The Oddish God
BySokz
Life was not easy for an oddish. The little guys had it tough in a world where most pokemon were bigger than them, and almost everything could push them around. Pead was no exception. The tiny grass-type pokemon was constantly belittled by all the other pokemon who lived in the forest. The Beedrill would swoop down from the trees and threaten him with their stingers, the Pikachu would sneak into his den and steal all his food while he was out, and the Kangaskhan would kick him around like he was a ball. Once, a Snorlax had even grabbed him, mistaking him for a berry. If it wasn't for a little luck and a fast acting stun-spore, he would have been pokemon chow by now.
Pead was annoyed by all the worries of the forest, but he never let it bring him down. After all, he was an oddish, full of sunshine and smiles. He walked around the forest on oversized blobby feet, a smile always on his face and a bounce in his step. When he found an area where the sun managed to penetrate the forest canopy, he loved to plop down and bask in its warmth. On rainy days he hopped around mud puddles, and when spring came he loved nothing more than to run through the flowers.
It was on one his afternoon jaunts around the forest when he found his treasure. It was just lying in the path, discarded like one of the candy wrappers the local trainers so thoughtlessly tossed on the ground, except this was far more interesting. A red stone formed the centerpiece of a necklace of pearls, each one sparkling and shiny.
Pead looked around, but there was no one who might have dropped it. Not wanting something so beautiful to go to waste, he sauntered over to the necklace and used the leaves on top of his head to throw it into the air. It came down on top of him, sliding into a snug position around the top of his head.
Pead smiled, knowing that he looked beautiful. With a radiant grin on his rounded face, the little oddish continued through the forest. Nothing bothered him, and none of his usual annoyances presented themselves. By the time he reached his favorite clearing, his mood was warm and blissful.
The glade was a secret hideaway in the center of the woods, one which none of the trainers, and most of the other pokemon, didn't know about. Wildflowers bloomed across the sunny space with a few rocks in the center that were always nice and warm from the sun. Pead strode into this glade, found an area he liked, then dug himself into the ground. Sunlight illuminated his leaves and the sparkling gem on his head as he settled down for a little nap.
He awoke to find things changed. As his eyes batted open, he discovered that his secluded grove had shrunken considerably in size. The trees only came up to his eyeline, the stones were more like pedals, and the entire area was barely even large enough to fit him.
The oddish looked quizzically at his surroundings. What had happened? Why was everything so different, and so much smaller than he remembered? As he wondered about these odd happenings, a minuscule Rattata scampered into the glade. It hopped around the rocks for a moment before digging up a plant to feast on the roots.
Seeing the tiny pokemon finally made it click. Pead's eye shot open in wonder as the revelation struck him. The forest hadn't shrunken, he had just grown larger! And a lot larger at that.
It must have been the stone he found. He could feel it atop his head, warm energy pooling in its form. Somehow, it reacted to the sunlight and turned him into a giant. Ideas flooded into Pead's mind and his imagination went wild with the possibilities of his newfound size. Now, no one could boss him around, and he was big enough to do whatever he wanted and play whatever games happened to pop into his cute head.
Pead shifted his weight, causing a miniature earthquake that alerted the Rattata to his presence. The rodent looked up at him with horror, only then realizing that the titanic oddish was alive and more than just an inanimate part of the landscape. It scurried off into the underbrush as Pead pulled one massive foot from the ground in a spray of dirt and rocks. His second foot followed, then he popped his body out of the hole much as he would have done after any other nap. Only this time, the impact came with a jarring earthquake that shook the trees and caused an entire flock of piggies to take flight.
With a funny grin, Pead swung his foot forward. The blobby front of it collided with the trees closest to him and sent them toppling, their wooden trunks snapping and their roots pulled out of the ground. He continued the step, slamming his foot onto the collection of foliage and crushing it all into a woody, muddy paste.
Hundreds of pokemon ran from the sight, scurrying out of his way. It made Pead so happy to see them all hurrying to clear his path after he had been forced to do the same so many times before. Normally he was the one to frantically scurry out of the way of an oncoming Taurus or Stantler. Now, they ran from him.
He continued to saunter through the forest, each one of his steps a massive impact that destroyed trees, bushes, dens, nests, and whatever else was unfortunate enough to fall under the massive form of his foot. The crunches and snaps were exquisite, as was the cacophony of pokemon calls that rang out with every slam of his body.
It wasn't just his feet. As he went, his rounded form smashed into the trees and did just as much damage as his steps. Anything that came in contact with him was violently thrown outwards, his size and girth far more powerful than anything else in this forest.
After a few steps, he came to a portion of the woods that was a little less dense. He recognized it as one of the routes the local trainers liked to pass through when they were hunting for new bug pokemon. A couple of humans were below him, staring up at his body with a mixed expression of fear and amazement.
Pead just lifted his foot over their heads. Most of the trainers sprinted away, but one made the fateful decision to throw a Pokeball. It struck the underside of Pead's foot, bounced off, opened, shot out its red ray, and then simply fell to the ground. A pokeball couldn't hold him anymore.
The oddish's foot crashed down on the clearing, reducing the tall grass to nothing more than a deep footprint. He giggled at the feeling of twigs and trees crunching under his weight. Pead leaned forward a little, flatting his foot deeper into the grass, smooshing anything that happened to be under it. It was fun being this big.
A splatter on his side caught his attention. One of the other trainers was standing at the edge of the clearing with his finger dramatically pointed at Pead. A minuscule Wurmple stood in front of him. The Wurmple's bottom shook as it launched another string shot, doing painfully little to the giant oddish.
Pead grinned. If they wanted a battle, then he was more than happy to play with them.
He started out simply, shaking his body and launching a blanket of yellow spores into the air.
They settled around the trainer and his Wurmple, stunning them as soon as they made contact. With nothing to stop him, Pead casually walked over to the pair, lowered himself towards the ground, opened his mouth, then let his tongue lick them both up. They fit nicely into his mouth before he ended the battle with a swallow.
Funny, he didn't realize Oddishs could learn gulp.
For the next hour, Pead continued to hop around the forest, stomping and smashing to his heart's content. Nothing could threaten him, and all the Beedrill in the world wouldn't be able to pierce his thick skin. He just continued to skip along, toppling trees and crushing huge swathes of the woods with every stomp.
And he grew bigger the entire time. The sun was still shining on his favorite gemstone and adding to his strength. By the time an hour had passed, he was nearly double in size again, the trees barely even as tall as a single one of his oversized feet. Though it was fun stomping around his home, it was so pockmarked and cratered by his playtime that he was growing bored. He needed something new to stomp on, something a bit more interesting.
That's when his eyes saw the sparkle of one of the human settlements just on the other side of the hill. For his entire life, Pead had been hesitant to ever leave his forest, doubly so to go anywhere near those humans, but now he had no such trepidations. After all, he had already shown his complete dominance over the local trainers.
Three steps took him to the hill that overlooked the small town, and three more took him into the human's development. He didn't even realize the modest sized home he had crushed until the sparking debris crunched under his foot.
The sensation was different from the trees he had smooshed before. They were hard, tough, and bent under his weight before finally snapping. In comparison, the house was a complete tapestry of different feelings. Some things crunched, other things squashed, the glass shattered with a delightful sound, and the electronics hummed and buzzed. This was way more fun than destroying nature!
He hopped to another house, then another, then another. As he went, his body crashed into the buildings around his targets, the mere presence of his girth enough to shake them to their foundations and crumble their walls. People were shouting and driving away in their cars.
At least they were until Pead accidentally stomped on the roads that lead out of town.
Just like before, he jumped and skipped around having as much fun as he possibly could until a burst of fire lit up his backside. It wasn't enough to hurt or cause a burn, but it drew his attention. Behind him, a trainer wearing a sharp blue coat, athletic cap, and fingerless gloves stood dramatically on the roof of one of the buildings. A Charizard floated in the air in front of him, flames dripping from his maw.
Pead's eyes flashed once again. A charizard, a real charizard! He had only ever seen little Charmanders running around, and even they were something to be feared for the tiny grass type that he had always been. Now though, even this gargantuan, once impossible to overcome threat seemed like nothing more than a little toy. And he was going to have fun.
The Charizard surged forward at the command of its trainer, its body wreathed in fire in what should have been a devastating attack for anything other than the world's largest oddish. Pead just smiled as he slapped one of his huge leaves into the rampaging dragon and smacked it hard into the ground. The earth trembled from the impact, the small orange lizard half buried in a crater.
A single strike and the battle was won, though Pead wasn't finished. Still wearing a smile, he kicked his foot forward and smashed the building to pieces. The trainer tumbled to the ground in the aftermath, the air choked with dirt and haze. When it cleared, Pead saw him near his Charizard, frantically fumbling with his other pokeballs in an attempt to send out another fighter. Pead didn't give him the chance.
The oddish simply took a step forward, burying the would-be savior under his hulking weight.
He continued to play around the town, stomping buildings, slurping up groups of people who tried to run, sitting on cars, and flattening anything that looked like it would make a good crunch. No matter how much he destroyed, he found it entertaining and fun. An entire lifetime's worth of wishing to be big finally burst to the surface now that he was given the freedom to live out his dream.
A few other trainers tried to stop him, but they had about as much success as the first two. Though they had stylish outfits and commanded pokemon that would have been high level for anyone else, Pead destroyed them all with his simplest of attacks, then crushed them into dust.
The hardest part was deciding how he wanted to end their battles. Should he munch that Blastoise or sit on it? Should he smother the Venusaur under his belly or simply stomp it? Once, he grabbed a Pikachu with one of his leaves and threw it so far that it turned into a glittering star in the sky. That was a fun one.
The more he played, the less opposition he faced. Most of the humans either abandoned the town or had been smooshed under his footsteps. All of the biggest and most fun houses had been smashed, and now there were only a handful of little ones that weren't nearly as fun to break. Plus, he had continued to grow bigger the entire time.
As he and the necklace expanded, the gem was able to absorb more and more sunlight.
Now, even the houses were barely big enough to reach the top of his blobby feets.
But there was always more he could smash. He remembered once when he was little overhearing a conversation between two trainers. One had said he was passing through town on his way to a great city on the other side of the mountains. Pead had never seen a city before, but if it was half as much fun as the town, he knew he would love it.
Huge steps shook the earth as he left the town in ruins, his gaze set on the far away mountains. It only took him a minute to reach them, and less time to clamber over their rocky surface. His body bounced into a few of the peaks and caused massive landslides as he went, but he didn't care. As soon as he reached the top, his focus was set on one thing only. The city that existed just beyond.
Castelia City was a radiant gemstone situated at the edge of a huge ocean of glittering blue water. Sprawling towers sprouted up like flowers from the dense metal and stone undergrowth, with lots of tiny figures moving around and scurrying like ants. Pead fell in love the moment he saw it.
He faintly heard a whistling next to him, but didn't pay much attention to it until an explosion burst on his right side. Just like the Charizard from before, it wasn't strong enough to do anything more than tickle. A bit annoyed, Pead turned towards the side and searched for the attacker, only to be surprised when he saw some sort of metal bird circling him. It wasn't a Skarmory. No, it looked more like a human invention.
Another group of planes came from the east and unloaded a barrage of missiles that struck his butt. Pead was always up for another battle, even if they weren't pokemon. He focused on his top and shot out a great cloud of stun spores. As the jets flew through the mist, their engines sparked and combusted, failing as soon as they sucked up the attack. One by one, they all tumbled into the mountains and exploded on contact.
Another battle won, and Pead's reward was the waiting city.
He skipped over the rest of the mountains, flattening some of the smaller peaks with his giant steps, then emerged into the great valley and plains that extended towards the metropolis. He barely even noticed the tight clusters of roads and buildings that served as the suburbs surrounding it, each one soon turned to a deep crater as he casually moved forward.
Along the edge of the city, the humans had built up a cluster of defenses. A few tanks, mobilizations of troops, and even a couple of helicopters fluttered around and tried to poke him with their turrets. By this point, Pead was too large to feel any of their bullets, and even the cannon fire from the tanks was little more than a tiny tickle.
The giant giggled as he hopped through their lines of defenses, each footfall a calamitous attack that sent men flying, destroyed millions of pokedollars worth of equipment, and ruined what should have been an unstoppable mobilization. Within only a few hops, the quickly amassed army was destroyed.
Pead paused when he came to the river that separated him from the brilliant forest of glass and steel. The sunlight reflected off of the buildings in a dazzling display of light. For a little while, he enjoyed turning his head side to side as his own reflection morphed and changed in the skyscraper's facades.
Then he continued with his playtime.
His next step took him into the river. Though it was considerably wide and deep enough for even the largest cargo ships to pass without trouble, it barely even covered his feet, and that was before the immense wave caused by his step.
Below him, a tsunami nearly fifty feet tall swelled outwards, crashed into the edges of the city, and flooded into the streets. A faint scream of people trapped in the rushing waters was drowned out almost as soon as it began. Pead didn't pay much attention to it. After all, to him the water was barely anything more than a puddle.
The first building in front of him was low, squat, and only about as tall as the top of his head. The perfect match to test his strength! Pead braced himself, then charged forward with a smile. His belly slammed into the building's frame first, buckling the steel and cracking the windows. It held for only a moment before it crumbled under the immense pressure of the oddish.
Floors collapsed, walls imploded, windows shattered, and office supplies were violently thrown outward as the building buckled under its own weight. With barely a charge, it had all been destroyed by Pead's pure power. The oddish hopped onto the field of debris, feeling the concrete crunch under his feet.
One down, and the entire city to go.
Paed had fun stomping through the landscape. First he broke the smaller skyscrapers that populated the outer edges of the city, toppling them either with a single kick, a quick charge, or by jumping on top of them and flattening them under his butt. From there he moved inward, waddling through wide streets and stomping on top of any of the cars caught in traffic.
As he went, his wide frame bashed into the buildings on either side of him, causing even more destruction that he didn't even intend to cause. That was just the nature of being so huge and powerful in a world designed for the small and weak.
When he reached the other side of the city, he found a long bridge completely swamped with cars, trucks, and buses, all in a desperate rush to escape. But Pead didn't really care about the almost microscopic people trapped in their vehicles, he just thought it would be fun to break the bridge.
A simple step onto the bridge's center was enough to crumble the supports, snap the cables, and bring the entire structure down. It collapsed into a pile of metal and concrete that blocked the river and caused even more water to flood into the city.
Pead continued to play, stomping through downtown and crushing everything under his massive oddish feet. The longer he played, the bigger he grew. Soon he towered over the buildings that stood on the outside of the city, then he grew large enough to rival even the biggest skyscrapers. At that point, the simple act of kicking his feet as he walked through the city was enough to crumble buildings on either side of him.
The humans sent out a few more waves of defense, but none of them mattered. The jets were caught in the air currents generated by his massive movements and crashed. The tanks and mobile artillery were smashed as soon as he lifted his feet over them. Their strongest bombs amounted to no more than a quick sizzle on his backside and a puff of smoke. Pead was starting to think he was completely invincible when a force gripped his entire body.
It felt strange. It was almost like a force was pushing on him from the bottom, somehow lifting his entire mass skyward. The oddish blinked in surprise as his feet came off of the ground, his entire body surrounded by a faint purple glow. What was going on?
Then he saw it. In front of him was a very tiny creature no bigger than an average human, wearing a metal suit of armor over its white and purple body. A thick tail flicked behind it as it strained under the immense task of simply lifting the oddish.
A Mewtwo! Pead had never seen one in real life, but he had heard some of the local trainers talking about it. Apparently, this was one of the strongest pokemon in the entire world.
Well, if it wanted a battle, Pead was happy to play along.
As the Mewtwo used up every ounce of its strength to lift Pead a few feet off of the ground, the giant oddish simply swatted one of its leaves. The foliage slammed into the Mewtwo with a devastating impact, sending him hurtling into the ground where he crashed into a crater. With his concentration broken, Pead dropped down to the Earth in an immense impact that crumbled nearby buildings and sent a puff of smoke rolling through the streets. When it cleared, the Mewtwo still hadn't moved.
But it couldn't have been defeated with a single swat of his leaves, right? After all, this was the strongest Pokemon in the world! It had to be faking. Pead grinned as he lowered one of his leaves to the ground and scooped up the Mewtwo. It didn't move as he lifted it into the air, tossed it up, took aim, then kicked as it plummeted downward.
There was a thud as it was launched skyward once again. Pead was overjoyed and ran to where the mewtwo was falling. Again, he kicked the tiny pokemon right as it was coming down, sending it upwards instead.
He continued his little game, constantly kicking the Mewtwo right as it was about to slam into the ground. Each impact was tremendous, and the act of running after his little toy caused even more destruction to the city. Pead barely even noticed when he ran right through a building or accidentally toppled one with his wrecking ball sized feet.
When he was finally satisfied with the ``battle,'' he ran under the Mewtwo, tilted his head back, then caught the legendary pokemon on his tongue. It ended with a single gulp.
The battle was short, and pretty far from a challenge, but Pead was still satisfied. After all, how many other pokemon could say they battled with a legendary like Mewtwo, let alone won? And he was still just an oddish!
With his pride boosted from the lopsided fight, Pead hopped around the city and jumped for joy. Over the next few minutes, the entire landscape was reduced to dirt under his legendary feet.
Once everything within the city's limits had been ground into dust, he set his sights on the surrounding countryside. It was less satisfying stomping over grasslands, through fields, and over mountains that barely even stood as tall as he was, but it still had a charm that he would never grow bored of.
At one point he plopped his butt down at the base of one of the larger mountain ranges, flattening a small cluster of villages and farms in the process. It had already been hours since he grew huge, and all that running and jumping can take it out of a little oddish. A nap was just what he needed.
With hundreds buried under his body, Pead closed his eyes and dozed in the sun.
He awoke to a bright light and a tickle of pebbles rolling down his face. With a bit of a grumble, Pead opened his eyes and came out of his nap. Twilight had come to this part of the world and turned the sky into a mix of pinks, oranges, and purples. Clouds had condensed directly above him in a swirling spiral with a cluster of burning rocks raining down onto him. It would have been a devastating barrage to any normal sized pokemon, but Pead had reached new levels of giganticness during his nap. The mountains that once equaled his size weren't even big enough to tickle his butt. He could see the curve of the horizon, and the clouds were no longer so far away.
Then he saw it. A glowing pokemon swam through the sky shrouded in lightning and enveloped in a golden aura of radiance. He knew this pokemon too, Rayquaza! Just as legendary as the Mewtwo but with even more ancient power. Legends say that it had the strength to bring an apocalypse down on the world, though this rain of meteors seemed far off from such a claim. They barely tickled.
Pead watched the legendary dragon fly in front of him as the meteors continued to rain down. What should he do? Did he try another gulp attack? No, that one was a little too powerful for these battles. It ended too quickly when he did that. What about another swipe of his leaves?
No, that one was also really powerful.
His stun spore! That was always a neat trick to try. Plus it might not be super effective since the Rayquaza was shrouded in electricity. With his mind made up and his excitement at its peak, Pead concentrated on the power within his body and performed the attack. With a smile, he launched a wave of spores into the sky. They ripped into the upper atmosphere like an erupting super volcano and tore the clouds above him to pieces. The detonation of yellow fluff flooded over the landscape. The shockwave alone was enough to uproot forests, destroy houses, and turn entire landscapes into nothing more than dirt. When the spores landed, everything was arrested and paralyzed, the world unable to move.
Pead looked around in shock. He hadn't expected a little status changing move to cause so much destruction. It took him a while to find the Rayquaza, but eventually he discovered it lying motionless in a pit on the ground, its body completely frozen and overcome by his stun spore.
Another battle ended in a single attack. All Pead needed to do was finish the fight in a single epic strike. He took aim at the once imposing dragon, shook off some of the dirt from his behind, braced himself, then launched his continent sized body into the air. A sonic boom erupted as he propelled himself skyward at speeds that rivaled that of a rocket. When he was thousands of feet in the air, high enough to look over the curved edge of the world, gravity finally began his descent. Pead brought up his feet and prepared for impact.
The raw force of Pead's butt smashing into the Earth was a true catastrophe for the planet. The mountains that he had leaned against during his nap were ripped apart like they were no more than small mounds of sand in a hurricane. Millions of tons of molten rock were violently ejected from below him as the ground turned to a liquid under unimaginable pressure and energy. The bedrock itself turned to magma and flowed outward like a tsunami of liquid fire over a mile tall.
Nothing was left standing after the impact. There were no trees around Pead, no houses, no villages, no cities, no jets to shoot their missiles, no boats to launch a barrage of cannon fire, no legendaries with all their mythical might. In a single act of smashing his butt into the ground, everything on the continent was obliterated.
And Pead loved it. As he stood from the crater of burning rock he had created, he looked out onto a changed landscape. Lava made up most of the area immediately around him, with huge chunks of the continent jutting out randomly, taller than any mountain that had existed before. He had surpassed the level of legendary pokemon and entered a new realm of power. Now, the very Earth itself was at his mercy as he innocently played around and altered the very geography with his steps.
Pead just smiled. This was all he ever wanted. The size and strength to make sure no other pokemon could push him around, and the freedom to play whatever games he wanted without anyone being able to stop him. Now, truly, the world belonged to Pead.
With his face bright and his smile wide, Pead skipped forward across the Earth's surface. Each step was an earthquake beyond measure that sent waves of lava erupting in every direction. Soon giant oddish footprints became the most recognizable feature of Earth's landscape.
There were more attempts to stop him, but Pead had reached a level beyond human or pokemon, comprehension. The armies of the world sent everything to stop him, but he barely even noticed their attacks as he hopped around and crushed their cities underfoot. Legendary pokemon tried to battle him but they were no more of a nuisance than little bugs.
Groudon sent waves of lava but was buried below an ocean of fire when Pead stepped on him by accident. Lugia and Kyogre teamed up to save their ocean, but the oddish kicked them both so hard that they were sent into orbit. Giratina managed to escape the devastation by traveling into its other world, while Dialga and Palkia were obliterated by another footfall. The fabric of space and time couldn't even compete with Pead anymore.
The Regis could do nothing, Reshiram and Zekrom were beaten before Pead even realized they were there, and even the powers of Eternatus and the Hero Duo were proven inferior. No pokemon in the world, no matter how legendary or how mythical, could compare to this one adorable oddish.
By the time Pead was satisfied with his playtime, the sun shone down on a world that had been molded and shaped to his liking, all flattened under his cute, godly feet. Nothing could ever threaten him again, and his playtime would be eternal.
As he settled down for another nap after an entire day of playing, Pead could only wonder what games he would play tomorrow.
