After the Massacre of Wotoko and the near extinction of the Zoroark within the Deep Zone, the Krai clan were among the few who survived. Scattered, wounded, and stripped of nearly everything that defined them, they were eventually taken in by Rite and the Waving Grass Tribe. To the Krai, this moment marked the end of one tragedy and the beginning of fragile recovery—an act of mercy that allowed them to endure when so many others did not.

Life among the Waving Grass was quieter, safer. The Krai rebuilt what little they could, carrying their losses in silence and speaking of Wotoko only in fragments and half-remembered stories. Questions lingered, but few pressed them. The Deep Zone was dangerous, the past painful, and survival itself felt like answer enough. Whatever had happened there was over, buried beneath ash, time, and fear.

Rite, for her part, never encouraged speculation. When asked, she spoke carefully, offering only what was necessary—what could be known without reopening wounds. She listened more than she spoke, and when she did speak, her words always seemed to close discussions rather than invite them. To the Krai, she was simply a capable leader who had acted swiftly when it mattered.

Yet sometimes, when the subject of Wotoko surfaced, Rite’s gaze would linger just a heartbeat too long. A pause would slip into her speech, subtle enough to pass unnoticed by most. She never contradicted the common understanding of events—but neither did she confirm it outright.
