Similarly to the one before and the one after this, I was gonna post this yesterday but wanted to do a few more drawings... but I was demotivated and decided to sleep instead. And today I thought of posting it after making a few more drawings, but decided it's best to just send the three.
Also like the one before this, I wasn't sure if I should share due to lower quality... I guess... It wasn't MSPaint, though, since because of wanting to draw a subject I thought MSPaint would be limiting, so I used SAI for this one. I mean, it is less than 30 minutes, but I still feel like I should have done more for it, but I was afraid it would make it take forever.
Hey at least it's some practice for lineless binary painting, am I right?
Obligatory disclaimer that this is not the same city as from the previous drawing, they're completely unrelated as per usual in my work. I really need to start establishing some repeating settings, but I'm still not there yet.
The idea here started with something very basic, just a non-humanoid alien, just to see how it looks in a simpler style... then while doing the head I thought it was boring as frick and I should enhance it somehow, so I mixed in ANOTHER idea that I didn't do, about holding some medal or something. I didn't wanna put the detail from the medal idea, so I turned it into some token that our little friend here is presenting to that security booth to be allowed to go wherever they're going.
Kinda Papers Please but not paper? I mean, not as strict but that's the vibe I was going for.
Same with the architecture too, kinda brutalist, kinda ornate, kinda messy with the wires. Definitely technological, but still somewhat old-fashioned? And yes, the fact that it's a medal-like thing hopefully makes this very different from a more paper-based society that we'd be more used to (though I guess nowadays it's smartphone-based, which would actually be more advanced than the society in this drawing, technologically speaking).
I was worry it'd look like money, so to clarify, the alien is not paying, the token will be returned to them after.
Clothing wise I didn't even know what I was going for, I just let the juices flow. I'm gonna say that it might look feminine but I didn't intend on that, so we have no clue what this alien actually is. For all we know this might be the masculine-coded way of dressing in this culture, if there even is a gender distinction in this culture or even a sex distinction in this species. So I'm keeping it "ambiguous gender".
Next drawing goes back to lewds, but I wonder if I should do this more often.
I'm not exactly as happy with this one as with the previous one. The cityscape one was a lot better cost-benefit in terms of effort and time. This one is arguably more detailed or arguably of higher effort, and yet somehow it feels worse, probably uncanny valley in terms of simplicity/complexity. Maybe I should have pushed it more and allowed it to extend to 1 hour but oh well.
I thought about going for a second pass before posting but my work ethics are so bad that it would risk me not posting and not doing other drawings so I need to just send it and move on.
