Mark's parents have been in a tough place with him for a while. Family counciling rarely made any progress because both Mark and Bart are too stubborn to recognize their own contributions to the deteriorating situation. Now, they don't have any more time to contemplate noninvasive options: Mark is trying to run away, is committing crimes, and has alienated himself entirely at school, thus isolating himself from any opportunity to create healthy relationships with people his own age. Bart and Marri consider their last options, and are going to go to a friend for help, who is involved at a special school outside town-- a reform school dedicated to young people with severe disorders that inhibit their social function.
