In a universe where drowning can never lead to death, there's some interesting entertainment possibilities for those who aren't afraid to breathe some water. Some fairs have aquaphilia-themed twists on the games of our world, particularly the dunk tank: It's common for the tanks to have lids that are locked for some time after whoever is there is dropped in. This one in particular has a range of options for it, spanning from not locking the tank at all to forcing the dunked person to drown.

The lizard up there has been dunked a few times so far, for every possible amount of time... But not drowned yet. People keep going for that tantalizing blue spot, but simply hit the colors around it instead, either not keeping him down very long or hitting the green part and just letting him surface again. Each hit to that green part, like the most recent attempt, gets his heart pounding at how close it was... Not from fear, though. By his expression, it's pretty clear what he's hoping someone will eventually hit.

An alarm goes off to let others know of your success, and the lizard's face lights up as he's dropped into the water. Shortly after he submerges, the tank's lid seals itself to trap him.

The lizard clearly isn't too concerned about escaping, but makes a few token attempts to make sure he can't. Satisfied, he happily begins waiting for his inevitable drowning.

squirtlerocks07 and I did an RP based on this.

S: in a universe where drowning isn't deadly, there was this cool little thing that most people have been doing, and thats taking on the dunk tank principal and mixing things up a bit, there was a lizard currently in the tank, having been dunked a few times, then an Vulpix comes in and sees this dunk tank, surprised at it
"What the heck is that???"

L: The lizard waves to the vulpix, waving. "Hey there! Think you've got what it takes to drop me down there?"

Next to the tank is a target with a bunch of different colors, and atop that a sign: "Green = No lock, red = 30s, yellow = 2m, purple = 5m, blue = Until drowned"

S: "Oooh, a dunk tank! Now that sounds like fun, lemme see here... I'm gonna try and aim for something..." the vulpix grabs a tennis ball before he tries to aim at something, he launches the ball and he hits the red area! Hes still wondering what's gonna happen next

L: At that, the lizard is dropped into the tank of water, before a lid closes over the top, locking him underwater. Next to the tank, a timer from 30 starts up.

S: "Whoa whoa whoa what the?!" the vulpix was clearly shocked at what he just saw, having not seen this kind of thing before
"A-are you ok?? Your locked in the tank now! For...30 seconds..." it seems he's concerned, he thought this was just some normal dunk tank

L: The lizard gives a thumbs up, hoping to make it clear to the vulpix that he's going to be just fine.

S: "A-are you sure you'll be ok? Jeez why do people like this kind of stuff? Ugh..."
its clear this vulpix wasnt like everyone else and he doesn't really like seeing other being trapped underwater

L: The lizard shrugs. "Soblme pebloplble jublst fiblnd iblt fubln. Anbld Ibl'm onble oblf thblem!"

S: "That does not look fun!"
thankfully the 30 seconds are done

L: When the timer ends, the lid opens up again, and the lizard surfaces, still calm as he hadn't been under any strain yet. "Well, to each their own, I guess."

S: "Well, I think ive seen enough, so um, good luck"
the vulpix walks off before a Lucario takes their place

Lucario - "Hmm, lets see if I can hit the center this time!"

L: "It'd be pretty cool if you could! Go ahead whenever you're ready! But I bet you're gonna miss though..." The lizard smirks as he does a little teasing.

S: "Miss? Ha! I never miss!" the lucario takes aim and tosses the ball at the center and he hits it directly on the blue one!

L: An alarm goes off to let others know of the lucario's success!

"Woah, nice!" The lizard gets the deepest breath he can as he's dropped into the water, the lid closing again. This time, the timer begins to count up instead of down.

S: "Ha! I got him! Looks like he's gonna be sleeping with the fishes!" The Lucario teased him a little bit
"I wonder how long he's gonna last..." he sits down in front of the tank to watch the show, while a few others around the area clapped for the lucario's achievement

L: The lizard sits down on the bottom of the tank, waiting for the inevitable. He does his best to keep his air in though, wanting this to take as long as possible.

S: the lucario keeps watching, a few others also watching too as about 7 minutes have already passed by

L: Over time, the lizard begins to slowly show some strain, pinching his nostrils shut to prevent losing bubbles. Still, his chest is heaving, and he's having trouble staying relaxed.

S: "Oooh, hey 7 minutes is impressive for a lizard" the lucario gets up and walks closer to the tank

"You know you don't have to suffer anymore, you could just...inhale water, its enviable after all, just do it...we wanna see!"

L: "Ble pabltieblnt, soblme pebloplble liblke wabltchbling thble stblrugblgle..." The lizard trades a little air to make it clear why he's still bothering to hold his breath.

S: "Oh come on! Just do it!"

another 7 minutes passes by, 14 in total now

L: By now, the lizard's covering his mouth with both hands, his face just going purple as bubbles continually stream away, just about at his limit...

S: "Finally! This is what ive been waiting for!"

a lot of others watch intensely, waiting for the lizard to finally inhale water

L: The bubbles trail off, the lizard's lungs going entirely empty for a few seconds... Before he can't hold back any more, audibly gasping down water and grabbing his neck as he starts to drown!

S: a lot of the pokemon cheer as it finally happens, knowing in this world, drowning is not deadly

it seems to continue on for a while, the lucario has never quite seen how it would be possible for drowning to not be deadly, but hes about to find out

L: Soon, the lizard calms, taking a few weak breaths of water before collapsing unconscious. As is the norm, his lack of oxygen stops progressing, leaving him perfectly safe.

Someone else that works at the place comes by and opens the tank, before climbing in and hauling out the drowned lizard, laying them down on the ground. After a few seconds, the lizard starts weakly coughing up water and gasping on his own, beginning to recover without any further help.

S: "Well, I guess he's actually fine now, hmm so how does this work? Is someone else gonna go in the tank? How's that decided?"

L: The attendant that got the lizard out nods. "As harmless as drowning is, most people get pretty bad headaches if they drown multiple times in a day, so when someone is drowned here we switch them out for someone else."

S: "Ohh I get ya now, but who are you gonna replace? Thats the real question"

L: "You'll just have to see once they get out here..." They walk off, presumably to go get the next person.

The lizard gets up, his breathing going back to normal, and waves goodbye before he goes as well.

S: the lucario was very curious as to whos gonna be next, hoping he'll be able to drown them too as he smirks to himself

L: It seems a charmeleon will be the next to get on the dunk tank, as they're led out by the attendant.

S: the charmeleon is clearly terrifed about being put in a dunk tank

Charmeleon - "H-hang on what a minute, I don't wanna be a part of this!!! I hate water!!! Please don't make do this!!"

Lucario - "Uh oh, we've got a scared one..."

L: Attendant: "You signed up to work here knowing this could happen, it was only a matter of time. But, I had a feeling this wouldn't be easy for you, being a fire type..."

S: Charmeleon - "I only signed up for the jokes! I didn't think I was actually gonna be in the dunk tank!!"

the Charmeleon was then ushered into the dunk tank regardless, he yelps in total fear and shock at the water below, shivering in fear as he gazes at the crowd with a pleading gaze

"Please, don't dunk me!!! Please I beg you!"

L: One of the people in the audience, a salandit, comes up with a grin. "I got this..." He throws a ball at the target... Missing anything that would dunk the charmeleon. "Oh, whoops. Anyone else want a shot?"

S: "Oh phew... thank goodness they missed... but please, don't dunk me! I can't even hold my breath that long! Or even at all!"

the charmeleon's gaze becomes cuter and more pleading to the crowd to not dunk him

a few of the pokemon did feel a little bad for the charmeleon, so about 3 of them walk away, the lucario stays tho, wondering what he should do, he's never tried dunking someone whos scared and almost always avoids it when it happens

L: The salandit still seems just fine about it. "No one else trying? Alright, I'll give it another..." He takes another shot at the target, this time hitting green and dropping the charmeleon into the water! Though the lid doesn't close this time.

S: "Ahhhhblblbl!!!!" the charmeleon immediately scrambles back up to the surface and sits back down on the platform
"Hah...hah...I said don't dunk me! Why doesnt anyone feel bad for me!?"

he starts to tear up and cry a bit, the charmeleon regrets putting himself on that list

Now seeing them cry, the lucario just couldnt bring himself to dunk the charmeleon, so he leaves too

L: The salandit hesitates as he sees the charmeleon crying... But he's clearly a pretty mean guy. "Man, no lock? Alright, third time's the charm..." He throws a third ball, and this time hits red, dropping the charmeleon to be locked under for 30 seconds.

S: "Noo!!!" the charmeleon didn't even get a breath in as he was dunked underwater again, but this time as he tried to come back out, he couldn't, making him panic even further!
"Leblt mble oublt!!!!!!!!" he covers his mouth, bursts of bubbles escaping him

the vulpix from eariler comes back to the dunk tank and is shocked to see a fellow fire type like him in the dunk tank, clearly scared as well, he's really upset about it, wondering who was responsible for dunking this poor charmeleon!

L: It's pretty obvious who it is, as the salandit laughs. "There we go! Too bad for you, I'm going for an even longer lock next time!"

S: Charmeleon - "Nblo!!! Nblo!!!"

thankfully the charmeleon survived the 30 seconds as he was let up and he gasps for air heavily, continuing to cry

Vulpix - gasps "No...it was that salandit! That meanie! I don't want to let that charmeleon suffer, I have to do something before they hit the blue area!"

the vulpix runs off to go tell a friend of his what's going on so they can get some revenge for the charmeleon, pretty much everyone else left except for the salandit at this point, because some people actually have a heart!

L: Their friend, a froakie, is wandering around nearby. "Hey, um... Is something happening? A lot of people have been leaving for some reason..."

S: "Your not gonna believe this, but a fire type, what looks like a charmeleon, is in the dunk tank right now getting tortured by a salandit! Everyone else left because they felt bad for the charmeleon, he was even crying! We have to do something about this, and fast!"

L: "Wait, seriously!? We HAVE to stop them! I saw the dunk tank earlier so I know where it is, let's go!" He starts rushing in the direction of the dunk tank.

S: the vulpix nods before rushing off as well, hoping the charmeleon will be ok and that the salandit has missed the last few times while they go deal with this

L: The salandit thankfully isn't doing too well in his attempts to hit the blue mark, mostly missing and occasionally hitting green. "Ugh, why's this stupid thing have to be so small..."

S: Charmeleon - "Somebody please help me!!! I can't take it anymore!"

Vulpix - "Oh, thank goodness the salandit keeps missing...so, how do we go about this buddy?"

L: Froakie: "I don't know, um... Hey!" He calls out to the salandit. "Quit it, can't you see they're terrified!?"

The salandit looks over. "Hey, they signed up to work here knowing they might go up there, not my problem."

S: Charmeleon - "I already told you, I did it for the jokes! I just didn't expect so many people to hit the blue area! I even put my name at the bottom of the list... and thats also mixed with peer pressure..."

Vulpix - "Ugh, thats the worst! But please, stop torturing the charmeleon! There's nobody else here but you! Somebody doesnt have a heart!"

L: Salandit: "If you've got a problem with it, leave, like most other people have." He looks back at the target and starts aiming again.

The froakie starts rushing over to them. "No, stop, you might actually get it this time!"

S: the vulpix rushes over to block their path

Vulpix - "Don't....you....dare!!!"

the charmeleon whimpers in fear, not wanting to get dunked again

L: The salandit focuses, looking past the vulpix, and throws yet another ball... Hitting the blue area of the target! Like before, an alarm goes off at the salandit's success. "Haha, got it!"

Froakie: "O-oh no!"

S: Vulpix - "No...no he hit the blue area!!! Not good..."

Charmeleon - "Nooooo!!!!!" the Charmeleon was then dropped into the water and is sealed down there with a timer counting up, the charmeleon was visibly crying, not wanting to drown

Vulpix - "Unbelievable!!!! Why would you do that?!" the vulpix rushes to the tank, trying to firgure out how to stop this

L: The salandit goes up to the tank to watch. "Did it because I want to see him drown, obviously!"

The froakie runs over to search for a way to release the charmeleon. "H-hang in there, we'll get you out!"

S: "There's gotta be like an emergency button to make the tank open up!" the vulpix looks all around the tank

the charmeleon whimpers loudly, his face already red not even a minute in with how terried he is, and definitely not wanting to drown

L: Froakie: "Yeah, there has to be, in case something goes wrong or something!" He keeps looking as well.

Salandit: "Man, come on, I earned this, just let me have it..."

S: "No!! I refuse!"

thankfully, the Vulpix and Froakie find an emergency button, as the charmeleon's face was turning more red, hes not even holding his breath really, its more instincts now

"There!"

L: The froakie quickly presses the emergency button, and the tank's lid opens!

Froakie: "Awesome, got it!"

Salandit: "Ugh, all that work and you just mess it all up..."

S: the charmeleon sees the lid open and bolts upwards and gets out of the tank as fast as possible, gasping heavily for air

Vulpix - "A-are you ok buddy?"

Charmeleon - "Hah...hah...I am now...thank you both for saving me!"

the vulpix growls at the salandit, getting ready to attack them if they don't run away now

L: The salandit looks at the group, then just sighs and starts walking off. "Whatever, I'll just come back later when you're gone..."

Froakie: "Crap, right, he's definitely going to try again with whoever's here next..."

S: Charmeleon - "Don't worry, he wont harm anyone else, there's nobody else thats on the list for today, i was the last one, he'll probably forget about it"

Vulpix - "Well, if you say so, I guess were safe for now then, we'll just have to hope no more scared ones are on that list tomorrow"

the charmeleon then runs off, going far away from the dunk tank

L: Froakie: "Man, we really lucked out... I hope that charmeleon isn't put on tomorrow's list, but I'm sure he's going to actually tell the people running this that he doesn't want to do that again."

S: "Yeah probably, lets just leave this behind..."

and so, the vulpix and froakie walk away from the dunk tank as it shuts down for the night, lets hope this type of thing doesnt happen again
