The afternoon sun poured through the tall windows, turning the tiled floor into a patchwork of gold. Kenji's tail swishing lazily, lounged in the pool, cool water lapping at his fur as he stretched out in his green swim trunks. He looked perfectly content, half‑soaked and half‑melting into the moment.
Milo, meanwhile, was pure energy. The little dragon’s wings shimmered with every excited flutter, droplets scattering like tiny gems. He splashed around in his pink trunks, pointing toward something only he seemed to see.
“Kenji, look! Look!” Milo chirped.
Kenji cracked one eye open. “Milo… it’s literally a rubber duck.”
“No, no, not the duck, the reflection! It looks like it has a crown. That means it’s the king of the pool!”
Kenji snorted, a soft laugh bubbling out of him. “Alright, alright. Long live the king.”
Milo puffed out his chest, wings spreading proudly. “As royal advisor, I decree… splash battle!”
Before Kenji could protest, Milo sent a wave of water straight at him. Kenji yelped, then grinned, scooping up a counter‑splash with both hands. Water flew everywhere, over the pool, across the tiles, even onto the glass doors.
Soon they were both laughing so hard they could barely breathe. Milo’s wings flapped wildly, Kenji’s tail thumped against the water, and the whole room echoed with the sound of two friends who had absolutely no intention of growing up today.
When they finally collapsed back into the water, breathless and soaked, Milo nudged Kenji’s arm.
“Hey… this was a good idea.”
Kenji smiled, eyes soft. “Yeah. Perfect, actually.”
And for a moment, the world was just warm sunlight, cool water, and the kind of friendship that makes even a tiny pool feel like an entire summer.
