By extending the wings, the craft gets enough lift to rise higher from the ground enough to clear larger obstacles, but it has limited power and is not powerful enough to do that while pulling extra containers. As such, those extra containers are not made flight worthy as a standard. Folding up the wings makes for a smaller cross-section for urban manoeuvring.
