Kenji stood in the heart of the burning forest, embers drifting around him like falling stars. His blindfold fluttered in the heat, but he didn’t need sight, every heartbeat, every hostile breath in the trees pulsed through his senses like ripples on water.
His foes closed in, shadows slipping between the flames. Steel hissed. Branches cracked. The circle tightened.
Kenji exhaled once, slow and steady, and the air around him bent.
A pulse of pink energy flickered in his palm, small at first, like a spark caught between his fingers. Then it grew, swelling with each breath, each memory, each reason he refused to fall here. The ground trembled as the orb brightened, crackling with arcs of raw power that danced up his arm and lit the forest in neon light.
The first enemy lunged.
Kenji stepped forward, twisting his body with the grace of a dancer and the precision of a warrior. The orb flared,then erupted.
A shockwave tore through the clearing, a roaring bloom of pink light that split the flames and hurled his attackers backward. Trees bent. Ash spiraled upward. The ground itself seemed to recoil from the force.
When the light faded, Kenji stood alone in the settling dust, energy still humming around his fingertips like the echo of a heartbeat.
He lifted his head toward the remaining silhouettes in the smoke.
“Come on,” he murmured, voice low and steady. “I’m not done yet.”
