This is the summer of 1960, in the unincorporated community of Duran, New Mexico. Randy Fox and Ryan Lynx are burning some brush, along with a few boxes of trash the parents of both of them had discarded. As for violating any codes against burning cardboard, paper, plastic, etc, Randy and Ryan were not violating any burning codes back in those days. Back then, it was legal to burn any trash that could burn. Recycling programs were not a thing until about 1970, which would be 10 years later, and didn't gain much traction until about 1980...
...By the 1970s and 1980s, Randy Fox would be an assistant church pastor, and Ryan Lynx would be an officer putting in a 20 year career in the U.S. Air Force. They would each be married to a wife and raising cubs of their own by then.
Though still in the year 1960, Randy Fox and Ryan Lynx are a couple of half grown cubs. And on that summer day shown in the picture, they are having fun burning trash that their parents wanted them to burn. By the way, Randy Fox tossed an empty Reddi-Whip whip cream can into the burn barrel so he and Ryan Lynx can run back away from the barrel and watch the Reddi-Whip can explode. Randy and Ryan got a thrill out of that.
