Tenbrae the Zubat was born into the rhythm of the city—not its daylight chaos, but its quieter, stranger half. While most of the world rushes under the sun, she’s tucked away in the high, shadowed places most people never think to look: the undersides of bridges, the rafters of abandoned buildings, the hollow pockets between concrete and steel. That’s where she sleeps, wrapped in stillness, letting the daytime noise blur into something distant and unimportant.

But when night falls, Tenbrae wakes into her element.

Footsteps are more distinct, voices carry farther, and the constant pressure of movement loosens just enough for her to breathe. Where others see empty streets or dim-lit corners, Tenbrae experiences a detailed, shifting landscape of echoes—every alley, every fire escape, every open window mapped in her mind with perfect clarity.

She moves through it with ease, gliding between buildings and drifting through spaces like she belongs there—because she does. Nightlife doesn’t overwhelm her the way daytime does. Instead, she’s drawn to it: the hum of late-night crowds, the pulse of distant music, the way conversations spill out onto sidewalks. She won’t always join in, but she lingers nearby, listening, observing, piecing together stories from fragments of sound.

Tenbrae has learned how to exist alongside people without needing to be fully part of their world. She knows which streets are safer, which voices to avoid, which rhythms signal trouble before it starts. It’s made her quietly streetwise, not through confrontation, but awareness. She doesn’t interfere often—but she’s there, a silent presence above or just out of sight, catching things others don’t.

There’s a certain peace she finds in the night. It’s not empty—it’s honest. Less rushed, less forced. The city feels more like itself when it’s not trying so hard. And in that version of it, Tenbrae feels more like herself too.
