"Drowned and confused"
While he'd trusted his 24 minute breath hold to let him get to the temple's deepest point, grab the treasure, and get back out, the lizard hadn't anticipated that not only would the entrance shut behind him, there'd be some tough puzzles he'd have to solve. Not being clever enough to get it all done in time, what he hoped would be the last puzzle finally wasted too much time, and his body forced him to try to breathe the water around him. Obviously, it didn't work, and the lizard frantically swam through the temple, hoping it'd be over soon...
After a minute, he'd calmed, but not from getting air; he was too weak to panic any more, and he couldn't even swim due to the extra weight of the water in his lungs. Stumbling forward, he came across one more of what seemed to be a puzzle, with colored balls and holders on a stone block in front of him. Past it, there was a gate that had a little vent in the floor making bubbles behind it. He sure could go for some of those bubbles... But, he couldn't tell what to do. His mind had been so dulled by oxygen deprivation that the puzzle may as well have been asking him to do rocket science. He picked up the red ball as his tongue limply hung from his mouth, and he looked back and forth between the ball and the holders. There HAD to be some connection, some way to tell what holder to put it in, but... What could it possibly be?
