no.18: Slash - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Who do you say when someone asks you who your favorite ninja turtle is? I, as an educated person, say Slash! (Okay actually I tend to say Dnnie or Raph.) Continuing the evil twin trope from yesterday Slash might have actually been my first exposure to the trope if I'm being honest. It's kind of hard to tell. I know I was aware of them at about the same time, though Negaduck is far more on the nose 'evil twin'. I also never cared about Slash in the original cartoon as he was ugly and dumb, it wasn't until he had a decent looking toy and was better depicted in Archie comics that I cared about him.

Regardless of who came first, the turtle or the duck, I vastly prefer Slash over Negaduck. That's probably just because I like turtles more then ducks, but that doesn't mean I blindly accept any turtle. There have been quite a few other turtles thrown into the TMNT mix throughout the years; Tokka, Jennika, Venus de Milo...and they're all terrible. Sorry, but they are! They're all weird attempts to either remake something that already existed, unneeded love interests or he's not shameless OC inserts that fundamentally ruin the chemistry of the four brothers! To me there is only one fifth ninja turtle. He may not be the most prolific, he may not be the strongest, he sure isn't the brightest, be he's my Bizarro turtle of choice!
