfalls, its engines thundering in the enclosed space.
The force of its landing sent a gust of wind through the cave, carrying with it a whisper of hope. Anna jumped out of the jet, her eyes searching the cave until they found Sylvex and Hershell.
"Hang on, Hershell," Anna called out, her voice echoing off the cavern walls.
The golden retriever pup didn't move, his body a picture of exhaustion. Anna's eyes grew wide with worry as she sprinted over, her medical kit in tow.
Maxtone hovered over the scene, his heart pounding in his chest.
"What can we do?" he asked, his voice tight with anxiety.
"Bring him back to our home and let's start the treatment," Anna barked, her voice laced with urgency.
Sylvex nodded, gently picking up the limp form of Hershell with her jaws, careful not to cause him any more pain.
