The wind always felt different at high places, thin, cool, and honest. Kenji crouched at the cliff’s edge, the stone still warm beneath his paws from the sun that had slipped behind the mountains. His pink hoodie fluttered in the breeze, the soft fabric brushing against the fur of his arms as if reminding him he was still here, still anchored, even while the world dropped away beneath him.

Below, clouds pooled in the valleys like slow‑moving rivers, swallowing the lower cliffs in a white, shifting sea. The rope bridge stretched across the gap behind him, swaying gently, creaking with each breath of wind. He’d crossed it moments earlier, heart pounding, tail stiff with nerves, but he’d done it. And now he stood on the far side, alone with the view and the quiet thrum of his own thoughts.

Kenji leaned forward slightly, ears perked, eyes tracing the endless horizon. From this height, the world felt huge in a way that didn’t scare him, it humbled him. The mountains weren’t judging him, weren’t asking anything of him. They simply existed, ancient and patient, waiting for him to breathe.

His tail flicked once behind him, a small gesture of focus. He wasn’t running from anything today. He wasn’t chasing anything either. He was just… looking. Taking in the world from a place he never thought he’d reach. The hoodie he wore, bright, soft, almost playful felt like a strange contrast to the rugged cliffs, but that was Kenji in a way: gentle heart, wild world.

He inhaled deeply, letting the cold air fill his chest. For a moment, he imagined the wind lifting him, carrying him forward, showing him what lay beyond the next ridge. But he stayed grounded, claws lightly gripping the stone, steady and sure.

“Maybe I’m stronger than I thought,” he murmured to himself, though the mountains didn’t need to hear it. They already knew.

And as the last light of day painted the sky in soft golds and purples, Kenji stayed there, quiet, thoughtful, and brave in his own way, looking out over the edge not with fear, but with a growing sense of possibility.
