Background/History
Ray is a nekomata, a cat yokai with two tails from the japanese folklore. He possesses the ability of manipulating fire and thunder, conjuring fire with his right hand and thunder with his left hand
Continuing from Raien's story
770 years have passed since Raien was sealed away and sent to another world. This another world in question is the World of Tellirian, a fantasy world composed by seven great nations, and one of these nations is the nation of Uta, where Raien's sealing stone resides. A group of priestesses discovered this stone and Raien inside it and decided to open this stone to study about the creature, but instead of the cat, a humanoid baby came out of it. Despite having human traits, the baby has cat ears instead of human ears, a cat nose and two tails, implying that Raien may have been purified during the sealing procress and incarnated into some kind of werecat. The name Ray (or Rei) is a simplified version of his original name, given by the priestesses themselves, who took care of him for so long and taught him to control his powers
Ray lives in a shrine in the middle of a forest, guarded by pristesses and maiden, whom he gets along very well with. He remembers almost nothing from his past, but he is aware of his cat form and its thirst for killing. When pissed off so much, he loses control of himself and this form of his shows up, threatening and scaring a lot, giving an allusion to the original nekomata from ancient times. That's why he avoids his scary side, he doesn't want to be seen as a monster to everyone
